Kick pool is a challenging game.

Here is a link to a video where I explain the rules to and struggle to demonstrate how kick pool is played.

If anyone here on the forum can post a video of a break and run with this game that would be a feat worthy of praise.

Here is the link hope you enjoy the game:

This reminds me of when I was in high school and used to go into a bar after school and only kick at balls to stretch my change out... I fancied myself a pretty clever guy back then...

Eventually, the bartender caught on and didn't exactly like it too much. I haven't been back since.

I like it. It isn't nearly as bad if you are allowing short rail kicks so I don't think it would be too frustrating to play. I will have to give it a try in the basement. Thanks for the video clip.

I'm yet to check the link but I suppose it might be similar to "safety 9-ball" I talked my pal into recently. To the end of the rack we were playing safe and kicking like Efren! Or almost ;)

I imagine that you could play for a while for the cost of one set of quarters.

The very first time I went and watched a pro pool tourney live was at the Sands in Reno.

Great tourney....year that Playing Off the Rail described in the early nineties.

At one point, I remember seeing Troy Frank spend at least two or three straight hours just one rail kicking in balls and said damn, that dude is really devoted. This was probably about 1 to 4 am in the morning...

Every time I get bored and start trying to kick in balls like that, I still think of Troy. WTF happened to him, anyway...

Marcus I Just gotta say thank you for all your videos. When I began to play pool I watched many of your videos on YouTube. I got to say that I learned many many things from you. You have very good teaching techniques that allow people to understand. I can honestly say that u developed my fundamentals and my thinking when it comes to pool, I am very grateful to find so much knowledge in one place.

Thanks for the ideas I like your game.

Similarly along the same lines but ''way more difficult''. I call it carom pocket pool. It forces one to stay in the middle of the cue ball, it improves your stance and approach immensely, its way too difficult for beginning players.

Break a full rack, if you pocket a ball you continue, if not its your opponents shot, pocketed balls on break do not score a point, all slopped balls stay down and don't count for or against you if you make your called carom shot, cue ball in kitchen after all scratches. Once there are three balls left on table ea player gets three more turns at table, then rerack and rebreak (alternate brake). First player to score 10 wins.

The Only way to score a point is by caroming the cue ball off an object into another object ball/cluster/etc and call the ball & pocket.
As long as you hit an object ball first all called balls count. You can go as many rails, you can play dbl kisses, caroms into large groups, just call the ball and pocket.
Scratches do not count against you
If you make the carom and scratch No points are awarded incoming player shoots from kitchen.

If you think about pool when your not trying to pocket a ball WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO/your trying to park whitey in a specific spot left/right or forward, no other game ALWAYS focuses on ONLY where whitey is going after contacting the object ball. A great lock em up safety feels as good as making the money on the break/ its like advanced One pocket practice, but your only concerned about the cue ball going in the right direction.

Players many times in rotation games play shape into this type of shot to either continue their run or carom into the money ball, try it, it's humbling. My largest run was four, threes are extremely difficult and twos are usually common only in the beginning of the game.

I play it similarly but with a little difference.

With this exception,

1) you get one point if you kick and make the ball in a pocket that is attached to the rail you kicked from.

2) you get two points if you kick one rail to a pocket NOT attached to the rail you kicked from, or you you kick multiple rails but don't call a multiple rail kick.

3) you get however many points, the number of rails you kick that you call accurately. i.e. if you do a three rail kick, call the three rail kick and make the ball exactly how you called it, then you get three points.

This way, you aren't only doing close rail same pocket shots and getting the same credit for a full table two rail kick...

Then you just play for a certain dollar amount per point...

And just like banks, you can play short rack (9balls) or full rack kickshot pool

Its always good to hear that the videos are beneficial for people. Its been feedback like this that has kept me posting for going on 4 years now.

Nice vid, Marcus. Kick Pool might be renamed Kick Your Ass Pool. Damn, running out in half-rack banks is hard enough.

What happens to balls the shooter makes on the break? Do they spot up on the foot spot immediately, before the first post-break shot?

There's a woman living in No Colorado that likes to gamble at this game on a bar table playing call shot 8-ball, but you cannot hit the rail the ball is sitting near into the natural pocket you would hit it straight in. I don't know if that makes any sense, but if you can hit a ball down the rail to make it, you cannot simply hit rail first to that pocket, it would have to be called in a different pocket away from the rail. She would ask for 2-3 ball spots where she removes any balls of hers she wants once it is determined stripes or solids.

The game is nuts and takes way too long, but you're right about the lack of quarters needed, it is cheaper than hourly rate.

Maybe if I tried it with a glove I would have done better :).

Agreed. I think this game makes for great practice but kicking off a rail attached to the pocket your shooting for doesn't stretch your kicking quite as much. Sure it's good for precise pocketing but kicking that flat into a ball takes away the challenge of even hitting the ball good. You know you are going to be close and it seems to be cheating the system a bit. I like the idea of one point for kicks of that sort and two points for anything else. I don't think points for rails more than 2 should count for more though as there are 5 rail kicks that are as easy to pocket as 1 railers.

I suppose the rules could be adapted to fit your taste. If I were to organize a tournament for this game I would say spot all balls that are made on the break.

As far as making balls in the pocket attached to the rail you are shooting most of those shots are not hangers, but again play it the way you think it should be played.
