Jack Hynes stories? (I know, I know)

He was living with a friend of mine at the time, he said Jack came home and turned into a hermit for a while and was never right after that.... Pool, and being the best, meant that much to Jack. They said when he first started playing he would be waiting at the front door to the poolroom to be the first person in and they would have to push him out the door at closing time, within a year they said Jack went from a banger to playing close to world class speed.

You are in the top 3 posters in my book here at AZ, whenever you post, I read it, period.

Can you give a honest assessment of his talent compared to todays players?

Thanks again,

Ken

Jack Hynes

Jack Hynes is living in Long Beach, California, Jack called me out of the blue last week, he has taken up scuffling at golf, says he does prety good at it, Jack said he's been drug free going on three years now and I believe him, he sounded real level headed to me on the phone, but since the call he's phoned me a few times at 3 and 4 in the morning and I really don't care to talk to anyone at that time of the night!.I told him unless his ass was on fire not to be calling me that early no more!...he he:grin:

My brother Country Calvin had this specially made 9 footer, unreal tight, it was at his nightclub/poolroom called "The Country Connection" in Texarkana, at the time I didn't believe there was a player alive that could beat the ghost on it playing 9-Ball, this was back in the late 90's, well one afternoon someone bet Jack he couldn't beat the ghost playing 10 ahead, Jack jumped up there and beat the ghost on Calvin's tight table in 45 minutes, everyone in the poolroom nearly fainted!

About an hour later, not sure of the spelling,( San Tos Sanbijon ) walked in and made a game 6 ahead for $500 with Jack, well that lasted less than an hour and San Tos hit the door!, Jack waxed him good!

One summer it was real hot there in Texarkana in the late 90's and we had the doors open to the poolroom to let a breeze blow through the room, Jack came riding up on his Harley and took a spin in the poolroom, Jack did a doughnut on the dance floor then sped away out the door!, Calvin was running after him not far behind hollering that he was barred!, that lasted just a few days, everyone had a big laugh, Jack is a crazy funny guy at times!, I've heard he has done this same thing at another place before.

Jack said he's coming back my direction in the next 30 to 40 days, we'll see !, he still plays pool, just not on the level he use to, but even that speed is scary I would imagine.

Thanks Ken....

I myself have never seen him hit a ball in person, only thing I've ever seen him do is run his mouth.... I jawed him down pretty good in Dallas 11-12 years ago. He found out that I'm pretty good at running my mouth too..... Lol

What I do know from everyone I've ever talked to is that Jack could flat play.... With anyone if he had the mixture right. Some people are born to self destruct, Jack is one of those guys.

In the mid 90's when Lambert's was really rolling in Baton Rouge, myself and my best friend at the time (Little John) went down to play a tournament they had there. I drew Jack and beat him in a short race on the bar table. In hindsight, the whole thing was to get John in a game. Sure enough they played a few ahead races for a good chunk of change. John was getting something like the 8. All I remember about Jack is that he had a mouth on him and that he wore his shirt inside out. It wasn't long until our pockets were also inside out!

Funny lil John didn't get a better line...He would have needed the 7, 8 & the last 3 back then

I have a picture of Jack on a bar table team from sometime in the early 1980s one of his teammates was Poochie Sexton, I always wondered if Poochiewas one of Jacks mentors or if he was already a player when they met? Anybody know?

Oh ok...that was b4 the internet & cell phones...U could still sneak around back then some.

For sure. I remember thinking after about the first 3 racks that we were doomed, but you know John. He wouldn't quit until we were on empty. At the time, I couldn't remember seeing anyone play as good as he did. Maybe Reid Peirce but that was about it. Granted, I had little exposure to top flight pool back then.

Lil Jon did have a decent gear..especially on the lil table...He spun that cueball around pretty good...the top players just did the little things alot tighter & better...It was almost comical when he 1st picked up the game of one pocket...I was bringing lil Sal to Snake's regular to play him..lil Sal had to spot him @ 1st cuz lil john shot @ the flyers every single time & would even say..I'm gonna fire @ my hole for my dough...lol

ljohn is my favorite..I blew 3 dimes staking him about 3 months ago..he was getting 10-7 11-7 and not from the best out there..im sure john will read this..he has an ego but its good publicity..Im sure he can talk me into staking him again..LJ whats up...

I won $2500 one time..we get to the greenroom a lil late & he is already in action with this older guy smoking a cigar & playing barefooted i believe if not had sandals on..they had just started playing races to 7 for $500..nobody knew who the guy was including me & lil jon was going by another name to the guy thinking he was the hustler..well lil jon asked me if I wanted to bet on the other guy..I said sure & bet him same bet they was betting...old man wins 5 sets in a row...I win $2500 betting on a complete stranger...the good old days..lol

I think that was right after I left Houston. That little $500/game 9 ball action you got him into on the bar table that same weekend was a pretty sweet deal. Fun to sweat for me. You looked a little pale at first until he started getting the cash. :grin-square:

Swear to God...my line of thinking was even tho lil Jon was using a Alias...Hattiesburg was pretty much a 1 horse town back then & li Jon had put it on the road players radar & just figured that was why the old man was there & knew he had the best of it...Somebody told me later that the guy use to play better than Archer & was the 1st one that took Johnny around when he was still a teen..think he was from the Carolinas..was in a old winnebago..beard ,cigar & flipflops..forget what he told us his name was..I juiced him $300 even tho he was betting his own.
