Hey everybody, just wanted to share with the pool world that I won my first tournament tonight! I showed up at the poolhall (West Chester Billiard Club) and was asked if I wanted to get in on a tournament. Although Im totally broke, I agreed to participate and ended up winning it!!! It was small, 10 guys, double elim 8ball. I played my best and got to the finals undefeated. The final was against a strong local. I got nervous and didnt play too well and he won the first set. Second set he got on the hill and I hadnt even won a game. I was basically about to pack up my stuff and leave with my tail between my legs and no pride when he missed the final 8. I jumped up and got my ass together and beat him. Best feeling ever. I was beginning to lose hope as most of my tournament showings have gone nowhere, but a little voice in my head kept telling me not to count myself out. Oh, and I promised god I would do good in school. Lol whatever I did it worked and I walked out with the sweetest $80 I ever laid hands on. Sorry to ramble but this meant a lot to me. Just goes to show, if you spend all your money on pool cues and cases, spend countless hours at the poolhall perfecting your skills, get lessons, go to online billiard forums every chance you can get, and watch countless hours of pro pool on youtube, someday you too may win $80.

Best of luck!

An actual quote from me

I've always said, "You show me a man who just won his first local tournament and I'll show you a man who is trying really hard not to smile."

Congratulations!

Congratulations!

The first win is always the hardest. Once you know you can win it gets easier. As for the size of the purse, sounds like it meant a lot to you tonight and that is what counts. During one lean time, I started every night with literally only two or three dollars in my pocket and no food in the house. I was house sitting for someone so I had a roof over my head but that was all. Every win was a big one for a few months! :D :D :D

Questions

Was it handicapped or not? How many games did you have to win after he missed the match 8 ball?

Congrats, man. I remember my first win back in November of 1993. Nothing is as sweet as that first one.

Just one question ,if you were broke who payed for you to play???

Lol I had enough for the entrance fee, but that was all I had for the next week. It wasnt handicapped just races to 3. I know short sets but it was pretty intense! One mistake and you can get knocked out.

Good to hear stories like this...I quit playing pool in 1993 and just picked up a cue in June of this yr....I entered a tourney at a pool hall in Aug after the end of our league session..I came from the losers side to win it...it was great to take home 285.00.. I have been playing in a local bar tourney on sunday nights...there is usually about 18-22 people in it....bar owner puts in 150 in the pot...for the last 6 weeks, I have came from the losers side to win it....i usually get between 220-320 for winning it...its really a good feeling to win a tourney against other good shooters...keep up your game and work on the mental part of it....you sound like you will do fine....good luck

there is a tourney in Tahlequah Ok on sun nights, usually pays approx 200, monday night is Checotah, usually 150 to win, tues Gore Ok pays approx 100, another in checotah wed, usually pays 85-100, thurs tahlequah pays approx 150, Sat either VFW (this is a hard tourney..its usually 64 people....Jef Melton plays in it..it usually pays 500-700..and another sat tourney is Henryetta pays 200-300...so if you could go play each tourney..you could make soem good money doing that.. before i quit playing pool back in 1993..i played in bar tournaments in some towns around here...I got fired from my job because I was always playing pool and calling in the next day....so i played pool full time and would play in tourneys in about a 50 mile radius...for 1 solid year..after all my losses..i pocketed 65,000.00. I met my wife, she was 18 and couldnt get into the bars..after a few times of not being able to take her into bar tourneys..i just pretty much quit and went back into the Army. so stay focused..and keep your head on straight, you can make some good money doing this if you are smart about it.....

o.k.

Sorry man, West Chester PA.

thanks everyone for the great responses!!!

Congratulations! I hope there are many more to come! Pretty soon you'll be going to tougher tournaments and winning one of those will give you an even bigger smile!

I've won a few in my time (hardly enter weekly tournaments anymore though) and it was always a great feeling, especially if you knew there were people there who played better than you! Just this past weekend, I got into the money for the first time at a major tournament. I also remember every time I've won against a pro (not often).

Keep working at it and keep playing good competition and I'm sure you'll post about many more wins!

Congratulations! That is such a great feeling. Keep up the good work...and make sure you keep your promise to God! ;)

I think it's a great accomplishment to just be alive if you quit playing pool in 193. How old does that make you?
