Ivory Ban

I Don't know...:p wouldn't want to take my nice cues with ivory there to do some dealing and pull one out and have it confiscated...they could set up a sting operation and take a ton of cues at the show

They couldnt do anything unless something was about to change hands is the way I understand it. Unless I read all that wrong its not illegal to transport anything, say to a show or exhibit right? Whats the legality on pawning a cue with ivory in it? For instance, if someone says "I got this ivory jointed Szamboti would you load me $10K on it for a while" I guess after the time is up the feds are knocking on your door with the paddy wagon out front.....:D

Let's cross that bridge if/when we get to it.

In the mean time, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for people lighten up on boldly advertising ivory content in cues on this forum. I mean, we all saw how everybody circumvented the ivory situation on eBay awhile back by referring to it as "exotic" or "natural". I know it's not ideal but if this thing actually goes through, we're all going to have to change how we deal with it.

And concerning SBE dealers... If someone shows up asking all sorts of crazy questions about whether something is or isn't ivory, it should be a pretty big red flag. Let's face it, the vast majority if people looking to purchase a cue at a show with ivory in it are going to be able to tell what is or isn't ivory just by looking at it.

Everyone is going to have to change their behavior when it comes to how they deal with ivory and cues containing it. We might as well start now.

Why don't we call it what it really is"material ripped out of the head of a slaughtered animal just so you can brag about it". Disgusting is what it is.
Flame away.

It is not law yet. Even when it becomes law you can still build Ivory cues as long as you sell them within your own state. Sale of Ivory will only be banned across state lines. That is all the information is telling us at this time.

Just start calling it "white stuff". So if you're SBE for example, a proper question would be "Does your cue have that white stuff in it?" Now no one will find out what we're dealing.

Its not law yet so that show is okay. When its passed ,then sales have to be within the state. Thanks Obama for suggesting a law which will do nothing to solve the elephant plight and will make it illegal to sell my personal property. Mr. president, please put the heat on china where it could do some good.

I love elephants, too. And, for me, ivory adds no value to a pool cue. However, there needs to be some sort of official way to document current pieces (pool cues as well as antiques) that contain ivory. It's just not right to, basically, destroy the cash value of items that were obtained prior to this law.

A system like this would not only prevent the legal production and sale of ivory pieces after X date, it would, most likely, dramatically increase the value of legitimate ivory items produced before that date.

Grammatical error...

Call it what you want, but allowing hunters to kill 2 elephants a year just sounds like everything else. Gear the laws towards people that are "well to do". I don't know of anyone "barely making it" that are planning a trip to Africa for sniping elephants.

If the elephant dies, do as you will. To poach just for tusks, skin, etc. just bothers me to think about it.

The hypocrisy of it all. They want to save the Elephants but it is OK to go and kill one if you have $40,000 Dollars to give them. Now who is benefiting from killing an Elephant? Some government, that is who!!!!!!!!!!

+1 Rtoron is right.
The corrupt governments in Asia for instance are the ones confiscating the ivory from the poachers and then they auction it off to big international buyers. We aren't getting our ivory directly from the poachers or "big game hunters".Just my 2 cents.

That makes it sound like a drug deal......i.e.

"Hey aqua, man i gotta have the good white stuff. Hey does anyone know if aqua has anymore of that white stuff? Im sure he does. Last time I talked to him, he had plenty of white stuff."

Instead of the ivory police, the DEA might come knocking. Lol.

I guess it's time to sell this "White Material" LOADED Carmeli cue ...
