Is desert iron wood this smelly

I just tried to cut some up and had to stop, come in and wash my clothes. Best I can describe it, it's like you took the bottom of an out house and a spitton and soaked wood in it till they jelled. It might be days till I go back in the shop. Now that my wife knows I can use the washer I could be in real trouble. Oh and I know why they call it IRON wood. My metal cutting blade was smoking and the saw dust looks like rust.

Did I get a bad batch or is it really this nasty.

These are bits and pieces that were found by a creek 30 years ago. Cracks and splits everywhere. I was just tring to salvage something from them.

Larry,
You made me laugh out loud about the washing. I used a little once. I named it "fecal wood". It does have a hell of smell, or at least the piece I had did.

Most all if it smells like cat sh*t but the burly stuff with gold around the eyes is worth the trouble of cutting.

Thanks guys. I know not to ever order any now. If I am going to die from wood poisining, I would rather it be tulip wood!

Hahaha, my first laugh of the day, thanks.

When I first met my wife, I tried to impress her with my cooking skills.
Guess what my main job is in the house after work?
She brings home a bag of groceries, pours a glass of wine and I put on the apron. I'm whooped.

You'd be surprised how many woods are not good for you to breath in. I don't wear a mask as much as I should but I think about it. But stuff like that or spalted woods are rotten and them rotten moldy spores are bad for your insides

I really an surprised that you don't always wear a respirator. I didn't at first an then I turned some cocobolo dymond wood and I coughed and hacked for 3 days. I also band sawed up some purple heart and was sick to my stomach for half a day.

I learned my lesson and I wear it all the time.

be careful

I don't really have any wood allergies. Lucky me. But breathing it into my lungs I'm sure isn't good. I wish I did bc then I'd be more cautious instead I am just lazy
