Congrats to Johnny Archer on his Seminole Tour win in GA. The man is like a Timex watcth...he just keeps on ticking. Johnnyt

True. He didn't do much of the lint picking and other stuff until the finals match. I think I have figured out why he does it. It is a self regulating mechanism he uses to keep focused on the table and relieve pressure.

I've heard people speculate that it some sort of a compulsive disorder. I disagree with that assessment. He uses it to stay focused and avoid being sharked by distractions. He locks himself into his own world.

I'd like to hear a 2nd opinion on that lol. Weather it is on purpose or compulsive it sure as hell has to shark the hell out of the other player. Hell it sharks me from my computer. Johnnyt

He's got me doing it !! lol

His play is unconscious 'cause he's conscious oriented

Johnny fluked in another tournament? He must be the luckiest dude on the planet. ;)

Anyway - Why he lint picks?

I spoke with him on the phone for a while a couple weeks ago. I know him a little bit. Anyway, a good friend of his and mine (AZ's "Fat Albert", Wayne)told Johnny I'd just taken a difficult beatdown on a money match. Wayne passed the phone over to me and Johnny offered genuine insight and encouragement.

He discussed how players should sometimes slow things down, NOT to shark an opponent, but to grind out the best you can until you better get your comfort level and rhythm. IMO, that the slower grind play may adversely affect the opponent - that's a side affect, but that is not the intention. I suspect his lint picking ways are attributable to him grinding many matches over the years, and helps him execute the next shot with better focus. When he's rhythmically zoned, I bet he picks a lot less...

Everybody is different as to what makes them perform better. I think Johnny leans more than others on the conscious than the subconsious (if you know what I mean).

CONGRATS TO JOHNNY!!! (and if you're reading this, thanks again for the pep talk!)

From the horses mouth, he told me that alot of the time he doesn't even realize he is picking the lint. Like someone else sais he is just focusing and grinding. Seem to work though eh?

The lint picking is all good. What I've always wondered about is why he pulls balls out of pockets & puts them into other pockets and he's not even shooting at either of those pockets. He did this several times against Toasty.

Congratulations to Johnny

I was there and left when he was punishing Clint McClough it was boring me to tears. Now don't get me wrong I like Johnny Archer he is a fantastic guy and plays perfect pool (in between picking lint) but the matches were just boring. I should have went and got a table and played with Chip Klien instead, it probably would have been more entertaining and I would have learned something. I meet Chip for the first time and we just started talking and he is a great guy and really knowledgeable about pool. I hate that I missed the opportunity to play some pool with him. Congratulations to Johnny though.

I heard that he takes balls out of the pocket he's shooting over cuz the lights shine off them.

i know alot about the lint picking, i have talked to him many times about it, he plays better when he dosent pick lint(as a rule) unless its really there. I cant and wont put any more biz in the streets-but all the speculation in this thread so far is wrong, that I know.

His son is going to b kicking Chuck Norris's ass in about 3 more years, he is 7 and just got promoted again in Karate, I thought it was a belt factory karate school. It isnt, the kid has his dads lazer focus and concentration. The apple didnt fall far from the tree. I love that boy, if he decides to play pool he is gonna retire Shane, LOL

Strong as Death

If I could ever, EVER hit a ball as good as he did the 3 in that last set, 10th rack, after walking around, cleaning rails, walking, cleaning...almost 9 feet, from on the rail, a nearly 90^ cut for great shape on the 4...well, I'd break out a dust-buster, a brush, and maybe a magnifying glass (just to be sure) on every shot, if that's what it took.

That and Hohmann's 2-ball in the rack before? Those two shots were worth the drive as far as I'm concerned. Outstanding.

I watched the live stream last night and he shot out of his mind. He was in the zone last night no doubt about it. Its always good to see him win.

I have only played JA 3 times(our friendship isnt about pool, thus we dont talk much pool), however I have racked for him 1000's of rackes(or real close to it, at least it feels that way probably 500 racks is the real number). So I have had the privlage to be right next to the table when he is playing-usally getting ready to play a match, I have seen him hit some balls so clean and pretty it makes me tingle, not awalys hard shots, some easy. But just how good he hits some shots so clean and percise is amazing. Its kind of hard to express it in words, I can shot the same shot hit the cetner of the pocket same speed etc, but it dosent look as pretty or natural .Efren can hit balls that way too. I have seen myself hit the occasional ball like that but its rare, i'm sure we all do, but JA does it more often. It dosent happen every shot, just sometimes, and I wonder why. I just believe JA was born to play pool, makes me wonder if there is a stronger player that never picked up a cue:confused:.

Yah good game JA! Me doubting you cost me $20. Yah you were looking pretty smooth, but you gotta admit, Toasty gave the table back about 3 times with some WTH shots... TY Bigtruck too.

They are most likely just distractions he wants removed...

I am quite sure that all the lint picking and constant table touching up and cleaning is due to the fact that the man is an absolute perfectionist...

The reason he moves balls from pockets to other pockets is because he knows when his head/eyes are over a pocket in any way, that the balls in there, if they are the bright ones, will distract his attention from shooting the shot...

I do much of this lint picking and ball shuffling around myself too...

It is just that simple friends....

Johnny is just removing any and all distractions that may take away his attention to the overall shot, and all parts of the shot he is about to execute...

I know this because I have the same perfectionist disease myself...

I know you a perfectionist crushing me into lint on the bar-box,embarrassing me in front of RAFAEL.thank-you very much.(hehehe)

Thanks Mr. B....(showtime)...

And back to Johnny...I have also heard somewhere that he has a workout routine something on the same lines of Shane...

As usual...the player who is always on the table will do the best...

The player who is willing to put in the required work,
( proper quality table in regards to pocket size, and quantity of table time)
...This is what it takes to be a winner...

I think it is on purpose but not intended as a shark, simply a way to get him in the state of mind he needs to be in. Or maybe a byproduct of the fact that he is in his own world blocking out everything else but the table.

If I was playing Archer, watching him run out from everywhere and locking me up on safeties would shark me more than his mannerisms.

I just realized I don't think I've ever seen him play one pocket.
