Is every player top 3 in world?

Everytime I watch these interviews on some local cable channel these guys are always ranked top 3. Danny B was ranked top in the world in his interview and this guy is top 3. Why wouldn't they google to dude first?

Never really heard the name before. I searched on AZ and it looks like top 3 is really stretching!

Max is certainly not in the top 3 in the world; but could DEFINITELY beat any of the top 3 any time they play.

I was fortunate enough to meet and have a meal with Max at DCC this year. I found him to be very pleasant, polite, professional and obviously above average in intellect for a pool player. Best wishes to Max if he reads this (I seem to remember him posting here in the past).

I went to his site. Very artistic.

Max is a multi talented guy. A terrific artist and a good writer. Pool is only one of his best games.

he's also a great artist...

If you get the chance look at some of his artwork.

I've noticed this trend also where everyone is said to be a top player or "World Champion" even though they never won anything resembling a world championship. What's worse is that 20 years from now the legend will grow even more how such and such a player was "invincible"!

I have nothing against Max Eberle, he's a very good player but you'll never hear a discussion of who the top player's in the world are and hear even one person bring up Eberle. Not top 3, not top 10.

This topic reminds of something I was going to bring up the other day. Why is there not more standarization in pool? The rules are always different, 30,000 different sets of rankings, and every tournament calling itself a World Championship. I know this has to do with how much more fragmented pro pool is than golf, but at the very least couldn't someone come up with a standarized world ranking system?

Max is a better player than 98% of us on here at AZBILLIARDS.com. He may not be top 3 in the world but he is definately capable of beating them. Can you? Why does it bother you that someone doing a local TV interview calls him top 3 in the world? Its just for the audience. That is why so many pros either stop or never even start posting on this forum. There is too much negativativy on this forum. It seems like everyone here is a 100 ball runner in 14.1 (sitting behind a computer).

I agree to a point, but lets me realistic here. The truth about something is warranted don't you think? Would you rather google top 10 pool players and get 100 lists of speculation or would you want a realistic answer to your question. Max isn't even top 10! What he is though, is a great teacher of the game and an overall super nice guy. He went to JMU here in VA. and played around these parts back then. Hes done a wonderful job at supporting the sport with his knowlege and writing. But lets not kid ourselves here.... for entertainment value or not...in real life the top 5 run through him like water. Belittling posters here, for having an opinion, whether they can play or not isn't warranted i'm quite sure.

Haha, thanks for that info vagabond. I did end up going to the club, kind of stuffy but hey gave it a shot.

As for the 3rd in the world claim on the video, I told them that I was 3rd in the 2006 World Straigt Pool and ranked 3rd on the 2003 Billiards Digest Power index for a while. ...all true. So they said I was the 3rd ranked player in the world.

I was Ranked 5th on the US pro tour for two consecutive entire years, barely missing the Mosconi Cup because they only invited the top 4, with 2 invites. I was the only player in the world to make the top 4 of three consecutive majors in 2004... To the guy who thinks I need weight from certain players...those players probably actually need weight when it comes down to it... unless they can run more than 196 balls in straight pool on a super tight gold crown 3 with a house cue like I did a couple years ago on table 19 at Hollywood billiards in LA.

So the claim is legitimate. I personally don't like players claiming to be world champion when they clearly have not won a world title either.

Anyway thanks to all who backed me up :)

Really up there

I'm a top three C- player west of the 101 Freeway and east of 303.
(That's the Phoenix area)

Tap tap tap!

There are very knowledgeable people on here, and lambasting someone because they have an opinion is way off-base. They are entitled to their opinion.

I got on Max's website right after it was set up, and even emailed him a few times, and he responded. I found him to be real nice, and talented.

I did ask in the thread trying to get donations for the 14.1 Championships for him what he had won in the past. I think he has won a state Championship(s) before, but reality is reality. I would not put Max in the top 10, maybe in the top 30 or 40, but that is all.

What place did he rank in the 14.1 Championships, BTW?

Sweet. You should go on the road.

Classic line

Good people are missing out if they see Max and don't take time to say hello.

Pool junkies are missing out if they don't say hello. I talked with him for 5 minutes and he was showing me a few things about pool for free that he probably charges a good price.

The book "Zen pool" for those that don't know is a series of short articles. The only problem some might have with the book is you have to know a little before you realize the pearls of wisdom.
