Kamui ss black

Absolutely.

I bought my 2002 Mustang new and it still looks like new and runs the same. If we take care of things they last. Funny, a lot of the foreclosed houses on the blocks around me had $70,000 auto's in the driveway. ;) Johnnyt

Sure, but you pay for it (in the cost of the auto, and still have to get it done.

True story, I had bought my wife a Mercedes ML and took it to a dealer for the first oil change. I was rocked with a 120 dollar oil change service.

Last time I went to the dealer.

Well, in a way, don't the high end makers offer free maintenance service for the warranty period?

I have used these tips for a few years or so .
They only last me 2 months or so .
Anyone else have that same problem ?

You are getting a month more than most LOL they harden up too fast for me... Love them brand new out of the box... If you get your cue work for free just change them the first Saturday of each month... I think the guys up in Ohio refer to that as bath day so you can start calling it bath/tip day ;)

That's only a 500% mark-up over a local oil change place, nice dealer LOL

I took a car to get two tiny plugs changed on my headlights because they kept shorting out and were a known issue for that model, probably $5 parts. They charged me about $300. It was no harder to change those out than to change out the bulbs and I only brought it there because I could not find the parts to buy myself.

They last 6 months easily.
Try the SS Clear.
Make sure you get them from a reputable dealer or installer only.
There's a bunch of fake ones out there.
They are fuzzy from the sides when trimmed .
Kamuis trim like butter .

I've had a SS clear (brown) for about 9 months now. I play with the cue a lot but not every day. It is high maintenance, but I can't imagine a super soft tip that isn't. Unless you have a really super light stroke. Mine is getting short and is definitely harder now but it plays fine and always has.

I got it because I had never tried a soft tip and wanted to get a feel for what that was like so I went all the way with a super soft. I like the feel overall, but I noticed that I lose a lot of action on the cue ball compared to harder tips. This causes me to have to stroke harder which then increases my chances of being off just a bit. One positive difference I noticed with the super soft is that it is almost impossible to miscue. Even with only half a tip, the super soft has a tendency to grab on rather than skip off.

What I have noticed is after a couple of months they start glazing over, and if I don't scuff them up I start miscuing.

These tips need constant attention more so then other tips I had, at least that has been my experience.

I stopped using them for the same reason!
Try Ki- Tech or ultra skin.

Bought a few Browns from a repair man that was getting rid of his Kamui stock.

SS. Having to mess with it a couple of times in an evening wasn't uncommon. Lasted approx one month.

I bought an LD shaft that came with a Kamui S. Haven't used it much but for the few times that I did, the tip won't last long, as it is already worn more than a tip should be with little use. Much better than the SS tho.

There are cheaper alternatives on the Market at this time.

Buy a durometer and if it doesn't change more than 10% in a 6 weeks you either hit like a girl, the cue stayed in your case.... Or I'll eat my hat...

Off to invent the bacon hat since I can't verify the first 2 alternatives LOL

Chris

If I paid $35 for a tip with install, I'd expect it to maintain itself. Mine cost 35 cents each. I have no idea how we ever got the CB to move or spin with a one layered tip. Johnnyt

Back when everyone here was playing with LePros and Triangles for $10 I was using Mooris that cost me $35-50. My answer to them was what's a tip that won't miscue worth if you're playing $200 a game?

Chris, it is pigskin.
If it hits a hard object over and over again, what do you expect ?
The great thing about layered ones is , they don't get hard as one piece ones b/c they are separate pieces .
I know semi-pros and a pro player here who swear by Kamui SS.
It's their tip of choice . And they don't get paid to play with them.

Too many miscues with Kamui's forced me to stop
using them. I'm glad though, because I found the
G2 mediums to be the best tip out there once I made
the decision to stop using Kamui's a couple of years
ago. There are lots of other great tips out there for sure,
but it's G2 for me.

