Jeremy Jones Appreciation Thread

jeremy has become the number one or two commentator in onepocket
i took a lesson with him
his ability to dissect my flaws and come up with ways to fix them were superb
he is a great guy too
i will always give him the benfit of the doubt and support him

I feel really bad for JJ. He never should have had to play being 50 years old , ill-prepared, and playing against some of the finest players on the planet.

They (Matchroom) should re-instate having an alternate on the team. This was in no way, shape or form fair to Jeremy Jones. Would they have made Johan Ruijsink play had he still been captain???

Maniac (calling BS on this whole tournament)

I thought it was considered against the rules to get any coaching/advice from a teammate, unless it is your partner in a doubles match?

As far as JJ, after the initial shock and disbelief, he handled this entire incident with incredible class and made no excuses. Can you imagine how ugly it might have gotten if it had been Earl in that situation?
I hear players yell out to their team mates at other times in the MC. Why not, "Watch the clock!"

The spirit of the event was correct. I thought players on both sides had the right attitude towards one another. Respectful and even supportive of one another.

We need pros who act more professional. It better for all involved, for fans and the game.

That's so funny because when Keith and I were on the tournament trail, I'd yell out "Watch the rack" when his opponent was racking. Keith never watches the rack and got slugged quite often when the opponent racks.

It is great that the referee racks at the Mosconi Cup. I never once saw a player complain, but I'm sure they are instructed not to in the players meeting.

Ever since that book of Joe Tucker's about racking secrets, rack riggers were born. 🙃

Jeremy Jones is a trouper. He'll never forget this Mosconi Cup, but neither will we. The way he played that last race, so tactical, using his one-pocket strategies and expertise, he was picking up speed and playing well. I am sure if Jeremy had been practicing before the Mosconi Cup full-time, he would have adapted to the environment and equipment faster. I am damn proud of Jeremy Jones and our Team USA.

The one member of Team Europe that I admire today is David Alcaide from Spain. He was humble in his win against Jeremy, and throughout the entire Mosconi Cup, you never saw him beating his chest like a gorilla, motioning for the audience to make noise when Americans were at the table the way some of the other Team Europe members were doing, Team Europe inciting the audience, it made the atmosphere like an MMA match, not pool. I did not enjoy this year's Mosconi Cup because of the way some of Team Europe members behaved. David Alcaide is the exception. Kaci was also cool, though he looked like a deer in headlights almost the entire time. Not sure what was going on with him. Albin Ouschan behaved like the ultimate professional that he always does too.

What I loved best about Jeremy Jones is his demeanor with the team members. He was loose as a goose, smiling, giving them advice, and just tried to create a comfortable atmosphere for his team members. I loved that. Our Team USA were comfortable and smiling. And, oh, before I forget, I am a brand-new HUGE Sky Woodward fan after this year's cup. The shots he came up with, bank shots, he does his Kentucky roots proud. What a shooter; what a guy!

Jeremy was the glue that held the team together and had to play at the last minute. I felt so sorry for his wife in the audience because I could see she was taking the heat of the hooligans in the crowd. You can see she's full of light and grace. She was cheering Team USA all the way.

After giving it some thought, my opinion is that in the situation Jeremy faced in the final game, this is where his team (co-captain?) might have helped him. If one of them had been paying attention and noticed the clock was still running and he had no extension, could have called out to him to go ahead and shoot. This is an instance where just one team mate could have saved the day. Where were they and why didn't anyone alert Jeremy right away?
I don't believe his team members could have gotten involved. It was not a doubles match. His best chance for a reminder could have come from the crowd.

Maybe karma gave JJ a chance to demonstrate to current and future players what kind heart must be put into the game. All I can say is well done JJ regardless of the results. It's team building time. We need a structured format for choosing players so all good players can give their best to be on the team.

David Alcaide is a boon to professional pool. Falls into the same category as Ralf Souquet. There are others like them and I wish there were more like them. Albin Ouschan is not far behind them in this regard.

The "MMA" atmosphere is the reason why I quit giving a rat's ass about this event. I haven't watched it in years. I can't even imagine the trainwreck viewers/spectators would have witnessed if Earl had been able to play.

Great leaders don't show you what to do. They show you how it's done. Jeremy Jones played with grit and heart at the 2021 Mosconi Cup, not only as a team captain but as a pinch shooter, and he did it with wisdom, integrity, and class.

There has always been coaching going on between games in the MC, so why not be able to say something during a game. No one seems to know the answer to this.

I may be mistaken, but weren't the team members sitting behind the shooting player in the TV area in previous Mosconi Cups? If that was the case, they could have spoken up easier if they were right there. If I had been in the audience, I would have said something. If those cackling hooligans in the audience could make noise, sing, and scream each time the American players were down on a shot, then, by golly, so can I. :giggle:

I just wish some folks would lay off the age comments for JJ. 50 YEARS OLD IS NOT THAT DAMN OLD....lol #1971life
50 is not that old.....but to be trying to play world-class pool against world-class pool players is a whole 'nother thing.

As a general rule, a pool player's age must be multiplied by 1.5 to get the equivalent in human years.

JJ did a good job except for the time foul. Thanks JJ you did really well as Captain.

I still don't understand the reasoning for the time to continue to run. What's the motivation to have that rule in place like that? Its not as if ball cleaning is being abused, unless I'm missing something. That kind of foul just isn't palatable to the average fan. I think people in general expect there to be a more practical application of the rules, rather than such an arbitrary circumstance like that. I just don't see the sport growing with casual fans when we see things like that happen.

I thought he handled it like a true pro. Just a bad way to see such an intense game end.
