Greenleaf, Hoppe, Mosconi, Balukas (just to name a few) all began playing against the pros as teens, and frequently won...

Is there any reason why they shouldn't be doing this today?

Hint hint Landon and Liz ;)

If you were Barry or Mark or Mike or any major tourney promoter would you allow 13 year olds to compete in your events?

Why or why not.

100% in favor of inviting several young players to every event...

Makes for great stories for the local news and if the teen wins a few matches they may pick it up nationally....

Landon's perfomance in Tunica on the 10ft tables should have made Sportscenter but we have no real media following the sport and we really have noone keeping local news outlets abreast of things like this...

I know there was a major tournament here in Knoxville around 88... One of the local young players was 19 and won a few matches and ended up in the money.... The Local newpaper did a pretty large story on the young man and his background along with covering the tournament..... If he had not placed and noone had contacted them I doubt there would have been 1 word written as it was the only article I recall about the event.....

Isn't April Larson the 12-year old?

It should work with the major tournaments, but so many of the non-major tournaments, i.e., all but a handful per year, are played in places that might be inappropriate for young people. Many bars don't even allow people under 21.

Kids vs Adults

If the kids skill set is at the level of some of the other entrants in the tournament they should be allowed to play. If these kids are just good for their age they shouldn't be allowed to play because they are taking somebody else's spot who is more deserving.

I have a little experience with this scenario. I played in the World Summit of Pool a number of years ago. My first round I drew a kid named Austin Murphy. Some of you may remember him I believe he was 14 yrs old at the time. He was being hailed as the next big thing as he was doing very well against the adult/Pros/shortstops. He beat me, not by much but he beat me and my excuse/reason was that I would have rather faced Archer or Mika as I felt that I should beat this 14yr old and it put extra pressure on me. I basically mind screwed myself. However he went on and beat some other players I think Oscar D was one of them so I didn't feel too bad. So I agree, if they are there and can play to a certain standard then they should get invited. Saying that there are plenty of adults that enter Pro tourneys who probably should not be there either (Prob like myself :)

April is 14, and although she just won the Jr. Nationals again, in the under 14 bracket, she does not yet, imo, possess the skills to compete on a pro level. Landon and Brittany do, and have proven it. They are also 18+ years of age.

A few of the Guys I played as a youngster were every bit good enough , and one in particular Jeremy Jones , Double J was a feared player in Houston before he turned 18

IMHO, if you got the guts to throw your money in the ring, your age shouldn't matter and neither should your playing ability.

I think all tournaments should be Opens and let the BEST player win or lose.

I have some young gun friends who play and sometimes win the tourneys its funny sometimes there like damn it nick evans is here lol I think if they wanna play let them play the more young players we have the bigger this sport will get
