IMO any two shafts will play differently anyway. I assume you got an LD to replace your regular shaft? Don't know your age or how long you've been playing but the general consensus is if you are starting out in your pool shooting career then an LD is the way to go. Supposedly some older fellows who have always played with ordinary shafts don't like to change to an LD. Changing between games sort of tells me you have not decided on your preference for an LD shaft. Do your own thing and don't be swayed by all your buddies preferences. It does take time and patience to convert to an LD, at least that was my experience. Good luck and hit em good!

First i'd try to shape the tip a little and see if the one is a little flatter than the other.
Then take a look at the shafts. One might be alot or a little skinnier than the other.

I play with a standard Schon shaft because that's what I'm used to but if I was a beginning player I think I would go with low deflection.

I agree with Al.. If you are a relatively new player, stick with the LD.. The tip has alot to do with how well you will draw your rock too..
I've played for 25 years and have never been able to switch to LD successfully.. That's just me, I've probably not really given it enough chance. I play with a no ferrule maple shaft and it's the best of both worlds for me..

why does it have to be one or the other? regular maple shafts can be l/d shafts too if u set them up correctly. it's not like a predator radially laminated shaft deflects less because it's radially laminated. it deflects less because the front of it is hollow. u can do that with a regular shaft as well.
i do prefer standard maple shafts tho cuz they feel much better imo. only "l/d" shaft i'll use confidently is the mezz hp2 shaft which is actually a maple shaft as well altho it's been cored with carbon fiber if im understanding it correctly.
deflection isnt a huge problem if u r actually going to spend time practicing. if u just wanna shoot around then a l/d shaft is easier to use.

When I picked pool back up in 1993 at age 44, I started with a standard shaft (McDermott).
Since then, I have spent some time playing with an old "cat" 314 shaft, an original OB shaft, a Z2 shaft... and now I am pretty much back to standard shafts.
The best shaft for drawing whitey back was the OB shaft. Don't ask me to explain that... it just did... and that was with the standard tip.
Today, I switch back and forth between a Timeless Timber shafted Bob Frey SP cue and a Z2 shafted Bob Frey 4-pointer cue... and a third cue (Dave Jones custom) that I just took receipt of that has standard shafts with it. I'm focusing on shooting with that cue right now.
I don't plan on going back to any of the OB shafts and Predator shafts other than occasionally playing a couple of games here and there with my Z2 shafted Bob Frey.
