i know one fellow that is not going, even though he's attended all but one, of the seven previous shows!
jimbo feels the elections of the officers wasn't handled properly.
though he does think will prout is the man for the job of leader, which is the position he holds.
also objects to the inclusion, in the show, of martyne aka sue bachman.
he also felt that mark kulungian, should recieve an invitation.
i know if i were to go, one of the main reason would be to meet big bald jim in the flesh!
hopefully, thst can still happen next year, at the show in atlanta, or where ever . . .

I attended last year and had a great time, but it is very difficult to get away on labor day weekend.

Doug<---Not able to attend this year :(

I saw that too, I dont know him or why I even got that info.

My take on it is this, all it is is a bunch of cues and the people who own them, now to own them you have to buy them(most of the time ;) ). If you buy cues, you probably sell cues too. So what? Last I checked its still a open market(for the time being). Nobody is going to sell for a loss. I have a question about this. This was the issue of the man(who I dont know) that was upset right? Dealers being there? Since we all buy/sell cues arnt we all dealers? Or are collectors dumber because they dont get the higher profit margine that "Dealers" get when they sell a cue. So is it wise guys selling to dumb guys creating the tension? how silly is this? It seems to me that everyone who hasa interest in cues should go and have fun and do their thing, whats wrong with that. I'm not judging anyone here I just dont get it???

Why everyone who loves cues cant get together in the same place at the same time to share their passion makes no sence to me at all.

Personally beyond playing with cues and owning a few pieves of history it aint that big of a deal. My ring just aint that tight(if you know what I mean???)

I cant understand this, to me its like the Middle East a bunch of bickering over nothing.

Having said that, I'm not going. I'm not a exibionist. I dont show off my cues. I play pool, i'm a player who has a interest in cues. Going to Santa Fe( a beatiful town woth good food) on that weekend is a disaster. Of course if it was in Vegas I still probably wouldnt make it, Grown men all catty about cues. LOL

My two cents...................

I have been to several and it's definitely worth the trip. Bill Stroud does a fantastic job putting in countless hours.

I really don't understand the part about invitation only. I think it's an absolute crock. I have called Bill several times in the past for some of my collector friends and it's absolutely never been a problem for them to attend.

As far the politics and drama, it's that way in everything. As much as I like Jimbo, he thrives on it. Me, I just want to hang out with a bunch of good people, drink a few beers, eat good food and look at some of the nicest cues on the planet. Screw the drama.

People who have never attended should leave their opinions about the event to themselves until they have gone and can give feedback on something that have actually witnessed in person versus hear say.

I am extremely disappointed that I won't be attending this year. Family and job first.

One thing is for sure, if someone who has absolutely no influence in the big time cue world can attend and feel apart of it like I have in the past, then anybody can.

Take care,
JimmyK

I didnt even know a invitation was needed, thats a good way to make people feel important. Its an illusion is all. It adds vaslue to the event to have the "invitation VIP" day and the "Public" day. the reality is its the same chit different day. Some people really dig that and happy for them. It dont make a hill of beans difference to me.

I know Mr. Stroud has done this for along time and I wish him and his friends the best.

It sounds more like a club than a "Show" but I'm not the judge here-just seems that way to me.

like I said I'd rather play with my cue than talk about it. But thats just me.

I hope everyone who goes has a good time and I encourage everyone to go!!!

That's basicallly what these shows are about! The enjoyment of the cues and cue craft reigns supreme. Naturally, some deals and sales happen too. Most of the cuemakers have a limited number of cues for sale and the comissioned collection is open for public bids, I believe. I'm looking forward to it!

oh come on eric!
of course you don't give a hoot about seeing your own cues!
you DO like to look at cues owned by others! . . . and new cues!
I'm not a exhibitionist.
yes, the organizers would much prefer that you keep your clothes on! :)
no interest io your personal poll!

If you're not a collector (I'm not) then I can see how these things could easily appear to be trivial, drama filled cattiness. If I hadn't seen some of what Jimbo had to say about it, I might be inclined to think more along the lines of you folks that think its silly. After seeing his reasons and giving it some thought, I don't think its silly nonsense like some believe it to be.

