SlumpMaster said:Sorry to bring this thread up again, but I was watching the Daily Show and guess who they did a piece on? Yes, your friend and mine, Kevin Trudeau. I forget what the piece was itself, but I'm sure it wasn't congratulatory. But I saw his face, and it was the face of the huckster I've been watching on infomercials for years. I can't believe it's the same guy behind IPT.
Anyway, I'd like to add a couple of things. One, as of 5/20/05, Trudeau was not on the Forbes billionaire list -- not two billion or even one billion. I'm sure he's still quite wealthy, but he's still a liar.
SlumpMaster said:The sad part is that Kevin Trudeau might actually be serious about starting a pool venture. But he only knows one way to do business, and that's to exaggerate and obfuscate. It's either that, or he's absolutely trying to steal your money, no in-between.
If you want to be optimistic, please do so. The worst that could happen is disappointment. But please, please, PLEASE do not give this man $899.
SlimShafty said:Even Trump says he has way more then he really doesbig deal, If I had a nickel for every person that exaggerates what they make or have I would have my own pool tour
The main point your missing is this guy LOVES the game of pool. What do people think he's going to do? I fail to see the big opportunity to scam anyone with the new IPT tour. You say don't give him the $899.00 because he what, might take off with the money? Lets see $899 * 150 players which is what $135,000 dollars??? come on this guy has a best selling book that made more than that in one week! he has sold almost 2 million books, he could finance the tour on book sales alone, why on earth would this guy look to the pro pool community to take a few hundred thousand? that's just silly.
I guess Loree Jon Jones and Mike Sigel have been duped, and I guess the ex head from FOX Sports, a guy who continues to produces some of the top programming on TV today and he's been duped too, right?
We all know the majority of business have skeletons in the closet and some of our top CEO's have had checkered past, heck Martha Stewart went to jail and is more famous now then ever and has a new show on NBC.
All this past talk about Kevin is just that PAST, He will hold this event and there will be million dollar tournaments for the next year or two, I have all the faith in the world that will happen, after that, who knows.
Sorry but I totally fail to see any scam in any part of this venture, I only see a guy who likes to be around pro pool players and has a vision of what he thinks pool can be. He wants fun, excitement and just maybe the possibility to change pool as we know it, he already makes $$ in other areas.
Some rich guys buy Yachts and multiple mansions, he's buying a pool tourIf I could do it I would too.
Barbara said:There was a writeup by Mike Panozzo in BD that explained why 8-ball was chosen. Trudeau believes the average viewer understands 8-ball better than 9-ball. Think about it, you were probably introduced to 8-ball as your first game playing pool.

There have been a variety of opinions as to the choice of these two Hall of Famers competing for $150,000 in total prize monies. The most recent press release about this event has given me a ray of sunshine in an otherwise gloom-and-doom pool world. I'm throwing this out there for some opinions.
Let me see if I can read between the lines of this latest press release:
The International Pool Tour, a major new pool organization founded by media mogul Kevin Trudeau, will launch on Aug. 20 with a high-profile, made-for-TV battle of the sexes between Hall-of-Famers Mike Sigel and Loree Jon Jones...
It's a "made-for-TV battle of the sexes," and who better than two Hall of Famers for the LAUNCH -- key word here.
Continuing: ...Hoping to stimulate mainstream interest in the event by grafting poolroom conditions to tournament pool, Trudeau has mandated several unusual rules for the matchup. There will be no shot clock, jump cues or breaking from the side rail. Winner will break, and slow-speed cloth will be used...
These are unusual rules, most likely only for TV purposes, and it's very interesting that they'll be using the slow-speed cloth, with the players not afforded a jump cue.
THIS GOT MY ATTENTION: ...Trudeau expects a full-fledged series of televised 8-ball tournaments to follow in the next year under the International Pool Tour banner. Each will have a minimum of $1 million in guaranteed prize money...
I'm leery of the phrase "Trudeau EXPECTS a full-fledged series," but what is fantastic is what follows: "Each will have a minimum of $1 million in guaranteed prize money." EACH? Wow!![]()

In sum: ...IPT founder Trudeau, who launched and owns the Golf TV Channel in the United Kingdom, has built a $2 billion global business empire in television, publishing and marketing. He is best known in the U.S. for his many infomercials hawking self-help and holistic health products.
$2-billion global business empire, Trudeau knows how to make things happen. This could be a godsend to American pool as we know it today.![]()
Any thoughts?

Big Bad Bern said:I have already emailed the IPT to find out where to send my $899, 2weeks ago! Although I have not heard back yet you can be assured that I will be one of the first in line to pay my money! I have double that amount of money in my pool cues and case and have lost more than that gambling, and I bet alot of you out there have also. I am not a rich man but this is too good a shot to pass up, I look at it this way I could bet this money on one hand of blackjack at the casino and loose but this way has a chance to win alot more. A friend of mine once made fun of me for how much money I spent on my pool cues ($2500), but he got really quiet when I asked him what he spent on his fishing boat ($10,000+).
Yes there are things that make me nervous about this, I am worried that pro's will recieve preferential treatment over average guys because it will make for better TV . That is not what makes poker so exciting people tune in to see if a average joe can win it all, and this is what the barroom 8 baller will tune in for.
As my Dad used to say get on the wagon or get run over!

I'd deal in cash with this guy, I would not be suprised see paper hanging everywhere. And for sure don't let him get hold of your credit card number! From his chat on CCB it looks like he is pulling the old "get on board quick or you won't get rich" scam.JAM said:....I wouldn't care if it was Kevin Trudeau or Attila the Hun. If there is a tournament offering $200,000 to $300,000 as a first-place prize, I will be the first in line to pay the $899 membership fee for my horse. .....
If this venture takes off, I am in like Flynn! Bring it on, I say!![]()
