Is this table too tight?

I have played on many tables even the newer diamonds. My table is the tightest table, other than a tight dufferin snooker table that I have played.

Do you guys think this is too tight. You have to hit a shot perfect and I mean perfect along the rail. Even balls a foot from rail hitting side of pocket will not drop.

I posted in a straight pool thread on Marop's 65 run. It came across as rude, not intention, when I stated his run would have ended before it started. He might have shot 6 on my table. I though his pockets must have been 6" based on balls fell into the pocket. I see from another posters picture the pockets are like 4 1/2".
 
Yes, too tight IMO. Is that at all fun to play on? There is a point of tough conditions, but IMO a point where things go too far.
 
I play on one that appears to be tighter. Acts just the same tho!

Could just be bad shape of the openings. Need to see balls in mouth.

I would like to break something everytime I play on it. Confidence is hard to build on this table. My high straigh run is 57, 9 ball is a 5 pack. 8 ball I'm not sure, 3 for sure. To move around the table you need big angles to slow roll with tons of spin to move CB. Any force, toast. I thought this would be good for potting and making tournament tables easy. I think it is a little extreme though.
 
Um, I'm sure it plays great for snooker -- but realistically, pool is designed to have larger pockets than that. Pool is a shooting game and if you can't pocket that ball at that speed because the pockets are too tight, then it changes the whole game.

I'm all for tight pockets, and prefer to play one-pocket on 4" pockets. But as shown in your video, I think your pockets are just too tight if that ball won't fall. Stick to pyramid if you want insanely tight pockets.

Opening is 4 3/4. balls go in about 1/2" and wedge. Its about 3 3/4 at back. I can't imagine playing a tighter table. It would make me sick.

Yeah same here that table is waaaaay to tight , I mean it's always good to have a tight table like a women but not to tight lol .

The angle of the facing is wrong...ask RKC for proper angles. The one I play on (rarely!) won't fit 2 balls in the mouth, and no, you cannot force an angle there either!

Guy gotta have a good angle...

I believe what you have there might be a 'gaff' table.
 
I hear Jason has an open door policy to play at his place for AZers. I was planning to be in his neck of the woods, but then I saw this video. Instead I went to the dentist and had 3 root canals without anesthesia.

That looks too brutal! It might change your game on all tables, perhaps not all of it for the better.
 
If you played inside english on the cue ball, instead of the outside english you're showing in the video, the cue ball would go in everytime. But because of the outside spin on the cue ball you're shooting it with, it causes the cue ball to bank across the pocket into the opposite facing then back out of the pocket. Learn how to play pool;) Sroking your own ego there a little, 4 3/8" pockets are NOT tight, try playing on the Diamond 9ft ProAm at the Golden Fleece in Kenmore, WA...it has 3 7/8" corner pocket...combined with the Diamond deep shelf slate!

I used to see a lot of tables with old facings that are bad, as in worn out, cracked, or broken some way so that they are concave. They can really spit balls out. Do you know that the facings are actually flat?

IMO that ball should go in regardless of the english.

That was middle ball hit. they are 3/4" not 3/8. I have played on diamond tables and they area easier. show me how to put than inside on the object ball and I will gladly do so! I used the CB so I could just miss the ball blocking the pocket. Potting a ball is the same.
 
it looks like the pockets are not that tight from in front but have been cut like a pool table which is why they wont go in down the rail, just a table that the pockets that been buthered

Too tight for what? For straight pool high runs or for high dollar one pocket games?

IMO, the pockets look about right for everything except televised straight pool.

Steve Lomako made mention that he was expecting you to be at Derby. Was that comment made in jest or are you making the trip stateside?
 
My table does the same thing! Olhausen with 1/2" tightened pockets. Olhausen's do this even with the pockets stock. I may have missed it but what brand table is this?

All I can say guys...is correct pocket angles and correct facings will make any table play better;)
 
My table has pockets like that and I like it better. It forces you to concentrate on aiming for the center of the pocket and getting the most out of your stroke.
