Jan Swanson now Mosconi Cup event?

This year they will be giving Mosconi Cup points for regional tournaments that are noteworthy, like the Swanee, the Joss Tour and perhaps even the Mezz Tour. There will be less point awarded than in larger tournaments like DCC, but it gives players an incentive to play more of these regional tournaments. I think it's a good thing and will only add interest for the MC. Mosconi Cup points will bring more players into these fields and be a boost for tourney pool in the USA. There should definitely be MC points awarded for the Bigfoot tourney as well. We only get the best players in the world competing!

I like the BigFootChallenge. But it definately should not get MC points for a couple of reasons.

1. The entry fee is to high
2. It is invitation only

I feel like gambling matches should award Mosconi Cup points. Like Alex Pagulayan should have a million Mosconi Cup points now for beating Scott Frost in their rematch.

Watch out for Tony Chohan next year, with all his 1 pocket gambling wins, he'll be a shoo-in for the Mosconi Cup!

For those thinking about the wisdom of regional events offering Mosconi Cup points, I encourage you to listen to the American Billiard Radio broadcast of 9/10/2015. Luke Riches of Matchroom Sport is an interviewee. He comes on at about the 9:30 mark and begins talking about the events for 2016 at about the 18:30 mark.

We'll open it up to a larger field if so.

It is Matchroom's event to do with as they please. The Mosconi Cup was a good one this year. Who are we to say what events are points events whether its on a big table or bar table. Let them do what they do as it is a successful event. I hope they have twice as many more points events whether its on the big table or bar table. More pool for us to sweat the better!

I was watching the Mezz West State tour, and the commentators announced that the Jay Swanson Memorial Tournament will be a Mosconi Cup points event starting in 2016. First, is this true?

Second, if it is, is it right to have a regional event as a points event? I know the Swannee is a very popular event, but at its core it is a fun event for locals to that area.

It is not a "professional" event by most definitions. It is played in a local room, over two days, and there are many stories of players simply quitting because the heat in the room was overbearing.

The money added is more in line with a regional event than a larger professional event.

Thoughts?

All it can do is ''increase play'' and help the pool room business and the sport in the US....that's a GOOD thing. I like the idea/ideas that are beginning to give the players....SOMETHING to shoot for....a Goal for our mass of young players that could create more Skylars.....players have had nothing like this EVER in our sport in the states. All we've had is ''if you get better'' your punished for it in the long run.

How can you award MC points for a small field event, that's an invitational?!

Lou Figueroa

This is an evolving animal, nothing is ever perfect in the beginning, but it's a START. Let er run and let the cards fall. Who would of thought McDonalds would sell burritos.........EVER. We've not gotten it right for decades, trying something NEW....''what a concept''.....I'm being VERY sarcastic. All that's been happening for EVER is doing the same thing wrong for at least the past 30+ years.

Mike Page's Fargo Ratings partnered with CSI who is partnered with Greg. Very easy to figure out. That said, I don't see anyone that would never cash. Bigfoot is always a good show IMO. Johnnyt
