Justin Bergman

I have read that he took almost 4 years off (of not competing). Not sure if he was not playing at all during those 4 years, but it just amazes me that he came back so strong after possibly quitting the game for that amount of time. He sure did get his game back really quickly, and seems like he is playing much stronger then he ever did before he took close to a 4 year break from pool. By the way, I do not know if he actually quit playing pool. Just read on here that he took a close to 4 year break from competing.

How many years was it?

SVB doesn't gamble with his own money. Does that make SVB any less of a world class pool player?

I have seen SVB gamble with his own money. At least I assume he did. He was with I believe the owner of Fargo Billiards this year during the SBE at a local poolroom and was gambling with a local spotting the 7 and the break in 10 ball. SVB won.

Justin Bergman is an exceptional player. Among Americans, and on the big tables, I think only SVB, Dechaine and Hall are clear favorites over him.

Hall? You can't be meaning Justin hall playing even rotation on a 9ft.
Bergman would rob his pal at that game.

Anyone who has beaten Dennis O 4 times (in 9 ft and 7 ft Abby tables ) in row has to be taken seriously
As other have said , he needs to play some oversees majors/WC to test where he stands

Known Justin since he was 16

He sure can play with the big dogs...but does he ever gamble with his own money? Johnnyt

We met at the pool hall in Granite City, north of St Louis. Even Then he gambled but it was hard to find someone that would play him.

I'll never forget sitting outside and talking to him about taking care of himself if he was going to play pool at a real high level. I knew back then he was world caliber.

Then he lite a cig. I told him the cig looked bigger than him :p.

A couple of times when I talk to him at tournaments I still ask him if he still smoke.....

Puts a big smile on his face. And Yes, Justin will bet his own money. You can bet yours on that. I just gave you a lock bet........

I am not sure Hall really has that much of an edge on Bergman, I am almost tempted to think it might in fact be the other way around. Hall is great, but he still has that loose amateur style that pros tend to drop as they mature. I am seeing Bergman and his style of play start to more mirror the proper elite pro style of play.

Bergman's biggest mistake is his avoidance/refusal to step out and play the elite events. He could have really done something in the World 9-ball Championships and than built upon that experience. It Is when player step up to the next level and test themselves that they finally actually reach that next level.

Bergman has moved up to #3 in the USA by Fargo Rating (behind SVB and Dechaine.) Hall is a little ways back. Some of Justin's best tournaments have been banks and one-pocket, which we don't capture. I'm inclined to think he wouldn't enjoy playing a rotation game against Bergman very much...

sjm will call me crazy but I agree and almost posted the same type of thing yesterday to his last daily profession of SVB, Dechaine and Justin Hall being the clear and convincing top 3 in America who are essentially heads and shoulders above everybody else. I definitely don't agree that Hall is heads and shoulders above Bergman in rotation games (not his words but same sentiment), and am not even certain that he is above him at all. I am also tempted to think that Bergman might even have the slight edge these days or at worst that it is pretty damn close. Call me crazy...

I'd like to see Shane, Mike, Justin Hall, Justin Bergman on this years cup

Hard to argue with that top 4. Probably the only question is who should be number 5. I still think Rodney. While he may be one of the "old guys" (and it seems Mark Wilson has been wanting to avoid the "old guys" for some arguably reasonable reasons), he is still probably most deserving based on skill, as well as being (to my knowledge) a good team player who seems to help pump up and motivate the team. Fun to watch too.

Yea he would be great number 5 but I have odd feeling that Scott is gonna be one of the picks being that he's been in our area a lot and that being same area mark Wilson is in there few other great players that might make the pick I think the 3 that are shoe ins are Shane Mike and Justin B

I agree with your three who should be shoe ins. Nothing against Scott but I just can't see any reasonable argument for his inclusion on the team like could be made for several other guys. There is simply no argument that can be made that he is top 5 of American players in rotation games no matter what criteria or justifications you could try to use. If he makes it on the team it will scream of playing favorites and poor judgement to me.

I saw a Mark Wilson post on Facebook and he basically said all 5 Mosconi Players will come from the points leaders.

I'm not so sure Hall is better than Sky either , I also believe Berg and Sky will be nipping at MDs heals for No 2 before long
