I think the gentleman is Jerry Orbach. Rumored to be the best pool player in Hollywood before he passed away. Once played doubles with Jeanette Lee.
KT has run terrible schemes that have duped a lot of people, but I don't really think you can say the IPT was one of them. Yeah it didn't last and it took a little bit for the money from the last tournament to come, but nobody (at least that I'm aware of) got out and out ripped off. Actually a lot of things about it were really good and very professional. It deffintely had a lot of good ideas, but tried to do too much too quickly IMO.

By the way, just in case any of you wanted to contribute to KT's legal defense fund here is a link to help the poor guy out.

After reading that I feel the need to go take a shower.
i signed up for the $100,000 per month recurring support plan. I used world pro's credit card and emailed kevin a picture of bobby's cash to show him i was really serious about helping him in his quest to overthrow the government.![]()

What? It could have ended differently. The IPT was something else entirely. For a lot of players it was a glimpse of how it could be. And it put a lot of money into pool for the time it was around.
To me that's no different than beer or cigarette money. Same thing, money made by preying on people's weaknesses.
Newsflash, a lot of the money backing pool players in gambling is drug and vice money....
Kevin is a little fish in the larger scheme.
You want crooks who rob the public of billions? Try telcos who charge 10cts a text message, a service that costs something like .0000000000001cts to provide.
You got blasted back then because you were so negative and refused to give it a chance. But Kevin proved that the model COULD work.
I suppose saying he was "negative" or "refused to give it a chance" is one way to put it.
Another would be to say that he was "realistic" and "correctly predicted the outcome" and that you were "hopeful" and ... "wrong".
Nice spin though, with comical words like "newsflash" and "blasted" from the "I was wrong but I feel good about it Club".

The only prediction I did make was to bet that the IPT would be around one year after the bet date and it was and Nick didn't pay up.
LOL yeah, I suppose they were "around one year after the bet date" if you count sending out e-mails promising payouts for tournaments that finished months earlier.
Or maybe you think the IPT is still "around" since there is a website you can subscribe to for the old videos.
Amusingly, if you go to the IPT website now it has a banner for GIN.
No, they were holding events one year after, they were in business at the 12 month point as the bet stipulated.
Anyway, if you want to continue to bash this after what 7 years now, go for it. The point I and many others made was that the IPT was potentially a great thing, they tried to make a big splash, spent a lot of money, treated the pros well, and had a good model for building a sustainable tour. No one would have dreamed that anyone would pay $2000 to enter a qualifier before the IPT showed up but in fact we saw qualifiers filling up, we saw weeks of mini-tournaments with the prizes being entries to qualifiers, we saw people jumping up to sign players to management contracts, we saw player practicing more, buying tables, planning a real life as a pro based on the IPT's promise.
The IPT showed what it COULD be like with actual actions. Yes it crashed but the fact is that it COULD have gone the other way and ended up being something big. What if, just IF, the Travel Channel had picked it up or some VC had seen it and put in a huge amount? You haters acted like none of that was even remotely possible when in fact deals like this are made every day.
I consider myself lucky to have had a glimpse of what pool COULD be. That's where my enthusiasm and positive outlook came from. Maybe for those of you who were not able to attend any IPT event you could hardly have an appreciation for the energy and vibe happening at the time.
Condemn Kevin all you want but he did put on several high class events showcasing what an ideal professional pool setting could be.
