Kevin Varney ****Mr. Wilson

Thing is Brian, this new KV incident doesn't vindicate anyone's previously held opinion re his cues.

Varney made crappy cues when he delivered on time, and he made crappy cues when his promises were broken. Bottom line is, it was always a joke for anyone to compare KV to Gilbert, or Mottey (as he himself did, remember?). Though he's fallen off the cliff with orders in hand, the status of his crappy cues in the minds of his deluded (ex)supporters should not be diminished.

I have followed Kevin and his cues around here for some time. Kevin often made claims of being a terrific cuemaker with a superior product. Early on, he was becoming known less for his cues and more for his abrassive manner and his ego.

He and I often butted heads on this forum. I would often critique every cue he posted pictures of and question how he could charge the prices he did. Sometimes heated arguments ensued. Sometimes threats (or hints of threats) were issued.

Finally Kev said "Here! Try the cue and see what you think. Just give it an honest review. If you don't like it, I'll refund your money" and I did that very thing.

The cue was an OLD jump break. It weighed more than any cue I had ever held before and, quite frankly, the finish sucked. The jump joint didn't line up correctly and, quite frankly, it was a pretty bare-bones j/b. Anyone could have made it.

HOWEVER, it jumped pretty well and broke okay too. Was it the best j/b I had ever used? No. Not by a long shot. But was it the worst? Again, not by a long shot. It was, however, my opinion that for the prices Kevin charged, I would just as soon have called Andy Gilbert or Richard Chan at X-Breaker (who, at the time was still taking orders, I believe).

So at this point, I had changed my mind. It was no longer Kevin's product AND personality that turned me off. His business demeanor seemed to have improved and his product was ok at best. It did NOT reflect the price he asked for his cues but still, they weren't terrible.

The reason I say all of this is very funny is because I was one of the people who, all along, said that Kevin's cues were nothing extraordinary. They may not be crap, but he was not making cues on par with some of the elite. However, guys like cajunbarboxplayer and Eric Draven and a few others were quick to defend him as a TOP NOTCH cuemaker and a TOP NOTCH guy.

So as you can see, I find it very funny because everyone was so quick to attack me for making the honest and truthful statements that I had. Now some of those Varney loyalists appear to be jumping ship.

I think the ship has sunk, not a single Varney Supporter today:eek: ;) . It's a Dam shame that it takes this to wake some of these people up!!!

Have a good day!!!!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I enjoy my Varney player very much, and get complimented on it regularly.

For the money I spent on it, it was a great pick- no doubt in my mind.

This Kevin fella must have practiced some type of VOODOO on you guys to have you believe that a "cue assembler" could take parts that any other cue maker could also buy and put together and then have you believe that he is producing the best cues in the business. Now that he is in his non-communitive, non-refund, mode I wonder how his business is going to survive.

I can build cue that is twice as good as the "Varney" for less than $100.00. That would also include a 1/1 case, shipping, and insurance. Just to show you what a nice guy I am I'll also give you a coupon for 2 gallons of gas, no extra charge alsong with 4 hours of table time at a hall of your choice.

REALLY???? Pm me please.....lets discuss this.....

Yep have fun waiting for your Varney. I think the excuses for Varney have run out. It might be safe to say the people spent for the great Mottey errr I mean Varney cues have been blown on whatever he spent it on and I'm sure he'll try to re-emerge as another cuemaker under another name and burn others for huge amounts of money to pay for his tournaments.

I like it when BGP24 posts, any time any where, its just one picture of perfection with a ponytail.

If you are insinuating that the avatar is all he really has to offer to any thread, I concur.

Thanks Logic....

Since you know how much I truly care what some moron like you thinks

I think it's plumb funny that you said that, right now. I was kinda thinkin' the girl oughta have a pretty good burn, by now. So, I fixed her up for him...

Has anyone had any contact with KV, I read that he was seen playing a tournament recently so I assume he is not trying to hard to hide? Just not communicating with any PM's, emails or phone calls. I would think with all the money involved there could be some kind of law inforcement involved? What would be the hold up if what I read here is true? If it were me I would try and organize all the ones who have been wronged and contact someone who could get the ball rolling? I hope this ends soon and everyone gets there cues or money. Good Luck, Nate.

P.S.
I have a Kevin Varney cue and like the way it hits, I also had him match a 314 shaft to it not long ago, maybe 3 months ago and it went smooth, I sent him the cue and he matched the shaft and sent it back within 2 weeks including shipping time so I am wondering what has happened in that short amount of time? But this is ridiculous!!

Kevin Varney treated me with a very friendly, professional attitude, instantly answered all PMs, made me the exact cue I wanted in the time-frame he promised, and followed up afterwards to see if I was satisfied- I'm really surprised to read some of the responses on this thread.

Based on my experience I would recommend him without hesitation- I hope the people waiting on their cues can get everything sorted out.

I could not recommend him until he answers to the ?'s and concerns that have been raised, not to mention the cues and or money owed to those who are waiting. I am hoping to see him step up soon. Nate.

Im sure with all his "friends" here he must know about the mounting questions ?? :( This thread has been going for at least 4 days......
If he does have family problems, i hope they work out for him, but if he does why was he found playing a tourny and selling some cues????

Well, I haven't gone anywhere. I do have a family outside of this forum that requires attention. As far as posting in the thread, I have said what I needed to say, as politely and professionally as I could. I generally don't care to get into the pi$$ing contests that occur in these type of threads. Being argumentative without thought (ranting) accomplishes nothing on either side.

(There has been a lot of contact info posted already. I have Kevin's home number that I will not give to anyone without his consent. So I guess I am a bad guy to some for keeping it confidential.)
