Is the SBX for pool players or just a money making extravaganza?

Demeans the sport ,, ROALMAO,, that's pretty funny chit right thier ,, Just when did pool have a silver image to tarnish ,, its pool not golf ,,
You do realize the name of the event is Super Billiards Expo ,,,,

You're right, pool struggles with image and this reminded me of a flea market with some pool events. You're also right, the name EXPO indicates it's not a invitational high end, classy Pro Players event, it is what it is. I was more disappointed with the diorganization of it and the costs associated with everything.

This is the same time and location as Montco/Bucks APA Tri-Cup/Cities. Always a fun time.

Few years ago Charles Barkley paid for the bar in the casino to be open for about 30 minutes. Don't remember much after that.

So if you need a room at the casino get it quick, it will be sold out.

I heard you swatted the first drink you were served away and gave Barkley the Mutombo finger shake.

You should bankroll this kind of show yourself! Maybe you could improve on it. As far as the money making extravaganza most vendors LOSE serious money being there. I did it for reals for 9 years--I sell way more staying home.

I'm sure most do. I seen some booths that I couldn't figure out how they could make up the $1300 rent. And others like Omega make a killing with multiple booths but with 4 days of steady sales.

The money making I was referring to was for Allen Hopkins Productions, not the vendors. Unless the Expo charges Allen a boatload for the facility, we did the math on the entry fees of all this years entrants, minus the prize money plus all the vendors and how many booths they had and the rents associated. The numbers are large and I guess all I was saying was, I guess I had the wrong impression of the event. I wish Allen well and I hope he makes a gazillion dollars doing what he's doing. People attend, appear to enjoy it, it's just not for me.

I've said it before and I will say it again. Allen can make as much money as possible and it's all good with me. This is America and we can all vote with our wallets and feet. I've stopped going but not because of anything posted. My problem is, I LOVED the old venue and it just ain't the same for me. Nothing they could do about it. No ones fault. It is what it is. I think for me, I will start attending the Turning Stone once a year as it's closer and more fun for the wife :)
Long live the Expo and kudos to the Hopkins for putting it on each and every year.

Pool is the only game where cheap people like you think Allen shouldn't make a profit for a years worth of work. I'm sure you probobly think the staff should work 4 days with little sleep out of the goodness of there heart. It's people like you that our ruining the game. You don't see this with any other game. People our happy someone organized something this big and don't worry about if oh my god the director actually made money!! God help us lol do you have any idea what it costs to rent that expo center? Pay the people working there? The insurance? The table rental? Renting the carpet every one wanted? The list goes on in costs I'm sure we aren't aware of.

Am I the only one annoyed about paying $10 to get back into the main area after midnight each night, having already paid $100 for the Amateur event and getting the 4-day pass?

Honestly, I'm a liar.

I thought that was annoying as well. I simply was trying to find someone so I could leave that night and it cost me $10.

In the past they posted, but didn't enforce charging $10. Pit is still free.

Put $10 in perspective, I think that's what I spent for a burger with fries and drink at Wendy's on Egypt Road.

Loved it, Loved it, Loved it.
Long live SBE!!!!

On a final note I have learned that criticism is not a solution.

It can help sometimes.
I criticized Allen last year for not having VIP seating in the Pro Arena.
This year VIP was back.
I sought Allen out and thanked him this year.

Also mentioned to him about how back at V. Forge they reconfigured the stands for the Pro finals. (Stands on all sides. Or at least 3)
He said they might be doing that in the future.

You tell the truth. Hope Allen makes a fortune on this event. Just think if he could find a location in Las Vegas and ran a second event in November. I'm drooling. Well, I'm really old. Old enough to be a "Stupid Senior" . The drool might just be old age :thud: .

Lyn

Hi Lyn, hope you're well.

With casinos popping up all over NYS I say to hell with Vegas !
Hopkins should contact some of them.

I think they had a record # of people on weds & weren't expecting it to be that crazy. Geezer, even the warm up tourney had like 840 players, just insane.

I actually didn't think the food vendors were too bad. I gave someone a $20 to get me a hot dog, pretzel & bottle of soda & got $10 change.

How come the west coast tournaments such as Hard Times would barely have maybe 50-60 players and at the SBE, theres 1000.

Is it b/c HT is on the big table??

Your $10!bought you he ability to play on open tables for free. Good deal, imho. The Derby (rightly) requires coins ($5 per hour, I think) to play on the tables for fun or action. Would you feel better if they didn't charge the fee and instead turned on the tables to require coins?

Great seeing you at SBE. Isn't it amazing how people with no inside information know exactly how much money a retailer makes. Wonder how many dollars in sales it costs Michael just to cover transportation costs from Texas let alone the booth rental. Lets add in the hotel rooms for his staff. Food for the staff. Yep, I'm sure he made a killing. NOT!

My apologies for not being so grammatically correct. It originally said 2007 Joss Northeast Custom, which was a beautiful 1/1 custom cue Dan Janes created for the final event of his 2007 Joss Northeast 9ball tour. I just happen to win the cue in a raffle. I ran out of characters in my signature, I'll try and clean that up, thanks.
