Does anyone know if this is an exhibition ?
Normally in the OP this will be specified but it wasn't.
Then in the press release again no mention of money.
Then a post was made by Mark in the original thread after this
question was asked and still no mention of money.
So I'm thinking this might be an exhibition at this point and
I hope I find out differently.
Many call it an exhibition if the players aren't gambling themselves, which is a farce in itself, since even when they are, it's usually backers who are doing the gambling.
That's like saying that boxers are ALL fighting exhibitions because they don't put up the purses themselves...lol...

If the definition of "exhibition match" is no money based on outcome, then no...this is not an exhibition. The winner will receive more than the loser. I believe that it is inappropriate to reveal financial details that the players have agreed to.
One thing is certain, this is going to be one heck of a hard fought match between two superstars!

I can't think of any sport or game where 2 people match up for money, like boxing, bowling, darts, chess. It sounds like it's the same deal as TAR did. 5K total and winner gets about 2/3 of it. Something like that anyhow. If it's PPV the purse/payouts should be made public so we know what's at stake for the players. Johnnyt
So if there wasn't any money involved you wouldn't purchase the PPV?

I wouldn't, and for the same reason I don't watch pre-season football. There's nothing at stake.
I've just never seen a match (in person or on an internet stream) where two players matched up, and the amounts weren't known by those watching.
I agree that most of the time the amount is disclosed. But, for me, the interest lies in the actual match up between these great players. Don't think for a second that pride isn't a huge factor for these players, probably much more than the $$$ unless it's a significant sum. I would be surprised if they don't have some side action besides the prize money.
It wouldn't be to hard to figure out the market for this type of match based on past matches put on by TAR. I'm guessing the prize is around 5k with the winner getting 3.5 vs. 1.5 or close to it.
With the time we have until the match it would be nice to see Mr. Mars come up with 10k+ to put down on his horse SVB and put the offer out there for the rich Taiwanese to back their own player and make this a big challenge match.
It would then be like an old school TAR match back when it was the two sides both betting they own.
I would think if it was advertised communicated properly to China there would be a large sum of money willing to back Ko's side of this.
