Is this an old JOSS??

Here's a cue I stumbled upon that I was hoping some experts here could give me some info/verification. I was told it is an old JOSS from the mid 70's that was ordered from a player in Fort Wayne. It has an ivory joint and no Joss logo. Only reason I ask is because all the old Joss cues I've seen from that era have had JOSS written in block letters on the butt cap, although the ringwork does match the style I've seen used on Joss' from that timeline. it's a JOSS!

i have an identical cue and there are a few on the web here and there with some showing clearly "JOSS" on the buttsleeve. on mine joss is very faint and hard to see but it is there. thick venners on mine, four points, 3/8 x10 joint, ebony sleeve.
 
Looks like one to me, but I'm no expert. What sometimes happened, especially with old Joss', is that the butt cap would be cleaned up and the logo would be removed. That did happen to me with one older Joss. I was very unhappy when I got it back.

Thanks for the info Jay. I've never seen it, but I've heard about that happening before to old Joss', and Schon's too surprisingly. Apparently the etching of their old logo's in the delrin butt caps wasn't very deep, or not as deep as it is now.

everything looks right for it to be a 68-72 joss

point length, butt length, buttcap material, the pin, and the rings. Measurements of those area would help me be more sure, but just from pics, it looks right.

Well -

I think it might actually be a Josswest. I have, I think the exact same ringwork on my Josswest. I just got it back from Bill Stroud, and he said mine was very early 1970's with the JW with the sideways W.

Check out this ring work!

Definitely looks like one. I remember one very similar but with a steel joint.

I think the ring work on yours is different, looks wider to me and I've seen both styles in person.
 
Compare the thickness of the white rings......the joss ones are a hair thinner. Also, look at the length of the buttsleeve on your jw, it's longer than the joss. Like i said before, measurements of certain areas would be the key to knowing. I also wish his pic of the pin was better. The joss and jw pins are different.

EDITED TO ADD..... THE MAPLE BLOCKS ON THE JW ARE MORE SQUARE THAN THE JOSS BLOCKS. (THE PROPORTIONS ARE DIFFERENT.

My first thought was Joss West before I read the rest of the thread. I'd probably ask Dan Janes or Bill Stroud.

I know in this part of indiana both JW and Joss were pretty popular in that time period.

I agree that it looks like an old (68-72era) Joss. Back when Stroud-Janes-Scruggs were together.

I have one that looks identical. I have 3 original shafts. Is it 57"?

My money says it is real and NOT a Joss West.

I used to own a cue exactly like that one, and it was a '72 Bill Stroud.

The butt cap had been replaced and there was no logo nor insignia.

Is the handle / butt a little thicker than modern Joss cues? Mine was. I think all Stroud's cues were back then.
