ivory pool ball info needed

I met a very nice young man named Paul today and we were talking pool when he informed me that he has a set of pure ivory pool balls. A complete set of 15 plus the cue ball. He asked me if i knew what they were worth and where would be the best place to sell them. I told him i had no idea as to the value but that i would check here hoping someone could give me some valid info as to there value. So any info would be greatly appreciated. And yes they will be for sale if the price is right.......thanks for letting me post this.....................mike
 
ivory balls are getting scarce these days, i don't
know the value but i am interested in buying a set

Can you post some photo's, are they ingraved with numbers, what size are they, do they have any color's that can still be seen or are they all white?

Photo's would help.
 
I'm looking forward to a couple pictures.

Usually the only pictures of these are in BKs-- Since the posters have said worth Gold- name your own price. Please post some pictures for all to see. mark
 
Well like anything else the price is determined by a few things.

1. Make sure the entire set is ivory.
2. Examine the set thoroughly and determine a grading system.
e.g. Usually 1-10 will suffice with 1 being damaged and 10 mint.
3. Market value is like anything else. Something is only worth what another person is willing to pay for it. Typical valuations will for a set rated as damaged or incomplete could sell for $500-1500. A set that is determined to be in mint (10) condition could sell upwards of $5,000-10,000 or higher to the correct buyer.

I had a fair (4) condition set I acquired at an Estate sale five years back. I bought them at auction for $630.00 and sold them to a collector in Texas for a little under $4,000.

As I said above, make sure the set is ivory. Full fifteen ball Ivory sets are very rare these days and if you have a chance to get your hands on some for a decent price, do it!

Ive seen complete sets in useable condition go from 2500 to 15000 bucks. List them on ebay or here, there are some serious collectors on both sites.
 
I've own many ivory balls over the years. This set is the best.

Dang it Rob! Please give us a warning next time. I just spit Pepsi all over my monitor and almost choked... Those would look great in my old wooden Hyatt box. I'll give you $200 cash right now.

Sorry Troy. Somebody offered me $300.00 so I sold them.:wink:
 
I want a full set badly, anyone want to trade for some nice high end cues?:thumbup:
