Invitation to karl boyes

How about?

Getting word to Boyes of this thread on here, and the challenge, and let Karl and Dennis work out the details.

It doesn't matter which country they play in. The only thing that matters is the room, the table, and the immediate environment. (Gosh, I think ANYONE that had seen 'The Hustler" before would understand this).

That would actually be possibly the most neutral turf there is. We are a commonwealth, and yet the little brother of the USA. The balance of fans, the mix of cultures, Canada would be the ideal place for all Europe vs USA matches.

I agree. All of these matches should be played in Calgary Alberta Canada.

USA's "Little Brother" ?? WTF??

How dare you insult us like that.

Canada it is then!

you can come and play on our best match table

Pretty sure Shane would play Jungo every day for the rest of his life if he could get the action. And do it in Jungo's basement with his grammy sweating it in the corner.

Of course because he's more likely to win. Just an example of despite SVB being a clear favourite, the home country venue is always an advantage. All the long races involving an American have been played on American soil and as Americans always need to bring their winning rate in these long gambling matches into the conversation when talking about a dominant pool country in the world, the location is usually forgotten. Just trying to be objective here.

I'd love to see TAR in Europe setting up a few big challenge matches. Heck, you could set up one in our pool club here in Helsinki if you wanted to :)

Yes let's look at SVB. He beat Mika on his practice table in his home room. Mika plays pretty sporty. Home turf not that big of an advantage it can work against you too.

SVB got lucky with his break :D

Dennis does have an advantage in the US but let's face it, Vegas is still more of the mecca for pool than Europe at this point in time

Brazilian, Korean and many other nationality fighters have to fight their UFC matches in Vegas or the states because 95% of events are in vegas or the states, very few outside the US. They do that because the UFC is the no 1 organisation

For Karl v Dennis, i'd like to see the match in Vegas but maybe Karl has the stronger say in the length and rules used

These money matches will get add more spice to next year's Mosconi cup :)

What about a money match between Darren Appleton and Shane Van Boening ? Both like to play for money, would be sweet

Shane and Darren already have something set up. Not sure on the details yet but i know its going to go down sometime in the next few months.

Come on man...Calgary can't spell pool hall. To date I have seen nothing even resembling good equipment. I'm sure the TAR guys are going to be able to travel to and ship their stuff to Europe and back AND recoup their expenses. No offense guys but this is not Color of Money II for $200K. It just can't economically work. It would have to be in parallel with an event that they are already at.

What! You mean you were "not" impressed with Mikes and the Hideout??? :p

We will build a decent pool hall. It is not like this city could not use it.

Its not like the Hideout is a bad place....Its the equipment! The last time I was there the cloth and rails had'nt been changed since the Titanic sunk and the balls are the balls they recovered from the Titanic.lol

Would do you expect for FREE pool.lol
Or do they do that anymore?

I am pretty sure Karl would do it, in Europe. Or is it expected that Karl would be the one playing the away game for the cash and Dennis has home field advantage? I love to see the action thrown out there but it is getting a little much that every time the American player expects the opponent to be the one doing the traveling and playing in the foreign country.

Celtic,
Where is T.A.R. located? USA
Where is Accu-Stats located? USA

What production company does England have that can produce top quality live-streaming?

I can't ever recall a single epic money match up between two European players that was ever live streamed anywhere? Can you?

They all want our money, the fame and acclaim that goes with beating up on those nasty American brutes. :D

Until our friends north of the border or accross the pond are capable or even willing to spend some money on producing big time pool money match ups, I guess them fellas will need either a plane or boat ticket.

They changed the whole place around, and pretty much got rid of all the pool players. It is way darker, alot less tables, the tables in as dismal shape as ever.

The Hideout was never great. Calgary at one time had

The Great White
Styx
The Black Wolf
Unwinders

All of these were proper pool halls.

The Black Wolf was the best pool hall this city ever saw, the tables were kept in perfect shape, there were always players and always action. It was a true sharks den and breeding ground for the players. The place even had the only 3 cushion table in town and one of the nicest 6x12 snooker tables.

Unwinders was a great pool hall, Bernie's main cash table where he played everyone including Alain Martel was there and there was a great 9-ball tournament and $5-$10 money ball going on alot of the time.

The Great White was awesome, they had a solid 9-ball tournament every week which got the top players. They also supported pool and were a major part of the professional event that Calgary held each year during the SML league playoffs. Their initial location on Glenmore dominated the new one they got, and the expansion into the upstairs with all bar boxes was a terrible idea that might have lead to their downfall.

Styx was a decent pool hall. Players did not hang out there but the Sunday tournament always packed the house with the pool players and was a great tournament.

The Black Wolf, Unwinders, and Great White are all history, long gone. Styx is not a pool hall anymore.

Calgary really needs a new pool hall with a decent number of 9-footers for 9-ball tournaments, a good atmosphere, and that gives the players a place to hang out again and thus spurring interest in the game and matching up. I would love to have a pool hall with decent 9-footers and which becomes a hangout for the players as the Black Wolf once was. A place like that would be populated constantly by a pool community in this city starved for a place to play.

As always...the voice of wisdom and apparently "crickets" from the detractors.

Guys, Darren Appleton just told me Karl doesn't play money matches and never has. It has no interest in them so it's not a case that he's a coward or anything like that

So it is going to be a bit of a push for Karl to suddenly want to have his first big money match against a monster like Dennis away from home

So the chances of this match happening are very slim

I gotta say if Dennis knew Karl didn't play money matches and i'm sure all the top players know who does and who doesn't , then it is slightly poor form to call him out on a public forum.

Yes, such wisdom, like the pool equivalent of rocket science, quantum physics has nothing on that post.

The fact that Karl is at a disadvantage playing in the USA against Dennis is not changed in the slightest by that post. Yes tar is located in the USA, yes both players will be in Vegas at the time of the BCA, yes this makes the logistics of the match easier, WTG Newton. It does not change the reality that Karl is STILL at a disadvantage playing in the USA because of the home field advantage and the bet, whether it be $5000 or $50,000 is a bad one due to that fact and thus screws up the matches chances of taking place.

Terry can spout off that amazing revelation till the cows come home and it is not going to change the fact that Karl is going to see the match as a bad bet if played in Vegas and he is not going to do it and so Tar, Accustats, can all sit there in the USA and NOT take part in a match that is NOT going to take place at all. THAT is the reality which this thread will lead to. It does not matter in the slightest what the logistics are if the match does not go off at all.
