IPods during Communication are so Wrong

My wife and I went out last Friday night for dinner and then to play some. We decided to check out a pool hall that neither of us has been to before. We walk in and the place is upstairs. We go up and there are about 15 or 16 nine foot Brunswicks, a few dart lanes a jukebox and a basic looking bar. We get a table and start playing.

The area of the room we are in has two rows of tables, end to end, with each row having 4 tables. We are on the second table in one of the rows and the third table is empty.

A short time later a group starts using the third table. This group consists of two young men and a young woman. They all look to be in their early 20s. They all have on IPods. So far no problems. As the young woman is shooting one of the guys, who appears to be her SO, keeps standing at the end of their table, closest to our table, with his hands on the end of the table, wide stanced and his legs extended towards our table. This guy is almost planted there and won't move.

Each time either myself or my wife need to shoot from the end of the table this guy is in the way. I try and casually ask him to move but he can't hear a word I am saying cause the damn IPod is blasting in his ears. I finally get his attention and he moves. You think he might keep an eye out but no way. It happens several more times. I try and talk to the guy to ask him to pay attention but I can't because the guy won't turn off or down the damn IPod. My wife and I leave.

I am not a violent person but this kid was rude. I wanted to grab the cord for those ear buds and give it a good yank. Nothing upsets me more than when I am trying to talk to someone and I feel they are ignoring or disrespecting me.

Not only is it rude to you, but who goes out with a group and all wear iPods?

The only thing missing is them emailing other people at the same time.

Do they hate each other that much that they wear Ipods to ignore themselves. Why even hang out?

It's not about using the I-Pods...it's about being SEEN using the I-Pods. They're the latest status symbol.

I-pods are the new Bling.

are you serious? i just bought a grill!

Next time bring some scissors or a gerber and snip the cord. I hate having to ask people, who are crowding the table, excuse me. After my third "hey, can I squeeze by" I give them "the look of disapproval" It scares everyone except my kids:frown:

That is a pain in the ass. I play pool to be social and talk to the others involved. I remember when I started playing pool in college, my roommate was very good, but he always played with his Walkman on listening to the Doors. It really did not make for fun pool.

This is a problem with the management. You have to bring it up to them. In the room I play in that has a mix of serious players and social players, the management is on top of this. When they see people hanging between tables when its not their shot, they let them know to stay on the other side of the table when they are not shooting. This way they won't get in the way of the other players. They explain this to the casual players in a nice way and the reason for it, and it usually works.

Definitely bring it up to the owner, and have him change or implement a policy so that his employees stay on top of this.

The worst is when it is allowed in tournament play. I saw a certain *unnamed* pro stop to adjust songs, diddle with the volume, reposition the ear buds...all while he was at the table. He would do this at that start of each inning...between shots...

Me thinks it was a blatant shark move...or maybe he has specific songs he listens to for banks, certain ones for draw shots, certain ones for cut shots...

I thought Ipods were the new bling 2yrs ago?

Typical, typical, typical...I have come to the conclussion that almost no-one who plays casually in a pool hall is aware that there are actually OTHER PEOPLE outside of their party that are also playing in the same space! LOL It's not just the iPods man, it's absolute lack of respect for others and the loss of respect for those that are trying to enjoy their night as well.

I call 'em pylon people...they just sit there oblivious that the rest of the world is having to move around their space takin' butts!

Wow, I got really worked up over that! LOL It's gonna be a great day folks so get back to livin' it! :)

The Ipod thing with earplugs in public sucks. Not only is it annoying at the pool hall, it's also annoying at the gym when some guy can't hear you and backs up all in your space. I will not play pool with anyone that is wearing one unless I have to in a tourney....

I escapes me why people do not respect the playing area of other folks. If you are on a table, and they are next to you, why in the world would they decide to camp out inbetween the two tables???? I was practicing Sunday and some guys next to me would often wait for their turn inbetween our two tables. Granted, they rarely got in the way, but they could have stayed at either the head or the foot and not been in anyones way.....idiots

Seriously

Would anyone be offended if I wheeled my custom Ipod cart into a pool hall to play some 9 ball? Its just a 2'x2' cart with custom golf cart wheels with spinners..and the cart has a glowing neon red undercarriage...and I am fixing to install people feelers ( exactly like curb feelers, but different). I do have a beeping horn so when I back up I dont run into anyone..and a backward looking cam just in case......Let me know if this will be a problem!

first chance i got, when i was shooting a ball towards him, i would intentionally scoop under the cue ball and try to hit him in the back of the head....i dont think he would stand there anymore after that.

That is how pretty much all of our stupid younger generation live in this day and age. Pretty depressing isn't it.

Yea that is pretty annoying. At one of the places I play at, there are a couple of groups of asian kids (high school and up) that there will be 5-6 kids on one table and they all stand around the table while the shooter shoots. I'm assuming that is how they play in the country they came from. Its VERY annoying when they play right next to you. Having to tell them excuse me EVERY time to shoot on the side they are on . So I know what your going through.
