Instant Replay is it good for Live Streaming

Is the relevance of Instant Replay good for live streaming over the internet? We here at OTBnTV have tried to hone our skills with the instant replay module we use during live streaming. We have used it this year at all of our live streaming events. The problem as I see it is that it is only a 30 second window. I have talked to the software people that we use to extend it. I would like to see it at least 1 hour but would settle for 10 minutes.
Here is my thinking on that. If a player or referee calls a foul and they agree to come to the booth to view the instant replay, we can use 2 different cameras to utilize the replay. You need more than 30 seconds. At this point it is a novelty for the viewer to watch and not a useful tool to settle a bad hit or foul. One of the problems is that the module does not record separately from the main recording on ustream. I guess we could stop the record and go back and look but that would interfer with the viewership. Anyone have any suggestions?
We are live streaming this weekend in Great Falls, MT a $6500 added 8 Ball tournament men & women. We will be using the instant replay while live streaming for the audience.
You will also be able to watch it on Facebook.
We have also partnered with Tiger Products Inc.
Tiger Products presents OTBnTV Live at http://www.otbntv.com
It is also posted in the live streaming section here on AZB.

Thank you

Instant replay is a good thing and only adds to a broadcast imo. Don, you guys always have nice added money in your events up there. Five to ten K seems to be the norm, rather than the exception. No wonder you get such big fields with the healthy pay outs. I see a lot of good players coming down from that area. It helps to develop them when they have so many good events to play in. Good job big D!

Don,

It's definitely good. Production value is essential to making streaming appeal to the masses.

A better question however, is Instant Reply realistic?

IMO, no. It is not.

With consideration of cost, effort and technical application required, I strongly feel that superior production value can be gained in other areas much greater ease. Don't get me wrong, if you have the capability already and don't mind maintaining it, then by all means, please continue to do so.

Either way, keep it up. You guys are awesome.

Don, I've enjoyed the instant replay on your streams. You don't overdo it, yet show the spectacular shots over again.

Keep up the good work, & hoping my schedule allows me to tune in.

You know we all love your singing.

I believe any real pool players would not really mind waiting a minute or
two to make sure that a correct call is made. We all know that an incorrect call can really change the momentum of a match just as a
correct call can. If you have the technology to get it right- DO IT!

DVR me PLEASE!

Heck yeah, instant replay would not only be good for close calls but also for the audience to replay awesome shots (slo mo too?).

On my wish list is what I'll coin "DVR" capability. My biggest beef with streams is it's on someone else's schedule. Sorry, but I don't often want to be watching matches until 4 am or what have you.

Give me pause, rewind, FF please! If it's a PPV, let the purchasers have password protected access for a short time (3 days to a week?). I guarantee (FWIW, lol) streamers will get a significant boost in sign-ups, perhaps enough to make a difference in surviving and thriving.

That said, I'm not familiar with technology to know how feasible/cost effective this is. It's just my Christmas wish list...

Probably cost prohibitive, and as far as I know, may not even be possible, but have you looked into computer generated replay like they have in tennis? Is the idea even conceivable in pool or am I being a moron?

Cheese,

I totally agree with Paul here. Murphy's Law seems to come into play when I watch sometimes and hate it when I miss "those" shots. It's happened more then once while on your site and I was able to see "what happened". Nice feature. As things stand now this feature, with it's time limitation, is not sufficient for rulings of any sort. Perhaps things should just remain viewer friendly at this point until technology catches up and the cost goes down.

Keep up the good work, & hoping my schedule allows me to tune in.

Paul,

You are certainly right about Cheese doing good work. I plan on tuning in but one never knows sometimes. (Raises glass and says): "Here's hoping both our schedules allows us to meet up in the chat."

You know we all love your singing.

OMG Paul, don't encourage him. His singing is a shark move. It causes peeps to try and best him and....... it's a trap I tell yea. I'm certain you've heard stories about peeps going into the janitor's closet and running the table with a broom stick .... well, that story has been twisted a little bit over the years and was all started by none other then Don "Cheese" Akerlow. Here's the proof and listen closely at the end --> you can hear the balls being broken. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YF0xhnqtfek&feature=related

Let's not get him started on Cowboy Poetry either. :sorry:

(Don, Keep up the good work my friend :thumbup2:)

Sometimes its the simple ideas that make you say duh. Meaning I've never really considered it, but certainly would enjoy that in a broadcast. You could highlight great shots or even break down critical missed shots. Kudos to you for trying to build upon and improve your broadcast!

That's exactly what Don has done with it thus far. Your right, the KISS system works wonders and brings out the "duh" factor!

Questioning my singing ability? I'll have you know I have been working all summer with a private voice coach and it has improved greatly. But I may not sing a note. OK I will. Hope to see you all in the chat room promises to be some great players this weekend and a lot from Canada are showing up.
Thank you all for your support.

Thank God you did not mention Cowboy Poetry ---- oooops, I think I just did!

I think using instant replay on live streams is a great tool to illustrate great shots & strategy (any chance of adding a "tele-strator", too?). However, I don't think it should be used for calling fouls as it's a tool only available to the streamed table(s). Unless all the tables have camera access, it's not fair to say some tables have video replay & others don't.

I have not looked into that and I am not sure where to go to do so.
do you have a link?

Thanks for the suggestion I will look into it!
