I ran a search for Klapp and saw there is a reasonable amount of buzz about the cues we build. With that being said, I figure this is as good of a time as any to break the news.
At the moment, Steve is focusing his time and energy on other ventures. He has moved to Iowa to pursue a career with John Deere and left the cue business to Sam and myself. The shop has been relocated to my home in Gilson, IL. I'm just a few miles away from Galesburg, where Klapp cues have been built for the last several years. Since my involvement with Klapp Cues (late 2010), Steve has had an over the road trucking job that consumed most of his time since I've known him. Sam has been his partner in cue building, pretty much since the beginning to the best of my knowledge. With Steve driving over the road and working so much Sam has completed the majority of the work on new cues and old since at least late last year. steve was still involved in the designs and wood choices and customer service the whole time. He just wasn't as involved in the building process as he liked to be.
I have been working in the shop since June of this year. I bring experience from working in the Esoteric cues shop that Rick Geschrey owns and operates in Palatine Il. I've talked to many of you on the phone or via pm so a lot of you understand the extent of my involvemet. I've been an integral part of the business since June of this year. I haven't been online and posting or bumping threads as much, because Ive been in the shop building Klapp cues alongside Sam.
Steve assured me he will be back at it when his time and money allows. He plans on setting up shop in Waterloo IA and it sounds like when he does, it will be a one man shop. Sam and I wish him luck with his new career and everything he has going on.
Needless to say, at the moment, Sam and I are very busy moving equipment and setting up shop, etc... We're undecided on the name we will go forward with. Some of the other cues we've built out of that shop bear the name "Bull Durham" which is what I considered going with at the time for my own designs etc... Perhaps we'll stick with that. I'm not sure. Either way, I can assure you all of this. Sam and I are still in business and whether you want a cue built to your specs or a refinish done on another, we will continue to fulfill our customer's needs at a competitive price and in a timely fashion.
I haven't been looking forward to posting this information and wanted to do so in the most tasteful way possible. Hopefully, I've done just that.
Sincerely,
Joe Durham
