I heard there was a home video shot of Keith winning the B.C. Open in 1985, does anyone know where a copy might be?

JAM?

Anyone?

Thanks,

Ken

If one exists, I would pay good money to purchase it.

There isn't very much by way of videos of Keith hitting 'em when he was on the tournament trail.

The only videos of Keith I know about are:

Keith and Harry Platis vs. Ronnie Allen (one-pocket)
Keith vs. Mike Sigel (1980-something California tourney, went hill-hill)
Keith vs. Gary Nolan (Accu-Stats X-rated version, with Grady commentating)
Keith vs. Earl Strickland (Finals match at Joss Tour in Rochester, NY, 2003)
Keith vs. Buddy Hall (2003 U.S. Open)
Keith vs. Jose Parica (2003 U.S. Open)
Keith vs. Jimmy Wetch (2002 DCC)
Keith vs. Earl Strickland (on Youtube-Ohio tourney in late '80s)

I would also pay anybody for taking to time to send me photographs of Keith when he was in his teens and early twenties. I have two photos, and that's all.

BTW, the BC Open (Binghamton County Open) paid out $25,000 for first place, which was considered the largest payout of this era. Second place paid $10,000 and went to Spanish Mike Lebron.

There was a large party celebrating this win after the tournament, which is a story in itself. I'll save it for the writers of pool! ;)

I believe that Rack 'em Up Classic match was in 1988 and I think the 1998 Brunswick World Open you have listed is actually the same as the 1988 Brunswick Open also listed. I may be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

By the way, there was someone at the B.C. Open back in 1984 or 85 the year Keith won it with a hand held camera. Gary Pinkowski related this to me. I believe they lived in the Binghampton area. It may take an Ad in the local newspaper to ferret it out.

Thanks Jay

Not sure you are on any of these..
But i enjoy your play by play.. you are one of the best.

I have a few matches with you doing play by play.

Question what years did you do the WPC.
1999 you called the Reyes - Bustamante match.

And who do you enjoy working with the most when calling a match.

Confirmed.

Jay was right they are both from 1988 but they are diffrerent matches.

1988 Brunswick Open is
Sf1 McCready vs Stickland
SF2 Hall vs Sigel
Final Strickland vs Sigel

1988 World Open is
Sf1 McCready vs Stickland
sf2 Varner vs Strickland
Final Varner vs Mathews

And the Miz Keith Rack em up Classic is 1988 as well

Im pretty sure I have an old accu stats tape of Keith playing Ismael Paez. dont remember what year it was from.

As far as I know, there was no video shot at the first BC Open. By the way, BC was for the comic strip B.C. written and drawn by Johnnie Hart. Hart lived in Broome County and both the professional golf tournament and the pool tournament were named in honor of the strip.
After some thought, I think the tournaments were named after the main character in the strip, not the strip itself.

If this is true, the footage was not taken by a local and Gary did not mention it to any of the locals, to my knowledge. We {the local Binghamton players} talked with Gary extensively about the tournament afterwords, and he never mentioned it. Keith won the tournament the very first year.
I'm quite sure if there had been video shot, Gary would have mentioned it to Keith.

I thought the footage was by a local television station that came in during the Final match. Not the whole match, but part of it. Maybe I'm confusing that with another BC Open. I'm sure Gary told me that someone came in and taped, and it might have been for local TV.

I remember a segment with Gary and someone else, at least, being taped. I don't think a final match was ever taped, but I may be wrong. I think it was the year Dave Bollman won. It may have been done by one of the local news stations but if so, it was only clips shown on local news. I don't remember any national coverage like ESPN. The OP could try contacting the Binghamton tv stations.
It just came to me, that it may have been Gary and Dave before or after the final match. There may have been a broadcaster present, but I'm just not sure.

You're jogging my memory of what Gary told me. I think it was one guy with the local news who came in and taped for a little while. And they interviewed Gary. I thought perhaps there may have been some clips from one of Keith's matches. I think Gary told me that he recommended they check out Keith McCready. He knew Keith would not be boring. Keith might even remember when and if they taped him.

The good news is that there is quite a bit of other stuff of Keith, thanks to Accu-Stats. He was still playing pretty sporty in the 1980's. And he had a major flashback at the 2003 U.S. Open.

One of my favourite 9-ball matches to watch used to be Keith McCready vs Jose Parica in the US Open. I guess it was in 2003. Not sure anymore, I lost the tape last time I moved, so don't have it anymore :(

It would be great to see more of Keith, and with a mic on him so it would be easier to hear him when talking to the audience :)

I remember one shot in the match, when he needed to go 3 rails to get position, and he said something like "here comes the dobedoshot" (don't know the "name" of the shot, I just made that up, but it was something like that, but I can't remember it), then he executes a nice shot while the audience is laughing.

He played real great in that match!

EDIT: It was the "Dipsy-do shot". Can anyone explain that shot?

The dipsy-do is when you deaden your cueball, and it is a kill shot.

Depending on the angle you're on, the shots are used quite a bit. You more or less deaden the english on the cueball.

I stroke downward using less pressure, with a longer stroke. You must not overcut the ball, and your grip should be a little tighter than normal.

It is helpful to lengthen your hand on the cue stick and be sure you don't pull or jerk the stroke too much.

There's a lot of dipsy-do scenarios that come up. That is just one of the many that do occur.

I hope this helps to describe the one I made on Jose Parica at the '03 Open. It's all about angles, and the dipsy-do should definitely be in your arsenal of shots.
