Well, seems there is more than one.
One of my upcoming work trips is taking me to Johnston City, NY. I thought, oh, nice I get to visit one of the most famed places in pool history.
Nope.
That one is in Illinois.
Should have known a bit more about the location than just the city name I guess LOL

Not only is the one I am going to not the pool one, but there are also no direct flights to it from around Boston, NH or RI. You need to fly down to NY City area, then fly back up, taking up 6ish hours or travel time. It's faster driving there by over an hour. Annoying.

If you're hoping to study Greek history, don't make the mistake of going to Athens, Georgia.

Seriously, though, yours is a funny story. Thanks for sharing.

You sure that isn't JOHNSON City?

I don't think Johnson City, NY is much more than a one-hour drive from the airport in Syracuse.

And there are direct Boston/Syracuse flights. Schedule the work during a Turning Stone event.(y)

I'll have to check on that, I was looking at Ithaca and another one, I think Albany maybe for the flight. Thanks! Although with roughly 1 hr drive to airport, 90 minute check in and boarding, I may drive there anway.

But you can study Greek history in Nashville of all places LOL And I did on the last work trip :) If you told me to list some things you can do around Nashville, "visit a full size greek temple" would not have ever come into my head.

I checked it, and there are flights to there, with an hr drive, but, 1.2 hr flight time, 1 hr drive, plus a few hours extra spent on going back and forth to airport, the driving there seems just as good of an option. Really it depends on if I want to deal with driving 4 hours or wasting time at the airport same amount of time.

Unfortunately, I don't set the schedule, it's a new store opening so when the timeline hits what I need to do there, that's when I go. Right now it's around Dec/Jan/Feb unless there are delays, which will be fun since I am also heading to Jacksonville FL around that time also. I get to go from FL to NY winters several times in a few months. Blah. I still remember one of my other FL work trips, it was like 70 or so out in Dec, and I was in a Dunkin Donuts drive through wondering why they still had the Winter blend coffee there LOL My brain just went "it's warm, so not winter" therefore no Winter Blend.

As for Johnston City -- the real one-- I drove through at the time of the 2017 eclipse (which was maximum in that area) but didn't visit the Janscos' former site. I'm told that this is where it used to be. No longer useful.

I don't know what you do or how you are paid but a 6 hour drive beats the hell out of 6 hours roofing- or working at Dunkin Donuts and have people complain about the Winter Roast.

As they say in the describe your job badly, I make sure computer systems are working and make sure others don't use them like idiots.
