Jim Wych

I have been a friend and coworker of Jim Wych for more than a dozen years and have always ignored the criticisms that I see of him on the forums. I dismiss it when American fans complain about his phraseology because Americans do not understand that our main audience is Europe and Asia where the terms that Jim uses like in-off, double, and pot are the proper and acceptable terms.

But the recent criticisms of Jim are just over-the-top. He has never called Strickland a disgrace or a loser and I know that he personally respects Earl as one of the greatest players ever.

Jim runs a tour in Canada, the Canadian Nine Ball Tour. This year he was able to generate $80,000 in added money for that tour. Unlike most promoters, he put not a penny of the money into his own pocket but chose instead to put it all into the prize funds for the players and even went into his own pocket for $9,000 that he had to pay the Canadian government as a tax for receiving the sponsorship! Can any of you mention another promoter who has done likewise?

As a husband and father he provides his wife and two daughters with a fine home and a loving and supportive and very positive atmosphere. If you wish to nit-pick his commentary, that is fine, but no-one who does not know him should ever attack him personally and should not make statements that have no basis in fact. This game needs more people involved who care as much for the players as Wych and who is willing to work hard to provide them with maximum prize funds and exposure.

Awesome post, Jerry. IMHO, pool needs 100 or so MORE Jim Wych's and perhaps 50 or more Jerry Forsyth's. Thanks for saying what needed to be said for a very long time.

Jerry you and Jim along with Jay are a great commentary trebble and me personally as a european fan wouldn't have the commentary team on sky any other way.

P.S

Jerry can I ask why us european sky tv viewers only hear your dulcet tones twice a year at the worlds and the mosconi and not the world cup of pool or the world masters?.

Keep up the good work.

The commentary team for the Mosconi Cup is so much better, in my opinion, then any pool on TV here in the states. I hope all of the pool world will realize this, and will put you three together more often. Jim has fans, even if we are not as vocal as our negative counterparts.

He knows the sport, and gives more back to the sport than most... I am not sure what the negative people on this board are looking for in commentary, but all 3 of you guys do it the way it should be done.

Just another fan of Jim here! I personally met him in the Canadian 9 Ball Tour stop in Ottawa. Who is 'Snorks', he didn't care, if you talk to him, he will talk back. Jim is an outstanding individual and an asset to the game. Please name 5 other people that run a nation wide tour. Kevin Trudeau... Joss....

Jim, if you read this, I think that you will find 100 people that like you to the 2 that don't (sort of like Toronto Maple Leaf fans :) :D :p

Keep up the fine work Jim. You have a ton of supporters!

Jim is a greast guy and yes some of his terms are for the international audience which is cool. Great thread.

Jerry, I don't think that there's anyone on AZB (Or anywhere) that could have said it better and clearer than that, and I agree with every word wholeheartedly :)

Yourself, Jim, Jay Helfert, Billy Incardona, Danny Diliberto are all undoubtedly the BEST commentators out there for pool on TV anywhere in the world, plus like you say, there aren't many (if any) any other tour directors/promoters that can say that they put ALL money in and pay ALL money out.

I agree wholeheartedly that the pool world most defnitely needs more Jim Wych's and Jerry Forsythe's :)

I happen to love Jim's commentary. His love for the game really shows and that is what you want from a broadcaster IMO. I actually find some of his eccentric terms entertaining and find my self reciting them as I play with my friends. Here are just a few common "Wychisms". Granted some of these might be common pool broadcasting terminologies.
1. "That ball wiped it's feet on the way in"
2. "He took last years paint off of that ball"
3. "He could not have legislated for that"
4. "That ball took the servicemans entrance into the pocket"

You can't judge what's going on by audiance response, that's for sure. Europe seems to be getting the larger audiance response than USA... and we're in Las Vegas. Lord help us!!!

Thanks for the great post, Jerry. I read on this forum that some of the commentators have not spoken kindly about Earl when on the air. If my remarks were offensive to you, as Jimmy Wych's friend, I apologize.

What you have written is a great tribute to a fine pool player, promoter, and all-around good man. Thanks for the thread! :)

In addition, for those that may not know, Jim was a highly accomplished Snooker player and today remains a great Snooker and Pool Player!

Uh, no. I responded to a post made by somebody who called Jim Wych the K word because in that poster's opinion, Jim Wych spoke in a way which was not nice towards Earl when he was on the air.

Read the thread one more time, if you will.

If you would like, I will be happy to PM you with the posts written on this forum, from other posters besides me, about what Jim Wych, et al., said about Earl during his matches.

Right now, if you don't mind, I would like to enjoy the Mosconi Cup on the forum. When I have time, I will be happy to accommodate you, providing references, dates, times, member names, and words of the posts.

If that does not suffice, then I am sorry. I read Jerry Forsyth's post. I responded, and I edited mine. Is there anything else you would like to call me out on today?

On second thought, I don't even want to watch the Mosconi Cup anymore.

I'm sick of all BS. I'm done.

I dont need any PM's, I read the posts when you made them. I then saw where you edited the replies to comply with your post in this thread. A post that insinuates that "other posters " were saying those bad things about Wych.

FLIP FLOP.........

What ever..... really....just watch the Mosconi Cup... I dont think anybody really cares... I just happend to catch the about face and thought is was odd...........
