I think the punishment on poachers is not severe enough and that's why it's still going on but that's my opinion.
Gun control will not cure terror in Cali either but that does not matter.
No it dosnt however it does save lives by limiting access .. Iv been in more than one place where some drunk or high person was trying to buy a gun and could not because he had to have a nix check first the ignorant people think he could run out and find one on the street hardly the case even if it took hours instead of days or weeks many of them who were acting on impulse would rethink their actions you would have to be a fool to think that doesn't save lives

Maybe clean up Bmore, waiting periods should be mandatory 3 days IMHO, if you cannot schedule your valid huntin that time you have bad intentions.

Overly idealistic. Just like the ivory ban.

Maybe, but it will save lives. As I said, that is overly idealistic. In other words likely not true. Sane people make bad decisions in the heat of the moment, if you deny that, you are not realistic. An excellent example is the knee jerk gun control measures after a shooting. Nobody needs a gun right now, unless they have bad intentions or are afraid of someone else with a gun. Did you make this up on your own or read it on the internet? I believe the statement is patently false.

I fail to grasp the logic of how making it illegal to sell something legal purchased (in the United States) as well as antiquities containing ivory will reduce poaching.
There is no way to tell legal ivory from illegal ivory. None. It looks the same, cuts the same, carves the same, etc. .
I don't a dog in this fight. (The total amount of ivory across my entire collection total an ivory joint a probably 5 ferrules.) I just find it unbelievable that yesterday something that was legal to purchase and own is today declared illegal.
No one is advocating poaching or killing elephants purely for their tusks but making something that was legal, illegal to trade, when it has been illegal to import ivory since 1989, is not going to do one thing to reduce poaching.
At this point I fear the thread is in danger of being moved to NPR.
Ivory and pool cues seems to be the topic. And I think it's a good one.
Unless we want to talk about General Patton's ivory-handled revolvers I think we are straying a bit too far.
Yes, my personal thought, nobody needs a gun right now. If you fear for your life, contact law enforcement. If you can't wait three days to hunt or target practice you need to schedule better or get mental help!
Tell that to battered wives or stalked women.
The police has no legal duty to protect you.
That was the ruling when cops were sued after the LA riots.
They have to duty to protect the community and they can use that argument in not protecting individuals.
Some people need a gun immediately if threatened or have stalkers .
In Nazifornia, you have to wait two weeks. You might be dead by then.
There needs to be a national database that can be contacted and have clearance within minutes unless one has a very common name .
