Kamui Challenge SVB vs. KO ----> Exhibition?

It's a long way off yet. Maybe they are waiting to see what other sponsors are going to jump in on this before they figure out how much the purse is. But you are right, both players must have said yes already. So they must have some idea what the purse will be...I would think.

Depends what you're talking about....

Does anyone know if this is an exhibition ?

Normally in the OP this will be specified but it wasn't.

Then in the press release again no mention of money.

Then a post was made by Mark in the original thread after this
question was asked and still no mention of money.

So I'm thinking this might be an exhibition at this point and
I hope I find out differently.

Many call it an exhibition if the players aren't gambling themselves, which is a farce in itself, since even when they are, it's usually backers who are doing the gambling.

That's like saying that boxers are ALL fighting exhibitions because they don't put up the purses themselves...lol...

Yeah, I'm sure that two of the best in the world, guys that don't face each other very often, yeah....they'll just mail it in cuz its an "exhibition".

I would bet there is some cash involved...probably not sure how much yet. I don't think it would matter with these two. They are going to go hard no matter what.

Interesting

If the definition of "exhibition match" is no money based on outcome, then no...this is not an exhibition. The winner will receive more than the loser. I believe that it is inappropriate to reveal financial details that the players have agreed to.

One thing is certain, this is going to be one heck of a hard fought match between two superstars!

Inappropriate? I don't think I've ever seen a stream of a match, whether it was straight gambling or other, where the amounts weren't mentioned.

The prize money involved is a huge part of the excitement in watching for the fans. Unless of course the prize money is unexciting in which case I understand your wanting to hide the amount.

I can't think of any sport or game where 2 people match up for money, like boxing, bowling, darts, chess. It sounds like it's the same deal as TAR did. 5K total and winner gets about 2/3 of it. Something like that anyhow. If it's PPV the purse/payouts should be made public so we know what's at stake for the players. Johnnyt

Why? It is the business of the players not yours. Do we walk around the street with signs on our heads that state what our income is?

Do you watch it differently if it is a 50K versus a 5K match? So if there wasn't any money involved you wouldn't purchase the PPV?

I wouldn't, and for the same reason I don't watch pre-season football. There's nothing at stake.

I've just never seen a match (in person or on an internet stream) where two players matched up, and the amounts weren't known by those watching.

Great to know. Thanks.

I agree that most of the time the amount is disclosed. But, for me, the interest lies in the actual match up between these great players. Don't think for a second that pride isn't a huge factor for these players, probably much more than the $$$ unless it's a significant sum. I would be surprised if they don't have some side action besides the prize money.

It wouldn't be to hard to figure out the market for this type of match based on past matches put on by TAR. I'm guessing the prize is around 5k with the winner getting 3.5 vs. 1.5 or close to it.

With the time we have until the match it would be nice to see Mr. Mars come up with 10k+ to put down on his horse SVB and put the offer out there for the rich Taiwanese to back their own player and make this a big challenge match.

It would then be like an old school TAR match back when it was the two sides both betting they own.

I would think if it was advertised communicated properly to China there would be a large sum of money willing to back Ko's side of this.

It always amazes me how things get spun here on AZB.
