I am still making myself familiar with the rules of 8 ball, but was under the impression that if you made the 8 on break, you lost because you still didnt legally pocket all your object balls prior to it sinking. So this past friday at a little tournament(28 people). I drew a fairly good player that I seem to drawfirst round of every tournament we play together. Well, because of the turnout and the shortage of tables, its a race to 1, double elimination. Anyways, We drew each other, I win coin toss to break(10 min after I was talking about replacing the tip on my break cue). He racks, I break, sunk 2 solids, 2 stripes, and the 8 ball. I was dissapointed. He shook my hand and said,"well thats something you just cant control". I thought no big deal, went and put my cue up, and the general consensus was that I shouldnt replace my tip with breaks like that. I was like yeah, but if I could just win. Then i was informed that sinking an 8 ball on break is a victory. Kinda felt dumb because everyone was congratulating me on my break and I thought it was because the way the balls moved. I've only been playing seriously for almost a month now. I ended up finishing 5/6th out of the 28 entries. My main focus is 9 ball, but the local 8 ball tournament is fairly fun and great practice.

Yeah you'll find some tournys where 8 on the break is a win, but it seems usually its either a rerack or spot the 8. In the league I play in its actually breakers choice to rerack or spot.

A few years ago I was playing at a bar table 9 ball tournament in Jacksonville NC. The place was called fast freddy's. Anyways I'm playing in the finals. Race to 6. My opponent is on the hill, score is 5-2. I then broke and made the 9 on the break 4 times in a row to win the tournament. To say my opponent was pissed is an understatement. He outplayed me in every aspect of the game except for the break. Oh well that's 9 ball for you. Again I'm sorry Ray.

Made the 9-ball 3 times in a row, each time making it in a different bag. Made 5 balls on the break numerous time.

Playing 10 ball a few weeks ago i made 6 on the break, one in each bag, lol.

When I was new to the game & new to gambling at 9B, I played a guy that made the 9 on the snap 4 times in a row on me. I'm surprised I didn't quit right there!

2-3 years ago I made the 8 on the break (8B) 3 times in a row on a barbox. All in the opposite side pocket using the second ball break.

I've only made 5 on the 9B break once and a few 4's over 15 years. I made 6 on the 8B break once (4 stripes, 2 solids). I took solids & ran out.

I've made the 9 on the break twice in a row a couple of times, but my "best" 9B break was a few days ago. I crushed the rack, dropping six balls! Pretty easy run out from there! I was happy. If only I could do that every time.....

9 ball on a valley bar box made 6 on the break only to dog the 9 and lose the rack. I've made the 9 on the snap 2 racks in a row once. I made a 9 on the snap to win a scotch doubles tourney

8 ball 3 stripes and 2 solids ran out the solids. I've made 3 of one category several times to run out, and the 8 on the break several times, but never two racks in a row.

Q skills I've dropped 5 on the break on a 7' Diamond Pro/Am with tourney cut pockets

I'm more interested in dropping a ball getting a nice spread and a shot after the break.

Best break

Six or seven years ago my break was exploding. I made a nine ball and a seven ball break playing eight ball. Both were completely different. The break where nine went in you just heard a thunk, thunk thunk. It was like each ball waited its turn to fall. After a while it seemed like the table was empty. The seven ball break was just the opposite. It sounded like one big thunk and the balls were gone. My best in nine ball is a six.

I made eight balls on the break once in a game of Rotation (continuous). Needless to say, I made short work of THAT rack!!!

As somewhat of a disclaimer, it wasn't a very well-built table and had "buckets" for pockets!!!

My best this past year

I just made 8 balls on the break in 8 ball, and 6 balls in another rack during the same match.

I have also made the 8 three breaks in a row earlier in the year.

Both of these have happened on bar boxes.

Now just gotta make this a consistent thing.

BTW - using my $20 ebay purchased "Mountain Dew Green" Challenger brand cue, with a water buffalo tip(which probably cost more than the cue).

I made seven balls on the break, playing nine ball, against Ernesto on a nine footer (I ran out). On a seven footer, I also, made seven balls on the break. They were all stripes and I kicked in the eight. If you play enough games, anything can happen. In one pocket my best break was against Efren - Made a ball and ran out ( I get 13 to 5 and the hits!).

16 balls on break

I made all 16 balls on the break on a bar box about 15 years ago!!!!!!
It was a sledgehammer break with good spread and the ball just started to fall, one by one all in the corner pocket like they had eyes, even finally the cueball went in. Come to find out someone had kicked out the 2x4 from under the leg on that side!!!!!

Made 6 on the break playing 9 ball once. Yeah, that was an easy out. I've also made 6 playing 8 ball as well (pretty sure the cue went in on that one, making it 7 :p). I once made the 9 on the snap 3 out of 4 times, and the one time I didn't make it, it was hanging in the corner right next to the 1, so it was a dead combo for the win - giving me four racks of 9 ball in five strokes of the cue.
