Is Shane Really ***THAT GOOD*** ? ?

Buy the TAR DVDs of Shane playing Deuel. It's fantastic pool, and Grady and Billy's commentary complements it well.

Then get the Accustats DVDs of Shane winning the US Open. In particular his matchups against Ronnie Alcano (Shane wins both times, obviously).

Phenomenal player.

Svb

I saw Shane play in person at the 2007 US Open and he went undefeated to win the most prestigious 9 ball tournament in the world. Ronnie Alcano was the current World 9 Ball Champion and Shane beat him twice and the second time was in the US Open Finals. Shane is the "REAL DEAL".

Against Alcano especially, some of Shane's runouts were tough!

I didnt read the other replys in this thread,

But from what I have seen over the past 23 years of other players comming up and going down, I havent seen one like SVB except Archer-off the top of my head, i'm sure there are others, yes he is that good, Now has he stood the test of time like Reyes, Archer, Ralf....no. However I do believe that he will. I know him we speak once a month on the phone and see each other around and I dont see the habits that cut alot of pool players short...drugs, booze, bad relationships etc. He has his head on straight, a great family for support and alot of people like myself that would kick him in the nuts if he did something wrong. Seriously he has everything going for him, dicipline, talent, support, a great work ethic, dedication, zero bad habits, no distractions.

The only thing that could screw him up is his ego if the fame, $$$ etc. goes to his head and I dont see that happening. He has the respect of his peers(the other pro's) thats something that isnt talked about much here but thats important too. Its not talked about much because its not well known out side the pro circles. Hell I didnt know about that a year ago-i'm far from being a pro, just met a few and listened is how I learned about that. but back to SVB...

Yes, he is the chosen one and will be for along time. I see no reason he wont be for along time. he will be a top 5 player for the next 20 years if he wants to.

The scary thing is, as good as everyone makes him out to be, he is actually much better than that.

Your right in about 3 more years he is gonna be impossible to beat, he still needs a bit of seasoning, perhaps 2 years nobody will have a shot-they might not now but after a couple more years forget about it.

Is it just on my computer or do others have trouble with propoolvideos freezing? Whenever I try to watch a match it freezes every 15-20 seconds. Annoys the hell out of me.

If you wait until it downloads about 2/3 of the way and then move the slider back to the start of the video. You can watch it seamlessly while it finishes downloading.

In an interview with TAR, Scooter was asked "What is it like playing Shane?"

His response was classic:
"Have you ever racked before; that's what it is like playing Shane."

Scooter also went on to say that Shane spears in balls only a handful of people would even try to make.

Good story.
Also, I think that Shane is one of maybe a handful of active pros who also have the "fear factor" working for them. Guys are afraid to miss and his reputation as a killer is definitley getting into peoples heads.
He is a phenom for sure!

I played Shane

This past Thanksgiving I was TDY in Rapid City SD, for an Air Force MRT team to repair a broken plane. While there I got to meet Shane and spent three days playing pool with him. I really improved my Racking skills. Over three days I won maybe twelve games. mostly due to the pressure that I knew if I missed that was the game. I played what I thought were pretty good safes that most of the guys I normally play would miss or still leave me a shot. and Shane would either find the safe or make it. All I can say is get used to seeing him around and hearing of his wins for a long time. This guy has a plan and he intends to stick with it he'll be playing pool for the next 30 years.

P.S. Thanks for the Chance of a Life time Shane, Look forward to seeing you again .

Shane really is the real deal. The only time I have seen him "off" was watching the DCC when he was gambling, and was extremely tired. Even then he still played great by any standards.

I have always been hoping that someone would match him up in a long race vs Yang or Orcullo.

A question to everyone, if he was to play a race to 60 10-ball against the two I named above, would you bet on him or the other two? This would be the match of the decade between the 3 of them IMO.

Yang's biggest asset is his 9 ball break, he wouldn't even dare touch 10 ball with a 10 foot pole. It will be Shane by a comfortable mile. Against Dennis, it's a toss-up.

yes, he is...

I'll second this! If he continues to work on his game and remains motivated, the sky is the limit for Shane. He has already had several very impressive wins in his young career. Longevity is the real test of greatness though.

I will say this, the way Shane played with Ronnie Alcano in the "hot seat" match at last years U.S. Open, was as good as I've ever seen anyone play in a tournament. Shane just kept coming with big shot after big shot on some very tough equipment. He didn't miss and he never let up. It was an awesome display of great pool playing. If you were going to buy one 9-Ball match from Accu-Stats, this is the one I would recommend.

I was at the tournament and I watched it live and I have the DVD of the match and it's a match that you don't mind watching again and again. Jay, I enjoyed your inputs to the commentary during the match also. I would recommend anyone who likes 9 ball to buy a copy of that match from Accu-stats. It's great from the beginning to the end.

I'm sorry, but he is a nut case!

cuetechasaurus,
I agree with gopi-1 about SVB vs Yang. Yang is a 9 ball specialist.

As for Dennis, I've seen that although he is definitely one of the top guns in the world, he's more of a streaky player than most others at his level.
SVB seems to me to play every game at a consistantly very high level.

As for your question, I would think SVB vs Yang in 10 ball would have Shane winning 60-40 as Yang is no slouch, and Shane also beating Orcullo 60-(52-55) range.

Not just because he's an American, but I feel that SVB has to be the favorite right now in any 9 ball or 10 ball match up against anyone in the world.

Off the subject slightly, I think the next dominant world class player is going to be Pin-Yi Ko. I look forward to him and Shane battling it out many times in the future. Chia Ching Wu should also be a monster player for a long time to come as well.

IT's a problem that develops in the browser....

If you completely close out of your browser and then reopen it, then it should work again. Atleast it has for me.
