Go read the inner game of tennis....it'll help your pool and could give you more insight as to how and why you view the things you do the way ya do.

Death is neither good nor bad....it is just a name we gave to a natural event that has happened with us and will happen without us.

Experiment with diffrent ferrules in diffrent configurations, find the ferrule you like and stick with it. By the way welcome to AZ.

1 re: your question - FWIW I have played with ivory ferrules for a few decades, not always, and not exclusively. IMHO, and it is my humble
opinion only, N-O-N-E of the synthetics even vaguely resemble the hit
of an ivory ferrule. Tho many hit plenty good in their own way.
If I understood your question, you were wanting a substitute to put
on a cue intended to sell at a modest price - not one for your own use.
Either way - it ain't out there.

I am carnivorous as are most people. I see no reason for not using legal ivory or any other banned material that happens to be legal through circumstances. There has been, in the past, a couple of people come onto this forum for no other reason than to start an argument about the use of ivory and to just push their agenda and I have come down on them hard and relentlessly for it. There are other, knowledgeable people on this forum, whom may not be vegetarians, but still don't believe in the use of ivory for decorations in cues. This is their personal opinions and they certainly are entitled to them. They have let people know how they feel but they haven't been condescending nor critical of those whom do use it. KJ comes to mind. Heaven knows he seldom slams anyone over non agreement with his personal opinions. I feel this thread was started in the same light. Mr. 84 never came in here posting any opinions that I would construe as looking to start an argument. He asked a question on cue construction, which is what this forum is supposedly for, and then he was asked questions that started all of this. It's true he may have had an arterial motive for asking the question just to have this discussion brought to bare, as I feel he already should have none the answer since being around cue construction since he was a baby but new products are always coming out and there could be something new available with those attributes so he certainly deserves the benefit of doubt for posting the question. I also feel he may have just asked it to fit in and not act like he knows everything. At any rate, he is entitled to his opinions and doesn't deserve this slamming over such a simple question. Now, of coarse, this is just my opinion.

Ok here's my input I have a natural substitute that is exclusive to my cues only. I do not believe that there are any cuemakers ( that I know of or have researched) use my material. It is not man made but hits just as good or very very close, but then again it depends on the ivory you want to imitate. I don't want to post what it is. I can install it for you on your cue but it costs. It is very rare and found on only a couple countries and takes years for it to form. But like I said I can install it but I won't sell it in raw form nor will I post what it is.

Tagua nuts have a hollow center and or cracked. But you can try it.
You can ask Hollywood he might be willing to confirm that they are not tugua nut.
