I've heard Mr. Bill Stroud is

I know a former pro player and he mentioned playing Bill. He was an excellent player, much better than probably 99 percent of the players on this site.

His cues are so well known, and so highly regarded, that only an idiot would claim they are not quality.

Yes i said ! Guess u didnt read! Bill stroud couldnt play a lick! His sticks are mediocer at best! Gary medlin in lake charles makes the best cues in the country for the money! Stroud was never a good player! Me and robert newkirk went to shreve to play him some 9 ball one pocket any game he looked like he'd seen a ghost! Yea i said it!

I feel bad for GEM cues if you are their marketing guru.
Gary Medlin should try and distance himself from you before his name is damaged.
Although you seem to have Bill Stroud confused with someone else, your comments are irresponsible and disrespectful.

Thanks for clarifying everything you say by adding "yea I said it" every time you say something negative, otherwise
I wouldn't of believed you said it, even though you actually said it.

I can't say how he plays today, but he played pretty sporty when I first knew him back in 1963. By the time I left to go back to college in 1964, Billy was generally acknowledged to be the best 9-Ball player in Dallas. I bought a cue from him in 1980 (the cue was $200 with two shafts and I paid another $50 for a Fellini case) and it was one of the best playing cues I have owned. Unfortunately, the cue was stolen about a year after I bought it. I've never heard anyone say they paid for a cue from him and not gotten the cue.

Bill,

I have a new Diamond with pro cue pockets and am playing 8 hours a day.
Playing pretty good. Lots of 10's and 12's and out.

Playing 9 and 10 ball really good.

You will see me at the Diamond tournament this year.

Not working on cues much.

Bill

Nice to hear you got a table in. Hope it gets you the practice you have been hoping for. Will have to stop in & see it, show you how it's supposed to be used ... ;) Best regards

Glad to hear you still enjoy the game. I play an hour or so a day and not much better than back in 1963, so you could give me about 8 to 4 and the break. Alfie finally got a book put together, but is still looking for a publisher or literary agent. Which reminds me, you're an obvious candidate for doing a book yourself.

Dam mabe my plain jane JW and 4 point eurowest will go up in value:smile:

as for the sound of the hit the one the guy on drugs is referring to its a ping and some people love and seek that sound and they have always been known as good players,,
u can put all the art in a cue u want but without playability u dont last long , and just how many decades has bill been building cues,, it speaks for its self

His cues all had a blunt sound to them because when he put in the butt screw he had a small gap from the wood to the screw and when u hit with it it had a hollow sound! Sparky

I'm really not sure about the type of hit you prefer but I've had the pleasure of hitting a few balls with Bills cues and I liked it very much. I'm not a man of great means or I would own one of Bills cues as well. Instead I choose to own one of his former business partner's cues Dan Janes. If you really knew anything about cue makers the history and the response from the market, you would know that Dan chose to manufacture affordable cues to a larger market and Bill chose to continue the time honored legion of the independent "one of " cue makers.

Now I'm very proud to own a cue made by Dan and would be equally proud to own one made by Bill as well or Tim Scruggs whom also spent some time with Dan before offering his talent to the world of cue making independently. There are lots of great cue makers to many to mention but I'll offer some action that Bills name appears in the ACA hall of fame in the future. nuff said.

My friend speaks very highly of West cues. This guy intentionally tweaks his playing cue to charge him...if he plays bad. Imagine that. Funny guy huh? Maybe he's just messing with me. But he was serious when he said I wasn't ready for a real cue a few years ago. He's probably worried I might treat it bad cuz I'm kinda clumsy. Why else? (I'm the best player in the world.....shhh). J/k. I'll play good enough one day. I'll hunt you down Mr. Bill Strouds.

Joss West, Bill Stroud.

I think maybe you are confusing Bill Stroud with Bill Schick.

maidenfreak...Well said. My first custom cue was one of Bill's, and I took off the mighty (albeit youngster) McCready with it (ONCE...LOL). The only real custom cue I have ever designed and had contracted to be built specially for me was also done by Bill. When it came time to sell a prized cue to buy my APA franchise (20 yrs ago), I sold my Balabushka and KEPT my JW custom! LOL Bill always referred to me as "the guy who sold a Balabushka, to keep a Josswest!" LOL Anyone who thinks Bill Stroud can't play now, or even worse, never could play, is an idiot...and just plain wrong. Good for Bill getting back into playing again. I hope it brings him the same kind of love and enjoyment that creating beautiful and functional cues did for many decades!

edit...I see that Bill did post in this thread already, before I read it. Good luck Bill and hope to see you in the finals at the DCC! I always thought it was SO wierd that people who didn't know better, called Bill's cues "Josh West"! LOL

Now I really don't care if Bill can shoot pool anymore or if he ever could but trashing a master cue makers work is where I draw the line. I owned one of Gary's "Gem" cues and I was not impressed. I used it as a break cue until I finally gave it away because the value of his cues are horrible once purchased. Comparing a Gem cue to one of Bill's is like comparing a hyundai to a ferrari. You are apparently an idiot so I won't go on as you may not be able to comprehend some of what I want to say. Go back to fairy land, I will supply the fairy dust. You are a true tool.

stroud cues

Your absolutly right my memory was flawed! Its been almost 40 yrs. I talked to 2 of my old friends that u also know! Steve moore and alfie taylor. Both are in tucson. It came to my attention that the cue maker i was thinking about was bill schiek "billy" from sreveport.la. My apology ! Very sorry! Im old school and i played rather well myself! Broke even with st louie. Louie in 1970 in dallas! Dick lane reminded me that it was billy schick that was the cuemaker i was thinking about! So sorry for my memory loss! Apologize once again! Sparky

Sparky...Okay, now say 10 Hail Marys, and you're forgiven! LOL :D

Even though you perhaps may not have liked the "hit" of Schick's cues, it doesn't take away from his incredible art skills as a cuemaker...and many others will swear by the hit of a Schick. Like Stroud, Bill Schick is a living legend cuemaker. It is also true, that there were, and are today, lots of great cuemakers who don't play at a high level. Bill Stroud is certainly NOT one of those.

As for your friend paying for a cue he did not get...I can't speak to that. I will say that if it happened, it didn't happen very often...or people would know about it, and Bill Schick would have a reputation as such. Not calling you a liar. Just saying that there's always more to the story.

Just to clear up the buyer was jr. Norris! He paid for the cue in 1970 or 71! Never got it.

Sparky...Hell that was 40 years ago! LOL Junior's order could have gotten lost...or maybe Bill Schick just forgot! Geez we were all smokin' a LOT of herb back in those days! Now say those hail mary's and I'll transform you back to GREEN! LOL

mark,

perhaps you have confused me with another cuemaker from louisiana?
I have never played pool in shreveport. Never in new orleans or lake charles?

No one has ever paid for a cue of mine and not received it.

Check your facts.

Bill stroud

lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
