It's common for books being made into movies to take years. Books like the Harry Potter series, which had millions of readers, are the exception. Look how long it took to get The Lord of the Rings to the silver screen. Running the table has a limited readership and while a movie may be in the offing, it will take a while, if ever. Someone on AZ said recently that Tom Hanks, I think it was, has bought the rights but who really knows. And, if he has, it could still take a long time to even get started. Danny doesn't have any control over that.

Danny was born a decade too late. He was a great road player, but in this day and age with the advent of Internet technology, road players are a dying breed.

He then tried the tournament soldier route, joined the UPA, and got royally screwed by the UPA organization when it came to picking players for the BCA Open one year, even though Danny's points were much higher than the majority of the other UPA members. He had won numerous tournaments that year, Reno Open, Joss Tour Season Finale, second place in Skins Billiards Championship, second place in Glass City Open, just to name a few.

Sponsored by a so-called steel industry member, he soon ran into disappointment when the man pulled up. Then there was the movie deal which went south when somebody was killed on the set of one of the movies of the production company. They soon experienced financial difficulties and ceased making movies for a while.

I wish Danny Basavich all the best. He's a great player, full of personality, and was just born in an era that isn't accepting of professional pocket billiards players. He is very talented in more ways than just pool.

From the little I have seen of Danny on YouBoob, I'd say that Jack Black woudl be a great choice!

Lion's Gate rejected the script. Not looking good for the movie. Danny still has hopes for the project.

Well, I was hoping for the movie to happen, but sadly not anytime soon.

I wish Danny all the best in his endeavors and hope that he steps back on the green felt in the future.

It turns out that they started the movie and Danny was playing himself in the movie. The first game of 9 ball that they filmed of Danny playing used up all the allotted film for the movie and they had to cancel production LOL

Seems like a nice enough and jovial guy, but it is absolutely painful to watch him play. Just painful. No fu#$ing wonder he got action.

Funny you mentioned Jack Black, that's who they originally were talking about to play Kid D. He would be a great choice. I think the movie is still alive, but just barely.

Dead on post Craw. I have a DVD of him playing in the 2005 World 9 Ball Championships. I love watching pool as much as anybody, but I gotta tell you, after a couple of racks of him getting down and up over & over & over again, along with sometimes 30+ practice strokes, I fast-forwarded whenever he was shooting! It took forever to even get him fast forwarded on the DVD!

He's a very genial man but it also seems to me that he's quit pool. Why put all your eggs in one basket (movie deal) when you can keep your name and game out there so you remain in the limelight? Yet, he won't play.

After his documented health problems, it seems to me that he's all but quit pool.

On second thought, maybe he makes decisions as slow as he shoots!

Whatever he decides, I wish him well.
