There are numerous posts on Facebook that Jimmy Marino passed away yesterday.

RIP Jimmy.

Rest in peace my friend. I'm glad for the time we had together oh so long ago. You were a great pool player and a great guy to hang around with. Thanks for your friendship down through the years.

It's sad when you see your peers passing away. It reminds me of how limited our time is here. We were all young once. :o

Sad news indeed. I last caught up with Jimmy in the early 1990's. The guy could flat out play.

Never

I never had the opportunity to see him play but he was very highly respected as a top player by players in Northeast Ohio. RIP Mr. Marino.

.

Very sad. Makes my heart ache.

I'll never forget Jimmy and the ass whooping he gave

me at the Clyde Childress Memorial tournament in 1986.

The table were so fast it was like playing on ice.

I think the score was 11-0 and I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Great player! One of the best ever out of PA.

He could really play. In Johnson City 1970 he and Rempe were a pick em race to 11. RIP ma man, you were fun to be around.

R.I.P. Jimmy
I never saw him play in his prime, but I frequented his room and every now and then you could pry a story out of him about his days on the road. He was modest in his later years, at least to me, offering up more stories praising the talent of guys who beat him rather than his own victories. He said he was never into hustling; He'd rather come into a room and announce he'd play the best man you got here for $$. Here's his obit from the Pittsburgh Newspaper:

MARINO JAMES E.

R.I.P., Jimmy,
I remember attending a tournament at his Bridgeville pool room in the early 80s with Jimmy hosting and playing in a round robin. The other players were Allen Hopkins, Jim Rempe and Mike Sigel.
As you might guess, there was a lot of good pool being played, but it was Marino who stole the show. He was one heckuva player.

Knew and played Jimmy in Frisco in the early 70's at the 'Palace!'

Great talent and fierce competitor!

R.I.P. Jimmy Marino, say Hi to, 'The Beard!' for me

I was just at Jimmy's room last night for a few hours of practice. The future of the room is uncertain. The building is going on the market, so there's no telling how long it will still be open as a poolroom. As we all know, the ratio of poolrooms closing to new rooms opening is staggering.
To those members who live in the Greater Pittsburgh area, stop by and break a few racks in tribute to one of the game's champions.

Bill
