What is this table??? Knock off Brunswick Anniversary???

Did anyone make a knock off of the Brunswick Anniversary table. This one has all the shapes & looks like one but the pocket miters look wooden instead of metal. I can possibly pick this table up for around $50 & was wondering if it would be worth it, I know it looks in pretty bad shape, but maybe a steal at the price??? Any help on what this table possibly is will be appreciated. Thanks!

Can't tell much from these photos, but if it has real slate, it's a steal for $50. By the way, why is it sitting on it's side like that? That can't be a good thing.

It might have been set up like that by one of those hack mechanics we have been warned about.:p

Yea thats not a good thing...:D I seen a 1 year old brunswick recently and the people just had to moved it out there house and took it apart like this. And I tell you they didnt think they would damage it like this but everything was cracked and the woodwork that holds the slate was all splintered I asked them if they dropped it and the man said he left it slide down the steps about two or three feet....:yikes: They didnt realize the would damage it but I told them for sure they did,, I wouldnt even give them a offer....<< ED

Not sure why it is on its side, I'm sure they were trying to get the legs off so I'm hoping the leaned it on its side VERY gently. I asked about the weight & his response was it would take 4-6 guys to lift it onto a trailer, so Im guessing its a real slate table. He's not pool table savy as he said that the "carpet stuff" was going to need to be replaced, & he doesnt know what size, & it may be made by Champion....anybody know anything about Champion pool tables. The corner miters & legs sure do resemble Anniversary to me, but I may be really wrong. HELP!!!

An Anniversary tends to have pocket molding at the side pockets.
And I doubt there is slate under that cloth.
I have never seen a top come off a table attached to slate......
...think about lifting 3 pieces of slate held together by rails....even
if they would stay together, there would be separated slate lines in
that picture.
I.m guessing wood or 'honeycomb' or some slate substitute under that
cloth......one piece

$50???...they gotta give ME $100 to take it off their hands

Yeah I noticed no pocket molding at the side pockets & also noticed on the end rails you can see all 3 dots, so there is no name plate on the rails & no point markers.....I still may at least go take a look at it & see whats under that felt...

On further thought..how can it be slate?
Slate attaches to the frame with screws...so how do you get it off the
frame without taking the rails and cloth off?

Ok, here is what I found out.

The table is called "The Golden 8 Ball" (or maybe that is the name of the pool hall in Arizona that had these tables & had plaques made & mounted into the corner irons) by Championship Billiard Corp. I actually found the patent on this table by R W Miller Etal. The reason for the patent was because of apron mounted ball guides. The patent was awarded on August 22, 1967. The bed is made of a composit material called Colorith manufactured by Johns Manville Corp.

The internet is an amazing thing

You don't want this table if they give it to you! For $50 you'll get exactly what you pay for - JUNK!
P.S. Colorith is another name for sheet rock. Been there, seen it.

I believe someone did make knock-offs of the Anniversary. IIRC I saw some in a bowling alley in Gardena, CA a couple of years ago.

From 1920 until the late 1960's there was a company that competed with Brunswick known as Saunier - Wilhem Company.

They made many late copies of tables using Brunswicks design including the Anniversary table, it could be one of their's it is hard to tell from your photo's.

Jimo, Those were good tables! Nothing like what you see here.

Actually, Brunswick now makes a knock-off of the Anniversary. I think it is called the Gibson. The design is very good but the framing underneath is pretty lightweight compared to the freaking railroad ties that were under an Anniversary. I have not played on one so perhaps someone can chime in who has.

I have a 1954 Anniversary and it plays so solid that it is unbelievable. You can still find these for around five grand or so, sometimes less if you are willing to do some fix-up work, and they are well worth the money. Frankly, I would rather have an old Anniversary than a new Gold Crown. But that is just personal preference.

Jerry I am totally jealous, I have wanted a Brunswick Anniversary or Centennial table from the moment I saw my very first one about 5 years ago.

The guy sent me some more pictures via text which helped me do more research on the table & it is pretty much junk. I deleted the text thread before I saved the pics to my phone so I cant post them :thud:

Thank you all for your comments & information
