Just like the last thread i wrote about this match what would this match prove. In my opinion it proved nothing because there was nothing at stake and such a short race to 125 balls.these guys looked like it was just a practice session even talking to each other all the time.congrats to Sigel for proving nothing except being a gentleman and having a positive attitude on the match i certainly wasnt expecting sigel not being a complainer so i am very impressed with Sigels attitude.Had schmidt won i really think Sigel would have acted the same as there was no pressure to win this match as again it would prove nothing and that is how i feel.I still like Schmidt if it was a race to 500 and i would even bet 10,000 on John.

In straight pool, I will take my chances with Sigel in any length match. As this match proved, all it takes is one lapse in concentration and you are done.

Didn't prove anything... I totally agree. Well said, in my opinion. The only thing it did prove was the Mike can still play a LITTLE, right?

I don't know...not very many people gave an old player like Sigel much of a chance against John, no matter whether the race was short or long. I think it shows that he still has some game left.

He proved he could make some great shots under pressure and that he can run 60 and 64 on ya.

It proved that Grady Mathews is the best commentator for high profile matches. Had the Professor, Grady Mathews, been paired with Billy Incardona instead of professor Screwloose that was with him...(Grady-"He'll play the one ball." Clueless-"Which one is that one?") Duh.

It also proves that Sigel still has loads of talent, that when we middle age pool players get older, there is still hope that we can retain at least some of our present skill level, it proved that had it not been for the IPT, this would not have been as an exciting evening in pooldom, it proved that anybody is beatable on any given day, it proved that there are still a lot of pool fans who will turn in to view the IPT matches and hopefully, it will prove that pool is STILL not dead.

Well stake him on the action report then

What match really proves anything though? Even if they bet a kajillion dollars in a race to 6,000 one of them is going to come out on top. Do that same thing 100 times and I'm willing to bet that the outcome is pretty much 50/50 on wins vs losses.

It proved the I.P.T. is a viable pool business. It proved that the I.P.T. is the leader of all pool related companies. It proves that K.T., is after all a genius like we had thought before.
OOPS,Smack me side of the head with a Cuetec.hik-hik.:yikes:

It absolutely proves NOTHING.

Sorry,it does prove something................I gotta get a friggin life....to watch something like this.LOL

Wow, you are 100% right. I couldn't have said it better. Mike Sigel was insanely lucky to even run 1 ball against John Schmidt. I can't believe he won. It's ludicrous. Sigel is washed up, yet he beat a world-beater.

Tell you what: we'll have a race to 1000 in straight pool. You vs. Mike Sigel (the lucky SOB who beat Schmidt). Bet will be at least $10,000. I'll back Mike, meaning I'll be donating to you when you beat him.

Sound like a game?

Here here. I think Mike can give John a run for his money but in the long run, I gotta give it to John. I think if you had a race to 500+ John would have an edge over Mike. Don't get me wrong, I love the play of Mike Sigel. He made some clutch shots (like the long cut on the seven to the bottom right corner) which proves to me that he still has some of that Mike Sigel magic in him. But if you were to rate both players on shotmaking ability, concentration, knowledge, and determination; I would have to give John the edge in shotmaking, concentration and determination. I just don't see Mike having more motivation to beat John. He's done so much in his career already. What has Mike NOT done in his career? Still, I would love to see a race to 500 between these two players.

John is a very, very good player. (and a class act) However, when Mike was in his prime, there is no comparison. Sigel was clearly superior.

What? He's right, you know. Mike played perfect pool so many times in finals and semifinal matches, it's ridiculous. When he got to the end of a tournament, the man SMELLED BLOOD.

It proved that Mike is STILL a better pool player than comentator.

I'm in the same boat, it seems like he's the kind of dude who wakes up, looks in the mirror, and says "Damn Mike, you're looking sharp today player" and honestly thinks that he'll step outside his door and have the paparazzi mob him

I don't believe the intent was to prove anything ... Rather, it was a good pairing of skilled 14.1 Players and proved to me that it was well worth watching ...

I just wish they would have let Mike keep the run going as long as possible ... Who knows, he may have gone to 200 or more ?

Why is the answer to everything in the pool world "Well, then why don't you gamble with him"?

I didn't see wrldpro taking any shots at anyone other than to say that "in his opinion" the match didn't prove anything. He gave props to Sigel for playing well and being a gentleman during the match.

Personally, I don't think Ronnie Wiseman showed his "A game" in the finals in Charlotte. Just my opinion.

And, no, I am not interested in betting $10,000 against him. No matter who stakes him.

The fact that Sigel won doesn't surprise me in the least. when playing straight pool age is an advantage. as Mike himself said on the Charlie Rose show. Experience is what wins games in 14.1
