Kevin Varney has Passed Away

For those who may have missed the original thread, cuemaker Kevin Varney died last Wednesday. Kevin had been ill for a long time after contracting a rare form of pneumonia due, I believe, to an allergy to the clear coat he was using at the time. This developed into a serious lung problem which he was never able to get over. He was in and out of the hospital for months at a time and had very expensive medication. Last I knew he was on oxygen 24/7. His ex-wife told me that he was very sick the last two months and just could not beat it again. He had been sick for 2-3 years. He was 48 and had a son who would be about six, if memory serves. He was cremated.
As many here know, Kevin made mostly rather plain looking but great playing cues.
Kevin was my friend and I will miss him very much.

I feel so bad about this. Kevin and I became forum buddies and exchanged many PMs and green reps. He was a true friend, through and through.

RIP, Kevin! Save me a place on the rail.
 
My experience with him was bad so I could never call him a friend, but I'm truly sorry for his tragedy and express my condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

That is too bad. No wonder things went south for him so badly. This should be a wake up call for anybody who uses these harsh chemicals on an ongoing basis to keep up on all the proper safety equipment. Very sad indeed.
 
I remember a while back when he sent me a bunch of pictures of some nice exotic wood and we had a couple of PMs back and forth on it. He seemed like a good dude, just had some health problems. RIP Kevin.
 
met him once years ago while i was in charlotte doing a pool school, spent a few hours playing pool and talking, pleasant evening and a nice guy. RIP Kevin and condolences to the family

100%. I just turned 40 this past January..... Kinda rattles you a little when you read of someone so young passing away. Godspeed to his friends and family!
 
You never know.

Sad to hear at such a young age. You never know what people are going through or how bad it is. It makes the little things in life less important when your in a battle for your life. Things can go bad quick for any of us and in a hurry. We all have bad deals we have experienced and that seem like the end of the world. Sometimes we have to look beyond that and realize health, family, and ones sanity come first.

Sad to hear the news of a great cue maker that left us to soon. Hope anyone can get past their situations with KEVIN and enjoy their next cue chase.

I wish i had aquired more than the 2 jump break cues from Kevin. They play fantastic.
 
A reminder of the health hazards cue makers still face. Mike Cochran was 52 when he recently passed away. George Balabushka was 62, and Gus Szamboti was 56.
