Johnny Archer

He is not Skys coach and never has been. As far as my knowledge goes the only thing Skylar ever asked him was how do you hit the straight backs so good. Johns reply was how do you hit them so good? After it was brought up before , I asked him personally while practicing with him a few days before he won the Derby bank ring game . Being a local here and having known the young man for a number of years he would have no reason to steer me wrong. If i am wrong please elaborate....

Someone said on accu-stats or online that he had been working with brumback in kentucky. coach might not be the correct term. could very well be a misunderstanding.

Yes, people say a lot of things like he was also coached by Wilson, also not true. They just can't believe the truth. And its pretty simple. He has a ton of natural talent. He also has been put in the position by his parents to be around Hall, Richie, Gray, Chip for the last 5 years playing in tournaments and also hanging around the action matches on those bar box tours. All those guys are GREAT bankers. He has also been a road partner of Robs for the last 5 years. If anybody has been a mentor/coach it would be him...So basically he has been watching those guys and picking up on what they do. And when you grow up around lions, either you learn how to eat with them or they eat you....As for banks he told me he simply started seeing the angles.... Same thing any great banker will tell you. I've also heard because he lives here that Buddy worked with him, very, very not true. But when i asked Buddy once how he got so good he told me the same thing, he said he got so good by watching the good players play and picking up a little something from each ones game. With the only exception being he said the Eddie the Bear taught him how to bank.

The USA has 3 guys that can play consistent "Pro Level Pool" and that's it, SVB, ARCHER AND RODNEY.

I disagree with Rodney and Archer. They have the speed to at times play "pro level pool" still but they do not always do it at this point. They have terribly weak matches where their semi-retired state and lack of staying in constant professional competition shows. Archer just lost to the world "junior" champion in the Japan event last month...

Saw !! Jordan Splieth kicked ass against Ryder Cup Players at 18 and 19 years old that Japan Jr. will beat a lot more than Johnny Archer .

I'm not as keen on Archer next year as I was on Archer this year. In his last Mosconi played on European soil, Johnny went 6-0. Even though his form was nothing special this year, I thought that his excellence in 2012 made him a logical pick in 2014. In 2015, unless Johnny shows some form, I'd leave him off the squad.

I personally would pick Johnny every year as long as he could leave Rodney/Hatch/Earl cadre at home. He seems to be out playing more events this year so i think he's trying to get back his consistency. I sure wouldn't be the one who writes him off as past his prime. He also seems to be better in the shorter races. Unless somebody special happens to pop out of the woodwork i could easily see a team of Johnny,Shane, Dechaine, Hall, Bergman. All 5 would also have cup experience.

It seems a lot of the focus and negativity has been on last years beat down at the Mosconi. The year before in Europe 11 to 9 somebody a couple of guys did not carry the mail or a victory. in 2011 the same thing they win those two and nobody is talking and twenty five percent of the post go silent.

I like this group personally… I think this would be a very good team in terms of talent, experience, and synergy!

Earl and Rodney are great together

I looked it up:

They have partnered in the Mosconi Cup in doubles 11 times and in trebles once. They won the first 7 of those 12 matches but lost 4 out of the last 5. So 8-4 overall, including playing once with Deuel in a trebles match.

you're right - Johnny can flat-out shoot. hopefully after all of the "politic-ing", lessons have been taught this year (to all!) & things will resume to "normal".

there's no better way to get someone's attention, than to hit them in their wallet.
