Jasmin

I am flat amazed at all the posters saying Jasmin "will be a force in a year or two." :eek: :rolleyes: Holy cow, she just beat the top female players on the Earth, hands down, and TOOK the BCA Championship away from Allison (no small feat in itself). She finished in the top 8 at the recent 14.1 championship in NY, with all the best players! As was mentioned, she just finished in the top 8 in the Norwegian 9-ball championship. She is a many-time Europeon champion in 8-ball, 9-ball and 14.1. She is ALREADY a force, and can only improve with time. What I think is coolest, is that she thinks and plays like a guy...and has no fear of playing anyone, men or women. Her goal is to be the best player period...and she shows many signs of moving in that direction, at just 20 yrs of age.

To answer someone's question about her past. Her parents own a restaurant, with several pool tables, in Austria. That's why she's been playing since a very young age. She started getting personal coaching, from a friend of her father's, at age 8, and that coach (Edward Neumann) has stayed with her, including traveling to tournaments with her, for the past several years. As I've said in the past, solid coaching and instruction pays off in spades!

Another thing I was curious about while watching the match was the pronunciation of her last name. Is Ouschan pronounced, as Mitch was saying it, like ocean or, as I've always said it in my head, like ooh-shawn? Also, isn't the J pronounced as a Y for to sound like Yasmin?

Don't know about the J/Y, but I've heard "ocean" is correct.

I took a few years of German back in high school, so I'll take a stab at trying to pronounce her name the true German way. :p

It's correct that a "j" in German sounds like a "y". However, the final "e" should not be silent. So I'm thinking a German would pronounce Jasmine as "Yahzmeena".

As for Ouschan, it would probably sound like "Owzkhan".

Mr. Hohmann, if you're there, how off am I?

I'm sure everyone is getting sick of me ranting and raving about her lol! The only area of her game I think could use a little improvement is her safety play, she is very aggressive but at times too aggressive. Once she learns how to play better "tactical" pool her game will jump a small notch and when that happens she will strike fear into any opponent, man or women.

amen to THAT. she's already there. she had a 120 run high by the time she was 16. and hasn't anyone caught her demeanor at the table? when she's at the table, she owns it.

.....and the way she slaps at the table when she's done with business....:)

Agreed...already arrived...

I would have to agreed....that she's already arrrived....

Allison may have made a few mistakes...but not many. I think during the match that the commentators mentioned that her coach has been working on training her to play under "pressure"....and you can definitely tell that she can play under extreme pressure. She is very cool, focused, and calm... To me, that is what takes most people to the next level.

What I would like to know...is what exactly the coach does in practice or training sessions to simulate playing under extreme pressure?
 
I got a chuckle out of the slap

The slap reminded me of a rodeo rider giving a bull or bronc a slap like that after riding it. "You threw the best you had at me and it wasn't good enough."

Definately the best woman player on the planet, I would like to see her match up with Karen, Allison, or Janette. It would be great to see. Put these four in a room, who do you think walks out winner.
 
it would be interesting, though I think you'd have to include Ga-Young.

I think it would sell bigtime for a round robin of the top 8 or 12 WPBA players. Most likely the bottom 52 players wouldn't like it, but I believe it would go over big in the right venue and be great PR for the tour. Maybe make it a once a year tournament. Call it "The WPBA All Stars". Johnnyt

Governament does not pay.He is not her relative.She pays him with the money she wins.:cool:

It did come out of the cobwebs, but it would be great for these women to face eachother once a year in some sort of challenge of champions. Jasmine would probably dominate it for quite sometime until she either gets old or just quits.
