Hey guys,

you can call it the placebo effect of a new cue, or whatever....

but i just christened my new cue with a 108, missed the next shot cause my only shot was to jack up over a 4 ball cluster shooting a table length cut down the rail. Missed it by an inch ! oh well........

cant wait to see what the rest of this can do once i get my longer shaft in a few weeks !!!!

Great run. There is not more to say. Kept up the good work and someday we will play some straight. Great run: 108
 
Placebo Effect

After a run of 108 I doubt it's the "placebo effect"

There is something about getting a new cue but it
sounds like you got used to it quickly and that's a good sign.

The placebo efffect would have worn out after 30-minutes or so.

So you did get that coco Carmeli w/ the silver inlays from Martin!!
That cue was one of my fav's from the moment I first saw it - it is just a great total package of colors & materials. If it had been the right type of joint (for me), I may well have bought it. Some combos just particularly appeal to some people... this was one for me.
You got a really awesome cue! (And it sounds like it's working out for you...)
 
Great run Steve, you will be keeping that cue forever.

John says great run too, he would chime in but he was chased away from the forums by Russ Chewning and Shooting Arts over on the main forum. He says he will never be back. This could also effect the release of the 294 ball run on a Diamond, time will tell.

Get that camera out and get us some video.

Like I told Dennis, it was real funny when i was leaving to go to the room I jokingly told my wife I was gonna go run a 100 with my cue and leave.

She told me to bring the camera cause she knew I can do it !

I guess like they always tell me, your wife is always right and you should always do what she tells you !!!!


I am not happy to hear that about John, it's players like him that keep this forum alive, with his wealth of knowledge. He is a true mentor of the game of 14.1, all of us aspiring straight poolers would be fortunate to ever gain a tenth of his knowledge and ability !

ask John if I can get a copy of the run for me and all the guys at liesure time billiards, we truely miss having him around !
 
I have a number of cues and I notice that when I switch cues, after some time, my game improves a bit. I think it's because i am more 'tuned in' to the new stick, paying closer attention to my game, etc.

Nonetheless, your 108 deserves a Congratulations !!!

I Have learned alot as of late due to this forum, and i owe it all to you guys.

you guys have given me the incentive to keep pushing ahead, and staying focussed. Striving to become what many of you guys already are.

I know I was the first to comment on this incredible run but I will do so in this thread as well. There was no doubt as to if Steve was going to run the 100 it was just a question of when.

I watch every player that comes through our doors as its my job as the "houseman" I take my job quite seriously and if you ask the players I take care of on a regular basis they will tell you the same.

I have come to know each players games in here and the nuances that come with them and there is something just different about Steve's. It has a natural flow that seems to just come from within. The pleasure of watching a player like Steve is that although he wants to win its not just about that considering he seldom plays for money unless provoked. He plays to better his game on and off the table. Whether its the countless hours of practice he puts in or time off the table spent reading here on our beloved forum or watching DVD's like the 09 World Straight Pool Championships of late.

He is a student of the game in every sense of the word and at the same time a phenomenal teacher who I owe a great deal of my own game too. My game has grown exponentially in the last year and a half culminating in playing in the World Straight Pool Championships an experience I will never forget. His joy for teaching his friends and discussing situations on the table is only foreshadowed by his love for the game itself. You can often see him sneering at nine ball and while he has a healthy respect for the game it simply is no longer for him.

I cant tell you how much I look forward to seeing his name on the front page after taking down a big tournament.

As for me I hope that day comes and I look forward to doing more and more write ups on the sport that I love. Running 100 balls is a plateau in someones game. You can either go up or go down from here.

Everyone get your sunglasses because when it comes to Steve and his game you will be looking up for quite a while.

Way to go Steve! I just saw this... am happy you are realizing your dreams within the game. This is your 2nd 100, or more?

Steve, this was my 3rd time running into the triple digits, although this was not my high run the 108 was my high for the year. My high run is 119, and I wasn't even once thinking that I was gonna topple it this time, to be honest I wasn't even thinking of any numbers when I was shooting during the 108....

Thank you once again for all of your kind words, this I am sure will manifest itself in me and add that much pressure to me being the favorite in league. Just have to do something about 7-11, I say we knee-cap him !!!!
When are we hitting the tables again for some no count ????

I guess this 108 was the end result of a solid week of practice, wish I had some more vacation time to use in this way.!

Cue

Hey,

the cue wasn't built for me, it is a Ariel Carmelli and I bought it from Martin(jazznpool) at www.westerncues.com

he is actually having a third shaft built for me now from Ariel, it's a 30" old growth shaft. Can't wait to get it in a few weeks, for now I am swithing back to my McDaniel cue since I am most comfortable with it , until I recieve the shaft and have the weight adjusted in the AC

I will take some good pics with my slr and put them in the cue gallery, just waiting to get me cue caps from Alton (cuecaps) I will link the photos into this thread once I get them complete
