International Cue Collectors Show

To clear it up.. during the first show, Mark and Bill went back and forth and Mark was invited and couldn't make it.. he has been to the last two or three and he has always been invited. The whole paragraph I read about someone saying how he lobbied for him is horse manure..

Out of the whole letter, thats the only thing you have to comment on?

I find the fact that three people (that I've seen) that are involved with the ICCS are all that have spoken up about this. Where is the sense of decency and standing up for yourself and what you believe in? I can't believe that the people that are remaining silent about this actually think its ok. Are they afraid of not being in the good graces of the powers that be?

Outside of Ken & Icon, I guess thats it. The rest are going to sit tight lipped. Generally speaking when people speak up in defense of something, they believe in it. In cases like this where speaking up could garner enemies, their silence pretty much means they don't agree with what is going on but they don't dare speak out against it for fear of the popular kids getting mad at them.

You folks invovled with this have a grand old time at the show and be sure to give Martyne some more money, I'm sure she could use it to "finish" her never ending book.

Who are you anyway? The ICCS isn't about Martyne. Its not the homage to Martyne show.

Yep... it's the only thing I needed to clarify.. the rest of the letter?!?!? You need to consider the source.. I am sure if there are any issues Mr. Prout can get a group together and hash them out...

JV (---knows Will's the man for the job...

I Agree

Will has an impressive career history which includes managing thousands of people for a very successful company. He also has one of the best cue collections in the world. He plays pretty good too.

I have never met anyone in the cue world that doesn't like and respect him.

There is no better person to take the ICCS to the next level.

I'm nobody that doesn't have a vested interest in it. I've seen a few people feel strongly enough about an issue that would certainly bother me if I were involved. I took an interest in it because I was surprised by the silence of most people involved in it and was wondering why. If I did have a vested interest in this, I would have been standing on the mountain tops next to Cuaba questioning "why" to anyone that was involved or that would listen.

FWIW, I never said the show was about her or a homage to her. Considering she's accepted a lot of money from a lot of people in the ICCS for multiple yrs and the other questionable actions, I think its a big deal as do some others.

No skin off my back and I guess I've rattled the cage enough. The lack of responses and the content of some others have satisfied my curiosity. You folks have a great time and be sure to wave to the camera when you walk by JCIN. I'll be watching the live stream.

About me: It dosent matter, thats my whole point. I own some big cues and share them with who I want when I want(and that info about me is meaningless, useless and irrelevant) thats my point its about cues! not people who own them. its about cues not me or any other person. Unless there is something more to this than I know about, I wouldnt own a cue if created drama and stress-I'd pick a new interest.

have fun everyone,

eric

Hi Eric,

This is the show I mentioned when you and I got together and suggested that you attend one. It's a shame that both you (and Jeff too) don't put together an awesome display.

I got a real kick out of the one in Las Vegas I attended. For example, at the Las Vegas show, these gentlemen came in from Japan and showed a bunch of old Tad's - the hand made ones - they were so beautiful they blew me away. Then you have all the fancy scrimshawed cues - it's more like going to an art museum than a cue show.

It's well worth the trouble of attending. It's fun to meet some of the cue makers like Schick, Bill Stroud - Tad was there. Ken Kerner, Will Prout, and Jimbo were a kick to meet. The crowd is amiable and very cool.

I felt like the old cues, like the kind I really like, did not fit in all that well with the show. I mean, the cues I was displaying were 50 to 100 years old - not exactly "hi tech" compared to the others. The show is more of like a display of the state of the cue makers art.

Anyway, I thought the whole thing was a hoot - only problem was nobody wanted to go out and shoot pool!

Chris

There is a 9b and 1 pocket tournament listed on the event schedule thur and fri this year. I plan on borrowing someones cue and using my keys to pop the tip off of it so I have an excuse to bow out without embarasing myself. LOL

need to get that guy from mars to stop writing code long enough to attend!
he's attempting to corner the market on gus cues and manipulate the prices! ;)

Academy of American Cue Art

It amazes me that the general cue related public does not recognize the distinction between the ICCS - International Cue Collectors Show and the Academy of American Cue Art.

The ICCS is a private entity started by and run by Bill Stroud. Its only function in life is to have an annual cue show with selected invited cuemakers and selected invited collectors and/or dealers displaying their wares to the invited guests and public.

No mistake, for the past several years the ICCS has had on display and for sale the finest collection of high end cues anywhere anytime. Unfortunately the general public and potential cue collectors have not been properly advised of the show keeping attendance to a minimum and in my opinion not encouraging new people into our great 'hobby'.

As an example the show held at the Marina Del Rey in Beverly Hills. CA (one of the premier hotels in America with at least a billion dollars worth of yachts in its back yard) on a rainy Saturday afternoon, with a million dollars or more of cues on display, no one showed up that I did not know. Wouldn't you expect at least one or two celebrities in film or sports to attend just out of curiosity and come by to see what we had on display? Poor local advertising.

The Academy of American Cue Art, a 501C3 corporation (not for profit - tax deductible) was formed many years ago by Dick Black, Jim Stadum, Thomas Wayne, Jerry McWorter and others to promote the art of the cue.

In October 2007 Bill Stroud was offered the vacant presidency position, Will Prout, Tony Martino and myself (Dick Abbott) were added to fill vacant positions on the board of directors. Mike Shamos, Lynn Castle and Tom Watters are the other board members.

A cue museum is a concept of the Academy of American Cue Art, whether it be permanent or traveling. Without the approval of the board of directors the museum will not be created anywhere.

To obtain cues for the museum we must rely on donations, these can be people benevolent enough to donate to our cause or heirs of deceased collectors. All donations and membership fees are tax deductible.

For donations to be tax deductible they must be appraised by a qualified appraiser, you can't claim a donated cue to be worth X amount and expect the IRS to accept your deduction. Judith Godfrey, an approved fine arts appraiser was brought on board an has for the past two years been educated in artistic cues, her cue education is ongoing. Her qualifications can be seen here - http://www.judithgodfreyassociates.com/.

Again, please do not confuse the ICCS and the Academy of American Cue Art, they are two separate entities, the common bond is Bill Stroud and common people on both boards, that does not constitute an alliance of the two organizations.

This said, I am in total support of both organizations as they both have much to offer in propagating and perpetuating our goals.
