Uh, wouldn't you be .125" from center on a .250 rod?

Edge of .250" rod in the spindle to the edge of the .250" rod in the turner .
.125 plus .125

A centering scope would be a good tool for this task as well. I do not have one but it's on my list.

They have come down alot in price from what they used to be. Last used one around 1996 or so.

DZ has a really good page on his website about cameras. A good camera helps with a lot more than finding centerline of a cue. It helps getting in getting inlays centered between points.
