I found this in the "Q and A" section of the IPT website:

QUESTION:
When do the players get paid?

Answer:
This is very funny to me. The pool world is notorious for charlatans, promoters who don’t pay, and promises that aren’t kept. In my world of business, when a businessman tells me he’s going to do something and we shake hands, that means it’s going to happen. In the world of pool, when someone says they are going to do something it means he’s probably going to rob you! I’m joking of course, but there is a running line in pool that goes, “Winning the tournament was easy. Getting paid is the hard part!”

I find it amusing that so many players are concerned with actually getting a check from a tournament. Imagine if I put on a tournament and didn’t pay the players. I get enough criticism in the press. That’s all I would need is some more! Ha, ha. I write this with a big smile on my face because it is so amusing to me that players are concerned about getting paid. But to put all the fears at rest, when I had my first tournament with LoreeJon Jones and Mike Sigel I decided to bring out the money in cash - $150,000.00 in cash money and put it so that everyone could see that Mike actually got the money! Of course, right after the tournament since Mike and I are friends he said, “I don’t want to carry this money around, get rid of it. Give me a check later.” Ha, ha.

So, to make sure that the reputation of pool is actually enhanced from its previous dubious, less than stellar reputation, all the players at IPT events will be paid at the end of each round. We are working out the details and logistics, but the bottom line is when a player comes to the event, and if they lose and are knocked out of the tournament, the next day they will be able to walk into the cashier’s office and get a check for their tournament winnings. This is very exciting, especially with the upcoming IPT King of the Hill Invitational as the $1 million in prize money will be paid out on the spot. It certainly will be a very good Christmas for all 43 lucky players. And then, 30 days later, they come back for another payday at the end of January.

I would imagine that the players who haven't been paid are not finding this very amusing at all.

Of course, it only mentions IPT Events and says nothing about "Qualifiers", but I would think that the policy would (or should) be consistent across the board. Especially after he made such a big deal of pointing out the shortcomings of other tours involving slow payments and how the IPT was going to eliminate that problem.

Hello
Yes from the Q&A section on the IPT website it does tell the reader when the tournament payouts get paid.

The 5 Qualifiers for the 10 open spots were not intended to have any monetary payouts. There were no scheduled prize money payouts in any one of the 5 qualifiers. Any prize money won at any of the 5 Qualifiers was developed "On the Spot" and unexpected..

Jay sponsored, paid for and entered Cliff into those 2 qualifying events with no prior intention of having a chance of winning any prize money. The intended prize came in the form of 1st & 2nd place winning a spot & 2006 Tour Card for the right to play in the 4 2006 scheduled IPT Tourn. Any prize money won came "on the spot" out of the goodness of KT's heart.

Any and all prize money offered at any Qualifier was not advertised, scheduled or planned ahead of time. Any and all prize money won at any qualifier had been developed "on the spot" at the qualifier out of the heart & goodness of KT... No player or sponsor entered any one of the 5 qualifiers expecting to have a chance at winning prize money.

Please don't knock the IPT or KT for adding unexpected free incentive money to any of the 5 qualifiers. Any prize money won at any qualifier was made possible out of the heart & goodness of KT.. Jay and all players who entered any one of the qualifiers were well aware ahead of time of knowing that.

All prize money won at any scheduled IPT tourn will follow all prior protocol and be paid out as scheduled in the Q&A section on the IPT website and as stated in the quote above.

During the actual qualifier the players and Kevin were joking around & speaking before play started. Unplanned at the spur of the moment out of the goodness of his heart KT offered the players incentive money. Any money won at any qualifier was an unexpected FREE BEE given out of the goodness & heart of KT... Why Jay is complaining is beyond all sense... The money that Cliff (Jay) had earned was never advertised or scheduled. It was money given out at the goodness of KT's heart.

