IPT: Any 2nd chance possible?

One of the many excuses/reasons KT gave for the IPT's failure was the passage of laws against Internet gambling. Do you think anybody would give the IPT a 2nd chance if the ban were lifted?

Democrat proposes lifting federal ban on Net gambling

By Declan McCullagh, Staff Writer, CNET News.com
Just six months after President Bush signed a law outlawing online gambling, a key Democratic politician has proposed lifting the ban.

Rep. Barney Frank, a Democrat from Massachusetts and chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, on Thursday introduced a bill that would replace the current broad prohibition with strict regulations, including criminal background checks and financial disclosure, imposed on companies that seek to offer legal Internet gambling.

"The existing legislation is an inappropriate interference on the personal freedom of Americans and this interference should be undone," Frank said. His bill is called the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (PDF).
Last year's legislation tried to eliminate many forms of online gambling by targeting Internet service providers and financial intermediaries, namely banks and credit card companies that process payments to offshore Web sites.

Those sites included ones like BetBug of Toronto; BetWWTS.com of Antigua; Bodog Sportsbook, Casino and Poker of Costa Rica; and Betfair, which has offices in London. Estimates typically put Internet gambling revenue at more than $12 billion a year.

The bill never received a formal up-or-down vote in the entire Congress. Instead, Republican congressional leaders have been criticized for gluing it onto an unrelated port security bill. The Senate unanimously approved the port security measure and it cleared the House of Representatives with only two dissenting votes.

Frank argues that because nearly all states already permit some form of traditional gambling--including lotteries, betting on horse and greyhound racing, and sports wagering--the federal government should legalize and regulate the online equivalents. Instead of a blanket legalization, his legislation would require the Treasury Department to police the industry and ensure that it takes adequate steps to identify minors and compulsive gamblers.

The World Trade Organization ruled in March, for a second time, that the U.S. ban on gambling violates international trade rules and sided with the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda. But the tiny nation has little leverage to force any changes to federal law.

There are signs that the 2006 Net gambling ban has had an impact on the industry. In November, the British site BetOnSports agreed to cease signing up U.S. customers. BetOnSports' founder, Gary Stephen Kaplan, was arrested earlier this month in the Dominican Republic and faces criminal charges in the United States. In addition, payment processor Neteller in February said it would cut about 250 jobs as a response to the gambling crackdown.

I suppose there may be a chance if they, they paid everyone the full amount they are owed. That should be the first step, then they should have to agree to post all prize money in advance, with a un-interested financial institution, that would handle all payment of the prize money.

Now with that said, I think that there is a better chance, of a full grown monkey jumping out my ass while I am sitting here typing this on the computer.;)

Sorry for the straight forward approach to this topic.

KT had the IPT primed for sale before the thing ever got started in my opinion.
And that is why I don't think many others would give him a second chance.

Yes. All would be forgiven.

Yes, they would. Because if the gaming ban on the net were lifted the sale of the IPT to the Chinese billionaire would go through and the players would be paid the miniscule amount, to a billionaire, they are owed and the IPT would be off and running again, under new management. Internet gambling was the whole idea behind the sale in the first place but our big brother government, Rs and Ds both voted for this ban. Can’t have anything going on that they can’t tax. Wouldn’t be “Prudent”.

Has anyone ever proved that Ho has ever even heard of the IPT or KT?

Only one I have heard mention the plan to sell to Ho is KT and his minions.

Why would Ho buy the IPT? You don't have to own the NBA to own a web site that bets on it.

If there was a way to make pool as big as poker, bowling, golf, or any other game or sport, some legit millionare would have done it already. The truth is pool is a game for people to play...it's not a good game to watch on TV for anybody that isn't a pool junkie. Most people with big money didn't get it by being stupid. If there was a way to make it big enough to profit off of it would have been done already. Johnnyt

imo, the gambling ban was huge

I'm convinced KT wanted to replicate the success of bwin.com AND it could have happened

of course the fact that he's a pathological liar never helped

I just spit coffee out of my nose. That was too funny! Rep for you!

It is sad, but I talked to a player this weekend who still thinks the IPT is alive and said he would pay $2000 to play one of the qualifiers right now.

I really hope he is the only one, but, I have a feeling there are others who would give away another $2000.

Just for everyone's information, there is no BAN on internet gambling. Gambling on the internet was just as illegal before last years law. The only difference now is that banks and credit cards companies cant process online gaming transactions. Companies like Netteller, FirePay, and Instadebit were banking intermediaries that could process transactions to and from US bank accounts and online gaming sites. Now these sites have shut down. Now there are a couple of sites that still operate and it is still possible to get money to the sites from US bank accounts. I know because I play internet poker about 6-8 hours a day while I sit in my office. Even if you didnt want to, or couldnt use your bank account or credit card, you can still western union money to any of the operating sites. Online gambling has always been illegal, but the US government is not gonna arrest someone for playing poker in their home. The new bill will regulate and make online gaming legal in the US. It will also incorporate some form of taxation falling on the site to inforce it I believe. Meaning that probably every time you cash out a portion will be withheld for taxes.