Mooris used to take 3 months to harden up... G2 doesn't take 3 months but will go longer than 4-6 weeks... But we are talking about softs and mediums..If you use a hard you can expect the same tip thru it's life regardless of who made it so then it's all about feel, grip and glazing...

What I would expect is to not take the same tip and press it at lower PSI and sell it as a soft that won't be a soft for long... Same thing on the medium...

That's what we are trying to accomplish and aside from a few guys who break and play with a single cue most of ours have been staying within a point or 2 from where they started for way past the 3 month mark... Peak impact is only 700PSI on the break so that should not be enough to harden up a tip in a real short period unless they are being seriously under pressed.... If I was using this method I could have a super soft tomorrow... Not gonna do it.....

I use the black Kamui ss.
I have it on now for more then 3 years!!
And it is not even half way down, i chalk the tip with Kamui chalk.
I play 2/3 times a week.
So no problems.

For 2 months or so I love the Kamui .

From 2010 to 2013 I loved Kamui, the best tip out there back then
as far as I was concerned. I loved the brown medium that I installed
on a cue in 2010. I tried the black medium a year or two later and
was equally impressed for a year or so. I remember that for the first
couple of years, I hardly ever miscued, but in late 2012 or 2013 I
bought a few blacks and it was miscue after miscue for a few months.
These came direct and were in no way fakes. I believe Kamui changed
their formula or went the cheaper route, because their quality went from
great to shitty in that short of time as far as I'm concerned. Absolute
shame in my opinion, because I went from loving them to hating them
in a 3 year period. The glazing problem didn't seam to exist until 2013
and neither did the miscues. Both seamed to come along about the same
time and I got fed up. Miscues are the equivalent of chunking a golf ball
on the golf course....fvck...makes me want to break my club in half...lol.
The difference to me is that it's not the club's fault in golf, but it sure seemed
like the tips fault in pool. I could count on one hand the miscues I had the
1st two years with Kamui(thousands upon thousands of shots) then in the last
6 months to a year using Kamui it seemed like one miscue every 50 shots
or so. Enough was enough and I moved on. It's a damn shame a great tip
went to shit, but the same thing happened with Moori's.

Sorry for the long paragraph man, I know you always type it up short and
sweet...haha. In a nutshell, give them G2's a try. If you end up disappointed,
I'd be shocked.

I do realize you were talking about tip life as opposed to tip performance, but
trust me, you need to try G2. You can always go back to Kamui or try another
tip if that ends up being the case.

Fixed the wall of words and I have answers for this.... In the beginning Moori was the only one using Japanese pig skin.. he had a great tip but the world beat a path to his door and when they upped production they also made some other minor changes that changed their tips forever...

No More original Moori Med we fell in love with... This was early in the game so Kamui moved into the market... Now you have 2 tip makers buying scrap skins and skivving them to size and glueing them up but!!!

Kamui demands a premium price... This attracts counterfeiters out of china and Taiwan... 4 manufacturers roll out their versions of Moori and Kamui.... The original companies try and take measures to fix this but the equipment/processing is in place so it's a battle uphill..UNTIL. China/Taiwan continues to try and sell the counterfeits but even better people start seeking them out to make a tip for their "brand"... Same tip, the counterfeit tip, that they were making but now they just sell in bulk and they don't have to defeat hollagrams and packaging they just have to stamp the tips with new logos....

Japan is a fairly small country... They raise a limited number of pigs.. So now instead of 2 companies buying up scraps now you have 6 but 4 of them have several brands to supply... The counterfeiting is dropping off but so is the supply of quality pigskin... At one point in time Kamui showed a pig on their website and explained what part of the pigskin was best. They never ever said that was what they used but it was a cool picture.. Now they get what they get and don't pitch a fit....

We are partnering with Tweeten... For our fibers... No shortage and no competition overseas because we won't be doing wholesale on our tips because we won't be knocked off.. If we haven't hooked you yet send us feedback.. The horizon has no limit.....

We are here for one reason... I love this game....
