Thanks Ken, couldn't stay all day. Left when you beat muffler. Really liked the play of Mark H. For those that don't know Ken streams many events at JJs and helps run tourneys. I officially annoint him ( The Voice of Jamaica Joes ). He is nice to the old timers like me. LOL! Todays trivia. Herman the German played high school baseball with Mickey Mantle! Kris

Herman Croix is an older gentleman, not sure how old, but getting around well. Still hits balls every day and seems to be at JJs daily. I had lunch with him and his old pal Buddy Hall at Tunica. Not by design as they just needed a place to sit. LOL. He didn't play with Mickey Mantle but against him in tourneys. He pitched. I would say Herman had more influence on Okla. City players than anyone in the old days. My thinking is that he was just very accessible to players. He's one of those guys who has played all the great players. Great stories.

Gonna have to give 'most influence' to Norman Hitchcock.....
Herman and Mr Truelove are tied for second....imo

Norman Hitchcock had the aura of a Master at the table....
...in my top ten for role models

You could be right about that. I wasn't around either much as I was always doing that work thing. Hitch just seemed not as approachable, but I only knew him in his later years. Driller was at the tourney but didn't play. Eddie Carver frequents JJs almost daily.

CONCRATS KEN NICE FINISH TUFF FEILD . SEE YA ROB:thumbup:

Thanks Felix!

I learned a lot from watching Mr Hitchcock! But I agree he was not as free with information as Herman is these days. In fact Eddie Carver is a lot more willing to give a helping hand nowadays too. I think that is a natural progression of aging and understanding what's really important.

Muff was down in his back. He had a real hard time getting around the table. I lost the next match to John Gabriel 9-8. He got out to a 5-0 lead then his break left him and I got a roll or two make a match of it! He is a tough competitor!

Mark plays very good! As does a half a dozen other cats in that tournament! Smallish field but some good pool was played by most!

Herman is 80. There are very few players who have done what he has done! He has a way of beating you and making you like it! A class act! I am still trying to get the $40 bucks back I lost to him a couple of years ago!

I never knew he played baseball though. I bet he has some good stories!

Ya'll come out and see us at Joes some time!

Ken

Cool to see Eddie C. mentioned on here.

He showed me some one pocket moves a few years back that I've never forgotten. He was also nice enough to point out that I shouldn't quit my day job. :D

He had a way of taunting and nagging you into getting good enough to finally beat the smug look off of his face. I love that old guy, I need to get ahold of him sometime soon.

I watched him play "Little Hand" for $25 a game on a bar table about a million years and ten lifetimes ago ago in OKC :D. I was an 18 year old college freshman at O.U. in Norman. Other noteworthy pool people who attended O.U. include cuemakers John Guffy and Billy Stroud, Don Owen - the 'O' in OB cues and Dick Lane, a damn good player.

I watched Hitchcock play at the old Central Club in downtwon OKC. He was a legend even then. Seems no one could beat him around there, including the road men.

Lol, that ^^^ is funny.

As for the others, Herman the German has always been a great guy with a great heart. He has been a positive role model for some great up and comers. Norman was great even in his later years, I can't imagine how good he was in his prime. And while we are talking about great guys in OKC, Gary Bright deserves a mention. He is a class act, pleasure to talk to, and a wealth of knowledge for anyone who wants to learn something.