Some of the people commenting in this thread claim to be very passionate about the world of professional pool. They want to see it succeed and the players get the respect and pay that pros in other sports get. Its about the over all betterment of the game. Take your professed love of pool and think how you would feel if life had taken you down the path of cue collector instead of pool player. Keeping this in mind, see a part of what Jimbo had to say (more in context than what has been said here) and see if it doesn't help you realize where he and other collectors are coming from.

At one of the early shows I lobbied for Mark Kulungian to be invited, I am not his friend, I am not a fan of some of the things he's done in the past, but for me it was about the cues and I felt that he had some cues that needed to be seen. He should have been there. I was told that this was the ICCS and that it stood for International Cue Collectors Show, and "Dealers" were not welcome. If you look at the members that displayed last year or those who are going to display this year I think you'll find over 50% can be described as "Dealers". Some might think this is a good change. I for one do not. Maybe a name change is in order.

Maybe my biggest pet peeve and the main reason I will not be attending this year is Martyne/Sue Bachman. I can not believe that Mr. Stroud has connected this group with her name. IMO I can not think of a worse person to be involved with. IMO she is nothing more then a scam artist. For some reason it seems people are scared to bring this up. Not only is she a member of the ICCS, and Bill has given her the seal of approval, he has also given her the stage at no less then 4 shows. Nobody else has ever been allowed to speak twice. She has not only used that seminar to try to solicit money out of the members, but also used the mailing list. She single handedly almost screwed up the Blue Book project and I hope those of you reading this know how important that is to the hobby we love. She has also allegedly been involved in many other scams, most recently, allegedly stealing a cue from a small up and coming cue maker. That cue has since been returned, but only after a huge out pouring of public support. In Park City she showed us pages from her book and asked for just a tiny bit more money because the project was so close. Then, in Palm Beach, she just needed a tiny bit more money because the book would be ready for Valley Forge. Of course the book was never ready and is still not ready. It’s probably better off because the photos she intends to use do not belong to her and if the book came out it would place one more black eye on the industry that we don't need. I feel sorry for the members who gave her money and a lot of money at that. I know of a few who claim to have given her money and I am sure others have as well. That’s why when Bill indicated at last years meeting that he wanted our new cue museum to be located close to Martyne so she can work there I almost fell out of my chair. I bit my tongue that day and it has bothered me ever since.

I am sure that this letter will not make me any friends. I'm sure it might make me a few enemies. That being said, I had to write this and get it off my chest. I've always been a straight shooter and I've always had an immense love of cues. I wrote this in hopes that it opens some eyes and opens some dialogue. I am not trying to piss people off. I am trying to make this into a better group and I hope we can advance the hobby of cue collecting and the art of cue making. With or without me this group will do fine, I am sure. I just want to put our best foot forward and I don't think that's a claim we can currently make.

Tap... Tap...Tap... Jimmy!

I went last year as a Collector. I did not try to sell a single cue even though I'm also a Dealer. Was I asked about selling any cues I displayed... absolutely! But I kindly told the interested parties that all the cues I had displayed were in my collection and not for sale.

Being my first ICCS, I was concerned I would get the small fish in a big pond (which I am) syndrome given the "drama" scenario everyone speaks of. I was not treated like that in the least bit. I was made to feel welcomed and appreciated for what I brought to the show. It was a great experience, and like Jimmy K, I am very disappointed I cannot attend this year.

With all that said, Jimbo did make some good points in his letter in regards to one individual I will not mention by name. I do not know "her" well, but I have not heard one single positive comment about her involvement ever.

Come joins for a live free stream from the show on Friday and Saturday. We will have interviews with collectors at their display's and we are doing something new this year as well.

For the first time viewers of the stream will be able to purchase cues live during the stream. Cue makers who have cues for sale will present them for sale online and answer any questions from prospective buyers or just anything a viewer would be interested in knowing about that particular maker. As of now I have no clue who will have what available, Bill Stroud just mentioned that he knew makers would have some cues available at the show so we will try it and see how people like it.

Last year there were some technical issues that kept us from doing much with footage after the show. This year is going to be much different and we plan on doing many interviews with cue makers and collectors before during and after the stream that will be available on our site.

As long as the ICCS is a vehicle to elevate the status of Susan Mary Backman aka Martyne Gabriel aka Martyne Bachmen, and allow her to solicit more money for another unfinished book project, I will not attend.