Some are being sympathetic to Jay after reading his complaints and post. Well what about the feelings of the man who out of the goodness of his heart is being put down for giving away money from his heart... Did Jay ever give the players any free money out of the goodness of his heart in the past? Did any pro player in the past ever get any free incentive money from Jay Helfert? Thank You

Jay you are well aware of this and should be grateful. Why are you complaining? Why would anyone complain knowing this? Please don't knock a man for giving money away out of the goodness of his heart. Knock the man who has the gall to come up here on this public forum and twist the truth around. Not the man and organization that is trying to do some good for the pool players. Players in the past who were low paid, some were ripped off never being paid & exploited in the past by people like the same man who has been complaining ever since not getting an IPT job.

No player was promised the chance of winning any prize money prior to paying their 2000 qualifying entree fee.

Please for those who were unaware, let it be known that the IPT GAVE the Qualifier Players many FREE 2000 Entries and chances to earn unexpected MONEY (and a good amount of money) out of the goodness & heart of Kevin Trudeau.

In the past I have won over 3000 and had been handed 300. The IPT is Good for all players not bad. It's a new organization. Please if anyone has any real concerns or problems seek out the real truth and don't always believe what you read on a public forum at face value. There are always 2 sides to a story.

Please don't be offended if any ask me a questions or I don't answer a post etc.. I seldom come on AZ . If I don't respond it means I haven't come back up to this website. Maybe in a few days I can check.

God Bless

You said it yourself- its prize money, not a gift.

Pool players are grateful for any prize money, let alone extra prize money. It was a generous act from KT, but lets face it, the extra prize money was not given purely 'out of the goodness & heart of KT'. It was an advertising stunt. The idea was to encourage more people to enter the Qs.

From what I,ve read on this thread , I think the issue is that Jay wasnt told the truth. He seems to have got the impression that he was being given the runaroud. You seem to ignore the fact that twice he was told his check was in the mail and it wasnt!
My guess is that if he had been told that because the extra prize money was not scheduled, it would take longer to pay out [ and had been given a realistic date instead of excuses,], he might have been less impatient. He might not have liked waiting but what could he do about it ?

Maybe if Jay thought he was being treated as a customer, rather than someone 'demanding their 'Freebee', this thread would never had existed and a lot of negative publicity would have been avoided.

Gabber.......but then again.......what do I know.

Yes, Wonderlan, Jay Helfert has given FREE money out of the goodness of his heart in the past to pro players. As a matter of fact, I most likely could retire comfortably on the MONIES that Jay has GIVEN in the past to pro players. :p

You're way off the mark now, Wonderlan. Jay Helfert has not exploited any pool player I know of. If anything, he's probably been on the short end of the stick more times than he'd like to remember when it comes to helping pool players.

I can state that Jay Helfert has financed pool players to compete in tournaments, just like he did recently out of the kindness of his heart with Cliff Joyner, as well as action and has a fine reputation in the pool business. He has even helped some players AND pool folk get on their feet when they had nowhere to live by allowing them to stay at his personal home.

Thankfully, the bonus payout to Jay for sponsoring Cliff Joyner has been accomplished. I'm currently an IPT proponent, Wonderlan, but I do not like to see anyone post up untruths about a man who is well known within the pool community for the last 30-plus years.

Wonderlan, is this you? http://www.internationalpooltour.com/ipt_content/ipt_players/bio/Cernero_Michael.asp

I think met you in Orlando on several occasions outside in the "smoking lounge." ;)

I'm excited about the IPT and appreciate all of the people who are behind the scenes making it happen, but please don't belittle Jay Helfert. He truly is one of the good guys. He has been, is still today, and will continue to be in the future a prominent figure in American pool. It is unfortunate what happened about the misunderstanding of WHEN the bonus payouts would be made, but, thankfully, the problem has now been remedied. Now, that is a good thing.

See you in Vegas, Wonderlan! :)

He never GOT the money. You say KT is doing this out of "The goodness of his heart"? PAAALEEEESSSEEEE!!!!!

He is marketing a product, nothing in relation to marketing that product is being done out of the goodness of his heart. It is done to further his product's success and increase it's exposure. PERIOD.

Did he get the money yet????????

If you had read this entire thread, you would know that Jay was paid on the 6th of April. In fact, everyone that I know of has been paid. Can we lay this to rest now??
