Kim Davenport

JAM, you really cracked me up with this post. Seriously. Sly humor I can appreciate.

Yes, Kent. I am the same one who posted "over there". I edited my posts to, hopefully, better reflect what I was trying to say. The written word doesn't always come across the way I intend. As a matter of fact, I modified all the posts because, in hindsight, my opinions of a personal nature should be expressed in person, not on an internet bulletin board.

Jennie, if we ever meet in person, and Keith or Kent don't try to punch me first, and you are interested, I will try to talk about our positions and opinions in person. If you are not interested, I totally understand.

just dont see how someone could say or write those things keith is more of an icon in the pool community then you think and jennie and keith are some of the nicest people ive met in the pool world and at tourneys cant you see more people watching keiths matches he has a great fan base.sorry if i over reacted have a good one kent.

I appreciate you standing by Keith and me. Kent, it may be better to step away from this. The reason being is that sometimes in forum culture, there is a small minute number of people who seem to derive joy and pleasure in what I would deem as "unpleasantries," for lack of a better word. I am not saying that ScottR is one of these people.

Since you are kind of the "new kid on the block," I got your back and want you to have a happy experience on AzBilliards. There are some GREAT pool folk on this forum, and there are also some who are bullies, trolls (posters who will not reveal their identities), and mean-spirited people. Again, I am not saying that ScottR is one of these people.

Because Keith is a pool player who has a little bit of notoriety in pool circles, he is sometimes the target of the bullies, trolls, and mean-spirited people. This is what happens on forums sometimes. On a good note, not everybody is like that. Once more, I am not saying that ScottR is a bully, troll, or mean-spirited person.

Enjoy the forum for what it has to offer and step away from this. There are MANY more good forum members than there are sourpusses! In sum, I am not saying that ScottR is a sourpuss. :)

I agree with this. People can always agree to disagree and act in a mature, civil manner when discussing things. Being able to see others' point of veiw and seeing ones' faults is always a good quality. I can't stand all of the forum trolls, bullies, sourpusses, etc... Having a good sense of humor is always a plus on the forums too as well as actually having first hand knowledge of what you are posting about when it pertains to the pool world.

You know, Scott, I tried very hard to write my posts on this topic in this thread, so as they would not be misconstrued by you or anyone else. I don't like forum games, one forum against the other, et cetera. It's stupid.

I apologize if my words offended you. I tried to prevent any unpleasantness on this forum by writing it in the manner which I did. I did not intend to have my words indicate ANYONE. The posts I wrote was about forum culture in general. Again, I apologize if you misinterpreted my words. I ended each paragraph with "I do not mean this pertains to ScottR" or words to that effect. I don't know how much more clear I could have written the words to indicate I did not mean to indicate you.

I honestly did not take offense to the post at all. It was just plain funny. And, you, being a professional wordsmith, would likely agree that repeating "...not pertain to <whoever>" could be a clever way to say the opposite. Again, NOT saying that you did that.

Kent, let me buy you a beverage of your choice before you "release your right hand" at me.

Thank you for the very kind words, Kent! Keith sends his regards to you! :)

As you read AzBilliards more and more, you will learn more about the posters of this forum -- the good, the bad, and the, oh, so very ugly!

You have a good one, too, Kent. In hindsight, I spoke/posted out of turn and have since changed that mistake.

Scott <<== thinks he may have suffered from the narrow-mindedness that he accused others of.....

ScottR, let me say that I did, in fact, OVER-EMPHASIZE every single word in that post for a reason, so as NOT to have my words misinterpreted. It seems that it had the opposite effect. :(

If I had written it any differently, the forum bullies, trolls, and sourpusses -- NOT YOU! :D -- could have, may have, or would have have ripped my words to shreds, as I am sure you know does happen from time to time. :o

Thanks for your understanding and good-naturedness! :)

Nine pages long and most of it concerning an argument over ???
At least there are a few posts about Kim here. :)

I've known Kim about 25 years, and he and Keith ruled the roost in California for a long time. They would battle each other for supremacy quite often. I never saw Kim back down from a game with ANYONE! He was up for any challenge. One caveat, neither Keith or Kim went looking for Swanee. Mutual respect is what I call it.

Kim is often overlooked among the top players of the last 20 years, due to the fact that he was strictly a 9-Ball champion. No Straight Pool or One Pocket for him. That being said, Kim was one of the best tournament and money players of his generation. I was the TD at the Sands the years he won, defeating Earl in the finals. He played great and deserved the win.

I watched him win at both Hard Times' against strong fields. Back in 2000, before the eye injury he played Jon Kucharo in the finals in Sacramento. It was a brilliantly played match on a very tough Gold Crown. Both players were at the top of their games. Kim just came with big shot after big shot, and Jon finally flinched. It was a great match to witness, and I expected stardom from Jon, but instead he began his decline soon after that.

Kim also won twice at the U.S. Bar Table. He never played in it for years, saying he was not a bar table player. I finally convinced to come up and give it a try. He won the Eight Ball tourney on his first try, over a deep and strong field. I handed him a check for $5,000 and asked him if he would be back. He smiled and came back the next year and won the 9-Ball.

Kim stayed at my house several months back when he played Morro on the 6x12. He lost badly the first day and had to get money wired in to continue. He never complained or bemoaned his fate. He was determined to win! On the second day, he won all his money back and then he broke Morro. No one has more heart than this guy.

About Aida, his LOVELY wife. She is one of the classiest people I've ever met around pool. Gracious, charming, sincere, witty, I could go on and on but you get the picture. She is a beauty inside and out. And still looks like she did 20 years ago. I want some of her pills. :)
And what a handsome couple they make. They could be on the cover of Vogue.

One more thing about Kim's game. No one I ever saw stayed down on the ball better than Kim. He was, and is, absolutely rock solid when shooting. NO moving parts, except his eyeballs and elbow. Kim has the best stance I ever saw in pool. What a pleasure it's been to know Kim and watch him play.

I agree with you, Jay. Kim's mechanics are perfect. His stance, alignment and follow-through would be good for just about anyone to mimic. He's a very stylish player, and he usually puts the cueball within a 6" circle for position everytime! It's great to see him playing again.

Great post Jay. Back on point! This thread didn't just get hijacked, it got kidnapped and taken across state lines. It's about time someone ended the pain.....

I went to Mr. Cues in Atlanta today and watched some of the Southeast Open Tourney that Tommy K. runs. There were alot of strong players there, but it was good to see Kim Davenport playing again. The last time I saw him play was during the Camel Pro Tour. He seems to be playing really well. At one time, he was subject to beat just about anyone.

Hey man,
I just started reading all of the replies/arguments to your OP and wanted to let you know that I have no problem with your post, or its content. Some people on here are trying their best to show why being on an Internet forum is a bad idea...:)

All you wanted to say was that it was nice to see Kim Davenport shooting again...period.

Anyway, keep posting. Take care.

That was at the finals of the Sands Open tournament in Reno sometime around '90 when Kim was the player of the year. I think Earl had been his nemesis for quite sometime and he finally beat Earl in the finals of a big tournament. It was really funny to watch.
Isn't it always fun to watch Earl get beat?
