John Schmidt runs 820

I read on FB that it was a 196 with a scratch on the break, a 197 with a scratch on the break, and then the 820.

It was through this very forum that I got to sit front row center when John won the US open 9 ball. His entry was paid by an AZer that was too nervous to watch. I was visiting with the doorman (Pineapple, RIP) and asked what was up with this guy pacing around the entryway and peeking in at the door. He told me had a piece of Schmidt and it clicked who it was from what I had read here. We visited and he gave me his ticket!

I've been a John Schmidt fan since, even though he almost crashed my drift boat 15ish years later!

That's nuts he ran that much. I thought he was pretty much retired. I would have bet large he couldn't beat his 626 today. It took him 1-2 years the first time. Great job.

I wonder whether the psychological pressure of beating Mosconi is what got him last time. My vague recollection is he had many runs in the hundreds but kept faltering as he got close to 526. Maybe Jayson pushing the record to the 830s meant that the pressure was off until he started getting close to that number.

was this done on the same table as the other great high runs..
No. This was on John's table in Wyoming. His 626 was on a Rebco table in Monterey. Jayson's runs were on a GC1(?) in Virginia. I believe John has a GC4, but the video should be out soon.

Right. The "equivalent" event in 2012 had a field like a regional 9 ball tour stop in the USA. Without the WPA sanctioning, it didn't get any traveling pros like it did in 2005, 2006, and 2008.
The 2012 "World" 14.1 event had a decent field. Here is how they finished: https://www.azbilliards.com/tournament/5389-the-world-14-1-tournament-2012/?action=results

Schmidt finished 5-0 in the group stage, a bye and then 1-1 in the double-elimination stage, and then 4-0 (versus Eberle, Hohmann, Eckert, and Reyes) in the 16-player single elimination stage. The single-elimination matches were all to 200 points.

Damn, that was a name I hadn't seen in a long time:

"...I saw the video...I can confirm the run is authentic...A limited run of DVD copies will be available for sale for $5k each..."

I'm 5 min into the 626, and the commentary is great! I can't believe he didn't release it right then. I'll probably watch it all in the coming days.

... Schmidty is a strange bird:)
Well, as they say, he marches to a different bagpipe player.
Now it is available. Funny how it popped up so quick. ...
The version of the video John and Jerry presented at the live presentations had roughly half the video at 2x speed. I didn't know (or had forgotten) that they had a 1x speed, commented version. Strange it was never sold.

maybe didn't release it because he filmed the wrong end of the table. 😉

it's a pet peeve of mine (and others, the am. 14.1 champs did it one year and changed due to popular demand)

He plays pretty top end 1P. I’ve played John and watched him, too bad he didn’t concentrate on 1P. He could have been mentioned as one of the greats in 1P.
Yes he does, John plays all games well, last time he came through town we played Banks and he edged me out. Looking forward to his return here soon to avenge that loss.

Jayson’s were on a GC in Virginia, at Bobby Chamberlain’s place the Bak Room.

I thought this video was locked away in the CJ Wiley secret vault next to the Earl running 10 racks video?
